Is The Romney Campaign Getting In David Axelrod's Head?
BuzzFeed ^ | 6/11/2012 | Zeke Miller

Posted on 06/12/2012 12:41:02 AM PDT by tellw

Obama adviser David Axelrod offered some clear signs that Mitt Romney’s attacks on him are taking their toll, twice referring to reaction he’s received from Romney operatives in Boston in a 75 minute discussion at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan Monday night.

Axelrod, the most visible face on the calm, cool, and collected Obama campaign had been rattled at a press conference two weeks ago on the steps of the Massachusetts State Capitol blocks from Romney headquarters when he faced bubbles and chants of “Solyndra.”

President Barack Obama’s senior adviser and political guru responded to moderator John Heilemann’s poll of the room that all but four people in attendance voted for Obama in 2008 by saying: “We have a very nice room here…not like those folks up in Boston.”

Later, joking about hypothetical Romney trackers in the audience recording his every word, Axelrod added, “At least they’re letting me speak.”

Axelrod’s unprompted asides suggested Romney’s in-person and social media guerilla campaign is taking hold — at least in the cubic foot of space above Axelrod’s shoulders.

Beyond the from the now-infamous press conference, the Romney campaign has deployed campaign staffers to infiltrate Obama campaign events to tweet about empty seats and spin the president’s comments while he’s still in the room. On Twitter, Romney operatives swarm over nearly every Axelrod television appearance to point out flaws and needle him over inconsistencies.

Romney aides frequently brag when Axelrod grows frustrated with their efforts. “We’re in his head,” one staffer said triumphantly after the Massachusetts press conference.

It remains to be seen whether the Twitter wars or surrogate fights will have any impact beyond the tweet-obsessed Acela corridor.

But the Romney effort is part of a larger effort to energize the base by showing the campaign has fight — something conservatives doubted McCain had four years ago. Also, Boston’s theory goes, if they can get in Axelrod’s head, the vaunted Chicago operation might just slip-up.

McCain in 2008 had no problem campaigning against Republicans in the primary... he just didn’t want to campaign against the dems in the general.

Not to mention, McCain was feebleminded. I’ll never forget the spectacle of him “suspending his campaign” and “rushing back to Washington”, as if the only hope for the nation’s financial system was from the old S&L Fraudster. And then he ended up agreeing with everything Bush did anyway! Just like he wasn’t there!

What a feeble-minded old fool.

I will say once again what I've consistently said, which is that America would have been MUCH better off if that little NVA runt who fired that missile at McStain in '67 had been a better shot.

Piss off... anyone hoping that an enemy of this country had killed a US Citizen and Soldier in the line of duty is no better than the enemies fellow travelers. No matter who that soldier was, he was a member of the US Armed forces fighting for us. You might as well be a 'fellow traveler' to that NVA runt.

Romney’s father was familiar with Alinsky and his methods. The ol “it takes one to know one” may be appropriate here. Nothing Axelrod does is new or unfamiliar to Romney, they know the “rules” of Axelrod’s chess game and are going to out play him move by move.

My neighbors are non political people, never voted. Parent and three kids and spouses have now registered to vote against the Won. Hope he motivaates more to get involved /s

Sure wish Newt or Herman was his pick for VP. That could only happen if Mittens got stronger, they would both outshine him.

Axelrod & Obama are no strangers to the shout-down treatment, except that this is the first time they’ve been on the receiving end of it.

I am still reading “the Amateur”. It’s opened my eyes even more on what a dud we have as Commander in Chief. We CAN NOT afford to make this mistake AGAIN. We can not vote based on skin color alone. BHO is unequipped, incompetent and insecure. Go get the book!

I'm about a third of the way through "The Amateur". A highly recommended source book for the ABO crowd and that means most Freepers. Even the "I'll never vote for Romney" types might think twice about their position after reading this book.

Seems they can dish it out but can take very little.

Good. Keep pouring it on ‘em.

When you’re on offense, they’re on defense, and YOU’RE DETERMINING THE AGENDA.

Got it RNC?

Sheesh.

Mitt is running a good campaign so far to be honest. He still has to earn my vote though.

I saw a clip of an old Romney/Kennedy senate debate in MA and Romney was definitely not a wallflower and was in Teddy's face big time. Meanwhile, McCain remains the ‘Exhibit A’ example of what NOT to do.

Romney also has money. He can run with Obama till November. That was something McCain couldn’t and wouldn’t do.

I am going to get thebook. along with two or three others.

But I will never believe that Obama is ignorant, or a bumbling idiot.

He is a very effecive and dangerous enemy to all we hold dear and he is going about, with a will, using his rigid marxist ideology to dismantle this Republic beforeour eyes, building on the progress that others like him have made over the last 40-50 years.

He absolutely needs to go...the sooner the better.

IMHO, McCain would have gotten more money (although his own personal wealth would not have been what Romney has) had he fought hard against the leftists instead of trying to make nice with them.

Can you imagine what would happen to Axelrod if he got the Palin treatment?

So far, he’s only recieved 10% of that, and he’s already getting shook? I hope Romney begins to really pour on the coal.

Something a lot of people don’t know and many don’t remember: The Mormon’s are big on “Genealogy”. The Mormon Church may have already investigated and know where Obama was born and have documented proof. If so, they will release it, via a third party, in September or October. Stay tuned!!! This thing is just getting warmed up.
