WashTimes: Sen. Grassley: Assertion of Executive Privilege Raises ‘Monumental Questions’

Bryan Preston

..... “The assertion of executive privilege raises monumental questions,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee who first began the Fast and Furious investigation.

“How can the president assert executive privilege if there was no White House involvement? How can the president exert executive privilege over documents he’s supposedly never seen? Is something very big being hidden to go to this extreme? The contempt citation is an important procedural mechanism in our system of checks and balances,” he said. ..........

The infirmative-action president is confident that because Republican leaders in the House and Senate are so fearful of being called “racists” if they dare challenge the actions of the first fractionally-negro president, they won’t challenge him over this most recent lawlessness. Sorry to say I think his confidence is well-founded based on what I’ve seen of the how the Republican leaders respond to his Constitutional challenges to the legislative branch. (Who says Obama’s thug politics don’t work?!)

That “DUmmy” is right. I wonder if that post will last long before it’s deleted and the poster banned! LOL!

Sadly, we’ve got some “freepers” here that could learn from that poster. I’m amazed that there are those here that think this is nothing and that nothing will come of it.

Yes, reminds me of just how "Booby" Hatch was played by Janet Reno - delay, deflect, deny.

Or Klinton's "protective rights" executive priviledge regarding the Secret Service and their knowledge of Monica_L.

The GOP has no skill here - their MO is hot air, motions, ... looking like fools with little or no result.

Well, I disagree. At a minimum, Holder is gone and Obama finds himself in a real full blown flap!

I truly believe Holder and Obama have backed themselves into a corner that even the main stream media can get them out of now.

Well, here's the problem. This buys several months while the E.P. claim goes all the way to SCOTUS (on the taxpayer's dime, mind you) and for SCOTUS to say E.P. is not covered, or that E.P. applies because Obama was involved - which means Obama lied about not knowing.

Either way, Obama would basically moon Congress by subsequently refusing to cooperate further, knowing that he might get impeached but not removed because that takes Dem votes in the Senate, a lesson from the Clinton years.

Only way Obama gets out of this before such a showdown is for him to get voted out in November. That is why Obama is being so brazen here. Call it the Clinton precedent.

Since it is an international offense, prosecute these Marxist gungrabbers even AFTER then are run out of office.

2 trial for a baseball pitcher over steroid use (never a trial over police using steroids) and "lying to Congress".

This president deserves a life sentence in the slammer for his evil deeds. People are dead as a result of his stunt and they attempted to cover up knowledge and involvement.

Looks to me like Grassley and Issa are playing Obama and Holder like fiddles. They’re cornered now, like the rats they are.

Well said, and like you posted up thread, they're sweating bullets.

Holder thought he could make this go away for both he and Obama but Issa wouldn't let go. Now Obama has basically admitted he knew about this all along and lied about it. Issa has done a great job and I don't think he's going to give up now.

Obama will just quietly be put out to pasture, IMO. Because you know he's been using federal agencies to collect enough info on the rest of the power structure to assure mutual destruction if they take any action against him.

That's the DC way.

Perhaps.

But to be clear, however, by what metric(s) and within what timeframe will your prediction(s) occur?

Is this, perchance, an "October Surprise" where the GOP, yet again, exits stage ... somewhere?

But to be clear

What's clear is your pessimism. I don't share it.

“This whole investigation by the Republicans is a joke. “

Not a joke; look where it has brought us. You go after an AG and President very carefully for many reasons.

Recall the Barrett Report and what happened there? Grassley was "sound and fury" then - resulting in nothing.

Recall a certain Senate vote after Bubba's impeachment?

So, yes, skeptical - very skeptical here.

And, your metric(s) and timeframes as posited are?
