Marco Rubio says he would come to the U.S. illegally if he had to
ABC News ^ | June 19, 2012 | Chris Moody

Hypothetically, if Marco Rubio were not an American citizen and could not provide food for his family, he says he would cross the border illegally to come to the United States.

While discussing immigration policy in his new memoir, An American Son, Rubio called for "common decency" in dealing with undocumented immigrants and said that if put in a similar position as those who are fleeing destitution, he would break the law, too.

"Many people who come here illegally are doing exactly what we would do if we lived in a country where we couldn't feed our families," Rubio writes in his book, which went on sale Tuesday. "If my kids went to sleep hungry every night and my country didn't give me an opportunity to feed them, there isn't a law, no matter how restrictive, that would prevent me from coming here."

I just have to say something to the one or two in our midst who seem to think that the only reason anyone could possibly object to illegal immigration is because of racism. Our objection to illegal immigration has nothing to do with race, but instead has everything to do with respect for the rule of law and with culture (in a political sense).

I think I'm pretty safe in assuming that if France were located on our southern border instead of Mexico, all of the same people currently opposed to illegal immigration from Mexico would be just as incensed at illegal immigration, were it to occur, from our hypothetical French neighbors. Why? Because the French are notorious socialists. They have no heritage nor understanding of anything resembling the American form of self-government. To allow unlimited numbers of them to cross the border would eventually irreparably harm this country. The larger the percentage of the population they became, the more politicians would cater to their desires, regardless of whether their desires were in any way aligned with our heritage or our constitution. Once their numbers reached critical political mass, America would begin to disintegrate, to be replaced inevitably by something more resembling the French system of government they were more familiar with.

If you believe in American exceptionalism, as I certainly do, you cannot in any way favor the indiscriminate importation of people from foreign cultures UNLESS they first pass through a process to thoroughly vet them for incompatible political allegiance, disease, etc. WE must be the ones to decide who we bestow the PRIVILEGE of American citizenship upon. WE, as a sovereign nation, have the right to deny access to our country to anyone for any reason. It's our country.

America is exceptional (or at least has been) because the unique factors that make it what it is don't exist in the rest of the world. Also, as our system places so much trust for governing in the hands of the People, and as our Founders made clear it cannot function without the People having the right moral foundation and political philosophy, to think that we can simply insert random people from random cultures into our system and still have it function as it has is foolish.

We must have the right mix of citizens for America to be America. It's that simple. And race has nothing to do with it.

Rubio says he would come to the U.S. illegally if he had to

We can include Rubio are part of some of the most obnoxious people on the planet.

Like the Mexicans, instead of building their own country, they totally disrespect our rules, laws and borders and then choke off our hospitals, welfare, social services, jails, schools, jobs etc, while forcing American tax payers pay the bill.

Rubio like all the other liars and criminals in D.C., should immediately resign in utter disgrace.

Hypothetically, I'd be doing the same thing.

If I lived in some hell hole of a country...and I knew I could get over the border and work for much better wages..so my family and I could prosper. I'd do it.

Especially coming to the U.S. with all the FREEBIES our Gobment thinks they can just give away.

The Catechism says this:

Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.

And those laws include laws determining whether the person can be there in the first place.

He has certainly sinned, though his behavior upon ameliorating the immediate distress in which his family found itself would seem to determine the extent of that sin.

Of course, upon asking forgiveness for that sin, he would be commanded to sin no more.

It's still a sin.

As a Catholic, I agree with and believe that is what Church doctrine says, as well.

Check out any border state. You do NOT see illegals or their numerous offspring speaking english or flying our flag or speaking reverently about this nation.

I wasn't trying to defend illegal immigration, I was shedding some light on Marco Rubio's comments. He was taking slings and arrows for saying what I would do as well. There are those who are "born Americans, just in the wrong place." Unfortunately, are immigration policies do not invite them here.

I just don't think Rubio deserves the slings and arrows for his comments.

How many illegals do we have here now?

This situation must be addressed. We must decide what to do about them.

I am not in favor of any discussion of that until we seriously address and solve the problem of securing the border.

Hardly any of the posters here seem concerned with that at all... just into bashing Rubio.

What other laws would he break, if he “had to”?

I wonder if Rubio would consider offering “amnesty” to an otherwise law-abiding citizen who declined to pay federal income taxes, simply because that citizen needed the tax money to feed his/her family??

Excuse me, but I see no grounds for removing Rubio from his post as Senator from Florida.

I guess his citizenship could be debated but I’m not into that... it’s debatable.

Did anybody here not already know that Rubio has been working for a long time on a version of a Dream Act?

Did you people only realize today that this was on his agenda.

Is this over-reaction Tuesday or what?

” This nation would be swamped in short order if we allowed everyone who wanted to come, to come here at will. For that reason, and because we need to weed out undesirables, we have immigration and naturalization laws.”

Expect a big increase in illegal immigration now..

RE :”Marco Rubio says he would come to the U.S. illegally if he had to

If I were shipwrecked on an island with my 5 year old child and found one other human and he had complete control of the food supply and was going to let us starve I would probably use violence to keep that from happening if I had to.

If I had worked day and night to grow and harvest food and watched a group of nearby grasshoppers played in the sun all summer and Fall while I slaved away I would not be generous with that food even after winter came and they started whining and telling me I was selfish for not 'sharing it' with them.

If I came across the border illegally with my children and couldnt read or write and had no idea of history or economics or science and I had a choice between working 12 hours a day for $5 an hour or getting twice that for doing nothing from the generous Obama I probably would go for the jackpot (Obama told me in Spanish that they will just raise rich guy SJBs taxes and he has plenty he doesnt need LOL)

IF I..... who cares Rubio?? Jerk!

You dont see the Chinese talking stupid like this.

Are you kidding?

They will horsewhip you in public.

You fail to pay taxes to subsidizes millions of these disrespectful criminal Mexicans, and your assets will be seized, you'll be jailed, they'll sell your used furniture, garnish your wages if ya still have a job, the government discredit you in the newspapers and media, and reposes your vehicles.

How many illegals do we have here now? This situation must be addressed. We must decide what to do about them.

It's not going to be addressed by government. Is is not clear your government has no intention of securing our lawless borders? They want a borderless, new world order. Easier to control.

Divide the united. Eliminate independence. Destroy sovereignty.

Divide the united.

BTW, the government has allowed in probably 25 million illegals...Throw in Texas, which is producing probably 8,000 anchor babies alone every single month.

This has been discussed and addressed by the American people 196,127,401 times.

After 25 years of Americans voting, begging, protesting, screaming, petitioning, volunteering for relief of this violent government sponsored gang rape of our country, as hundreds of thousands of innocent Americans have been ran over by illegal drunks, killed, robbed, raped, murdered, shot, knifed, defrauded and burglarize......

As we sit for the millionth time, politely discussing multiple millions of disrespectful Mexicans entering our country illegally, as they literally choke off our schools, hospitals, jails, classrooms, social services, jobs, you name it!

Solutions?

Common sense solutions have been discussed and addressed 304,895,945 times.

BTW, for the Pollyannas out there, it probably has never occurred to them, the corrupt government has no intention of securing our lawless violent borders. It's why this violent lawlessness has been going on so many damn years, and continues on a daily basis.

What needs to occur, is the entire U.S. Government needs to be replaced, and those currently in it need to immediately resign or be prosecuted.

Until then, the intentional destruction of America, and the American middle class will continue unabated.

our dispersal of freebies have made illegal immigration a much more attractive option than it ever should have been - and not only to those fleeing for a better life, but for opportunistice predators and parasites as well.
