"I believe the status of young people who come here through no fault of their own is an important matter to be considered, and should be solved on a long term basis so they know what their future would be in this country," Romney said after a campaign stop in Milford, New Hampshire.
"I would like to seek legislation that deals with this issue and I happen to agree with Marco Rubio as he looked at, considered this issue, he said that this is an important matter that we have to find a long term solution," Romney said.
"I think the action that the president took today makes it more difficult to reach that long term solution because an executive order is, of course, a short term matter and can be reversed by subsequent presidents," Romney said.
In December, Romney said he would veto the DREAM Act if he were president, saying instead he would support a path to residency – not citizenship – for those who served in the military, but not other DREAM Act proposals.
Later, Romney gave a more detailed version of his stance, tell supporters at a fund-raiser in Florida Republicans needed to offer their own version of the DREAM Act.
"We're going to be able to get Hispanic voters," Mr. Romney said at the private event, which was overheard by a reporter for the Wall Street Journal. "We're going to overcome the issue of immigration."

Despite protestations to the contrary as to what Rubio actually said or meant, the media says he agreed with Obama. And now Mitt says I agree with Rubio (without explaining what he means or how he may disagree with The One (if he does). Big win for Bambi. Totally snookered our troops (again).

That's funny. You blame the media for portraying Rubio wrong, but you blame Romney based on how he's being reported in the media.
Well done, Barack Obama - he set a bear trap and Romney stepped right in. Correct response is a laser focus on an unconstitutional act by the president and enforcement of immigration laws currently on the books - anything less drops his (Romney) poll numbers to a manageable number for Obama et al.

What every voter needs is an unemployed young person who is struggling to find any job..and suddenly find that they are adding foreigners to the list of his legitimate competition.
I already emailed Romney..no money for you..no Rubio for me..no amnesty ever.
Right now we have tons of illegals..young ones who graduated or are in HS..driving without license and insurance..filing fraudulent tax returns..working without a permit...and he want s to make these criminals legit?

The sad reality is that, on this issue, we had no primary candidates (with a chance to win) who took a solid stand against illegal aliens and amnesty in its various forms. Romney took the toughest stand of all, but it seems none are immune to the irresistible desire to pander for Latino votes.
Romney will damage his campaign at this early stage if he begins to back away from his campaign stances and resorts to pandering and vote buying, a game at which Republicans have no prayer against the Dims.

It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens… Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.

Rubio and Mitt have to watch how they approach media / what they say (no room for misinterpretations and editing, and preferably buy their own ads to say it.
Romney is all over the place. It seems he fooled a few people like Governor Jan Brewer who endorsed Romney into thinking he was for legislation like SB1070 and enforcing immigration laws. He also just ruined his chances to unite the party by opposing Obama 100% and denouncing his measures.
Yes he is against them but only on the grounds of the executive order and that it is not a long term bi-partisan deal that is hammered out with both sides caving in and passing it in congress. As opposed to him being flat out against this measure.
Instead Rino Romney is agreeing with Marco Rubio’s Dream Act. And would not if he would reverse Obama’s order. So instead of him rallying the GOP ‘troops’ he has just demoralized them and worries about him passing his own amnesty plan have risen. Should he win.
I disagree completely. While I don’t share the position of Rubio or Romney, this is not what Obama had hoped for in a response. It was actually very shrewd on Romney’s part. First, this is one day where Romney’s reponse will be major headlines. He did not go bombastic and flame throw, which was obama’s intent. Instead he had a measured response, agreed with an Hispanic leader of a major state on sure to be expert on the issue (and elevating a key Senator), and instead focused on the logical side that this has not been the best way to deal with the issue...in fact complicating the issue long term.
There are good solutions to the illegals issue other than mass deportation, and Romney is positioned to find it, if he so chooses.
