Britain stops Russian ship carrying attack helicopters for Syria

A Russian ship believed to be carrying helicopters and missiles for Syria has been effectively stopped in its tracks off the coast of Scotland after its insurance was cancelled at the behest of the British government.

The British marine insurer Standard Club said it had withdrawn cover from all the ships owned by Femco, a Russian cargo line, including the MV Alaed.

"We were made aware of the allegations that the Alaed was carrying munitions destined for Syria," the company said in a statement. "We have already informed the ship owner that their insurance cover ceased automatically in view of the nature of the voyage."

British security officials confirmed they had told Standard Club that providing insurance to the shipment was likely to be a breach of European Union sanctions against the Syrian regime.

They said they were continuing to monitor the ship, which has been the subject of a fierce international row since US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week revealed it was adding to the arsenal of weaponry available for Mr Assad to use against rebellious Syrian towns.

"We have various ways of keeping track of this ship and that is what we are doing," a source told The Daily Telegraph.

What an odd technicality. Is anyone else surprised they the Russians would ship their military cargo to Syria on a ship where this could even be possible?

I’m sure that bH0 will call up George Soros to personally provide insurance for the vessel so that his pal PutyPutin can deliver the cargo of rescue helicopters and lifesaving munitions.

Unh-oh. The protesters will be out in force tonight.

How dare the Western powers put any limits on the right of Bashar al-Assad to choke down the local version of Arab spring. After all, everybody knows that the Muslim Brotherhood, a purely secular organization, has only the interests of the downtrodden majority at heart, and this is the avenue to the rise of democracy in the Middle East.

Of course, unseen below the surface, the death match between the Sunnis and the Shi’ites is going on full force, and any dispassionate opinion about the situation would be to let them muscle each other around until neither side has sufficient strength to force its will upon the other. Apparently Middle Eastern power struggles are largely predicated on neither side actually winning, but only continue to cull out the less effective and adaptable fighters on each side.

Of course, a lot of women and children end up as collateral damage, but what you want the Western powers to do? Bomb them from 30,000 feet like they did in Kosovo and Bosnia?

All it will take is one captain getting his knickers in a wad at the other and we'll be in the middle of WWIII.

With Obama running the show, it not only will hit the fan it shorted out the motor, and cause an electrical fire.
