Romney: Obama immigration move makes long term fix harder
cnn ^ | 6-15-12 | Romney

Posted on 06/15/2012 2:02:30 PM PDT by Mozilla

"I believe the status of young people who come here through no fault of their own is an important matter to be considered, and should be solved on a long term basis so they know what their future would be in this country," Romney said after a campaign stop in Milford, New Hampshire.

"I would like to seek legislation that deals with this issue and I happen to agree with Marco Rubio as he looked at, considered this issue, he said that this is an important matter that we have to find a long term solution," Romney said.

"I think the action that the president took today makes it more difficult to reach that long term solution because an executive order is, of course, a short term matter and can be reversed by subsequent presidents," Romney said.

In December, Romney said he would veto the DREAM Act if he were president, saying instead he would support a path to residency – not citizenship – for those who served in the military, but not other DREAM Act proposals.

Later, Romney gave a more detailed version of his stance, tell supporters at a fund-raiser in Florida Republicans needed to offer their own version of the DREAM Act.

"We're going to be able to get Hispanic voters," Mr. Romney said at the private event, which was overheard by a reporter for the Wall Street Journal. "We're going to overcome the issue of immigration."

“I don’t see any other answer Romney can give ?”

Well, I sure do.

My kid has been trying to get a job the past two years since graduating from high school. He is attending a community college, so it isn’t like he is a slacker, but our area of the country has an unemployment rate around 27%. I know very few young people who can find work.

U.S. citizens must come first before illegal aliens. I don’t give a damn if they came here as children: deport them.

President Eisenhower rounded up illegal and deported them. So can we.

america-rules: I don't see any other answer Romney can give ?

It's a problem.

He says there ought to be legislation crafted to deal with it.

Obama makes a dictatorial decree.

One is constitutional, one is a dictatorial decree.

Thus, this thread will blow up into "Romney is identical to Obama" because Romney said he agreed with someone who was once a darling of TEA party conservatism.

"If I’m president, we’ll do our very best to have that kind of long-term solution that provides certainty and clarity for the people who come into this country through no fault of their own by virtue of an act of their parents." - Mitt Romney

VERY important part of his statement. You see the terminology & the tone he used? He agrees with the fundamentals of the Nightmare Act. That is identical to the rhetoric Obama uses. The primaries are over, conservatives. We are officially under the bus.

As for the issue at large. Romney could have simply mentioned it was the irresponsibility of the parents that the children now suffer from their actions. Children who have parents that commit crimes, and are put away in jail suffer. This is no different, once people understand that their family will suffer from their stupid decisions, perhaps that will lead to a better understanding of the problem.

“We’re going to be able to get CONSERVATIVE voters,” Mr. Romney said.

There, fixed it. (I wish)

What’s with you guys and Rubio? I read what he said and basically it’s “I agree with the ends but don’t support the means of what President Obama did who is making it very difficult for us working on a plan “ - Rubio isn’t the man that people think he is and never was. He has been tied to the Bushes, the Establishment and Romney for years and his legislations of late has many elements that many tea party voters would oppose

..... Wouldn't it be more logical for any person born in this country to a person of illegal status to be considered to be under the care of the natural born parents and subject to all current immigration law, including deportation.

Then upon their 21st (or 18th) birthday make a binding legal final choice by affidavit of which country they choose to be a citizen of..... Relinquishing all claims to their foreign citizenship, or if chosen.... relinquish their claim to American citizen status.

Romney is all over the place.

That's Romney! The good news is Romney has stood on the right side of all the issues we care about. The bad news is that he stood on the side of our opposition on all of those very same issues. Welcome to Romneyville!

I’ll agree with some of that. Romney is good at being sly. But people are left now wondering what he would do as a president. He probably did throw Obama off guard by saying that Romney favors some form of reform. But it also threw the base off guard because this is not what people had wanted.
Hee shouldn’t been so quick to side with Rubio. Maybe he thinks if a so-called “tea party” leader supports “reform” then it is ok for him to support it and he is wrong.

It takes less than 700,000 to make a congressional district.
