Immigrant Debate Shifting Under GOP’s Feet Administration’s decision gets muted reaction

By Seth McLaughlin and Ralph Z. Hallow June 18, 2012

JANESVILLE, Wis. — Randy Braden doesn’t have a problem with President Obama’s decision to effectively stop trying to deport many children of illegal immigrants, but he does have a problem with the way he went about it.

The 60-year-old retired agriculture worker from nearby Milton is one of a number of people who turned out Monday for Mitt Romney’s “Every Town Counts” bus trip through small towns and cities that expressed a willingness to cut this group of illegal immigrants some slack — a sharp departure from the past when presidential candidates were given little wiggle room on the issue.

“It probably is the right thing to do; however, like a lot of things, it is a short-term fix,” Mr. Braden said, alluding to Mr. Obama’s announcement Friday that the Department of Justice would stop deporting some young adults who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. “If he was really serious about illegal immigration and reform, he should have been doing that the first two years in office” when Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate.

The muted reaction on the ground — and Mr. Romney’s carefully modulated response over the weekend to Mr. Obama’s surprise order — could signal an unexpected shift in what has been one of the country’s thorniest political issues, a shift that comes as the ranks of illegal immigrants in the country have stalled for the first time in years.

While Mr. Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, faced some uncomfortable moments on CBS‘ “Face the Nation” as he declined to take a firm stand on Mr. Obama’s order, ....

Do you think they have figured out yet that their days are numbered regardless if Mittsy wins?
***Their days are not numbered because we conservatives are too cowardly to take them on. We see their type all across Free Republic, let alone in Republican circles.

If we had any gonads we’d have set up an idealogy litmus matrix here on FR that I proposed more than 4 years ago. But it aint gonna happen, so the CINOs days are not numbered, even here on FR.

“Their days are not numbered because we conservatives are too cowardly to take them on.”

Bullseye. I concur. The way things are is the way things stay. We will NOT resist or rebel. We comply and cooperate and shall get exactly what we deserve for another four to eight years.

RNC rigs the primary. The state committees herd the delegates in compliance with the RNC and wallah.

There is not much left to save when the people are sheep.

“1) Juan Garcia did not break the law entering the USA because he was not of age and Maria Gomez did because of her age. That makes Juan an alien without status and Maria an illegal alien. Obama targeted the former group on purpose.”

It is against the law for foreign nationals to be in this country without proper documentation. The law does not make any differeniation as to how and when the Foreign national entered the country. BHO’s order did not change this law only who is to be prosicuted. Both Jaun and Maria are breaking the law. Is this equal protection under the law?

The US military does allow non citizen legal residents to join the military not undocumented aliens. Those illegals who have joined would have to have purgured themselves at a minimum. If found out they are discharged under less than honorable conditions

The few true conservatives in Congress (both houses) need help in holding back the reckless spending of the last 50 years.

Yep, both of them.

If they are here for work, they are taking jobs from Americans. If they are not working, they are taking resources for already strained social services and charities needed by Americans. Either way, they all need to go.

I am a guy who has built houses as an owner-builder in the SF Bay Area, I am not so sure this is true.

I tried long and hard to find real Americans who would work in construction. College students would tire out in half a day working next to me while I was in my 40s. I never saw a welfare receipent who wanted to work at all. But, the average hispanic day laborer from the Home Depot parking lot could work rings around any American I could afford.

And at the end of the day the Americans would drop my tools on the ground where they stood and go home. The day laborers would take them to the tool shed and carefully lock them up--they knew that tomorrows work depended on those tools being there.

Many of the illegals are doing work Americans won't do, or will do so expensively they have priced themselves out of the market. Sometimes the Amereicans just have a poor attitude.

“Where is the empathy for the children of law abiding Americans and legal immigrants who are suffering the worst economy since the Great Depression through no fault of their own?”

I wish all of our ‘conservative’ talk radio folks would hammer away with this question daily. It need not be answered, for to ask it will get people to realize on their own what really at stake here (our culture too).

I call bull shiite.

I’m in the SF Bay Area as well. Freepmail me your address and I’ll check out the conditions you’re offering in your workplace, as well as how “long and hard” you tried to find real Americans. If you’re so proud of what you offer, it shouldn’t prove to be a bother.

What you call “pricing themselves out of the market” is a market that has been convoluted by the presence of illegal immigrants. Paying someone $5/hour because they’re desperate is incredibly exploitative.

I know, I know, I’ll get nuthin’ but crickets from you, because can’t defend this moral position. Guys like you make my blood boil, like Graybeard says.

RNC rigs the primary.

***Here’s how I think primaries should be organized:

My suggestion is basically to hold the first primary in the state that has the highest percentage of GOP votes in the last election, the 2nd primary in the 2nd highest, and so on. 2 primaries a week for 25 weeks, with the last primaries being the suckup-to-the-democrats. And the democrats could easily have their primary schedule the same way, if they wanted.

This way, if a state is 60% republican, there is still incentive for them to get out the vote for 61% republican so they can bump up their state in the primary schedule.

Also: Rotate all the states (even the big ones) through an early schedule so that everyone gets access at some point to the front line.

OR

Let each state bid when they want their primary to take place. The earlier the primary, the fewer the delegates they control according to some logarithmic or steep curve formula.

Second thing is the order of the primaries should be determined by the percentage of republicans in the last vote. The higher the %pubbie, the sooner the state appears on the primary schedule, with a mix of big & little states and our staunchest republican states get to go FIRST. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1965735/posts?page=862#862

Now that was a job involved deeply in the public health sector. My daughter in law kills mosquitos for example ~ in mass ~ HUGE ~ MONSTROUS quantities. Without her everybody around here would have malaria. Without those kegs all the folks with problems treatable (in that day) through ‘self medication’ would have been at lost ends.

"I could afford" ~ there's your problem.

Take those illegals away and let the market seek it's American level and you'd still be building houses.

Hope you've noticed but you guys used those illegals to overbuild by 15 years. We can't sell 'em for you. That's why you are out of business.

So far we’ve found that my great grandfather and his sister set sail from Antwerp on the SS Mount Temple under the name Grabski with Buchovina listed as their point of origin. They were traveling with a man claiming to be their father at some points in the journey and claiming to be an uncle at other points.

They spent a few years in St Catherines Ontario under the name Grabstein. When they arrived at the port of Detroit the name had changed to Hartmann. The man claiming to be the father signed custody over to a family from Wisconsin who had a French name (which I can’t recall right now) but my grandfather called them “The Swedes”. The man acting as their father appears to have returned to Europe.

My Great Granddad and his sister lived with the swedes till my granddad was a young adult when he returned to Detroit during prohibition. In Detroit he met my great grandmother who was there hiding with he mother and sister because their father was on some kind of family killing spree (He died in a mental hospital)

They got married in Detroit then returned to Wisconsin where my grandfather learned tool and die making and My grandfather and his sister were both born in Beloit Wisconsin. The family moved to Jackson Michigan in about 1940 where my great grandfather worked as a tool and die maker till retirement.

The purple gang were in health and human services apparently. Mostly they did population control and wealth redistribution. They also kept Al Capone at bay.
