Move over, Wisconsin -- the union battle is beginning in California
Sacramento Bee ^ | 6/10/12 | Jon Ortiz

Labor unions and business interests have been quietly raising millions of dollars and testing campaign messages for months, girding for a brawl over a November ballot measure that could fundamentally shift political power in Sacramento.

Now, on the heels of an election that saw unions handed a major defeat last week in Wisconsin, the opposing camps in California soon will launch a campaign battle likely to consume $50 million or more in political spending.

"Unions have just two channels of influence," said Daniel J.B. Mitchell of the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA, "collective bargaining and the political side, so this initiative is extremely important to them."

The measure, which has not yet received a proposition number, would ban both unions and corporations from contributing directly to candidates, although both sides could still freely spend money on their own independent efforts.

Another provision forbids both sides from using money gathered from payroll deductions for political purposes. It promises to gut the power of labor unions because they raise nearly all of their money for political and other purposes via payroll-deducted dues from their members' paychecks.

I found this statement in the article.

Gubernatorial recall efforts have a much lower success rate than ballot initiatives.

I thought Walker was the first U.S. governor ever to survive a recall?

I’m not sure California is a wise choice. The battle should move to a state we know we can win so we can build momentum.

They need to ban forced duespaying, otherwise know as “fair share”, not just regulate how the money is spent. But its a start.

Only two governors were recalled, so it is a very small sample. Walker is the one of three to survive.

This, I like. Advertise it to the idiot occupiers as an "anti-corporate money" ballot measure and they'll be on every street corner gathering "Mickey Mouse" signatures.

“The battle should move to a state we know we can win so we can build momentum.”

I don’t know if it would be a guaranteed win here in WA, but I’d sure like to see it tried.

Although this Proposition itself would drive a stake in the Unions heart if passed, another benefit is it will force Organized Labor to spend Millions to oppose it that would otherwise be going to Obama and Dem. candidates.

Three governors have been recalled, one was in the 1920’s but I forgot the name. He lost.

They dropped the recall effort against Rick Snyder the day after the Wisconsin fail. Probably a smart strategic move. If they lost two recall attempts in a row it would have been a demoralizing event.

In 1921 Gov. Lynn Frazier of North Dakota was recalled.

Careful, friends. This may be a leveling technique in play. We won, and big, in Wisconsin. California is larger and more liberal. It's tempting bait to achieve the same success in California. But, I think, it is just that ... bait. With far less chance of success, a failure in California would overshadow the success in Wisconsin. I suspect the liberals in the Pelosi state are permitting the discussion to take place just so it may be publicly quashed. This would have the effect of undermining the advancements made in Wisconsin on a national scale. Far better, I think, to let that battle stew a bit (sorry California FRiends) and focus on more attainable targets.

You can’t stop an idea who’s time has come. The unions have had a direct line to the public treasury for far too long!
Witness the votes in San Diego and San Jose, The American Tax Payer is done supporting these communist organization dressed up in blue collar workingman’s cloths. Public sector unions should be abolished and recognized for what they are, plunder of the Tax Payer!

Enough of this horse hockey!

There’s only one problem with an effort like this (well two - if you count that it is taking place in California) and that is there is no “Scott Walker” to lead it.

I think a similiar proposition was on the California ballot in 2006. It was defeated by the unions. I wish I had a job selling air time on local TV and radio. The unions will spend tons of money on misleading advertising.

We’ve come a long way in Michigan despite a lot of spineless RINOs. If the tea party, Sarah Palin, etc were to show up and start speaking it would rally the people and put a little steel in those jello spines in Lansing.

We’ve even got a conservative union group supporting right to work laws and opposing card check. Their leader (Terry Bowman) testified against union political fundraising on capitol hill a few months back.

I’m not suggesting ignoring other states, only that we should build a head of steam.

I agree it’s most likely a leveling technique. Public unions are so embedded in corrupt California - Sacramento is overrun with tax-paid bureaucrats who strategize 24/7 on retaining/increasing their own funding but will unite to keep their useful, purple-shirted public union member proles in “Victim” status mode to rage & rail against the freedoms Wisconsin just chose.

Praying for my home state & this whole nation,
