House Panel Votes To Hold Holder in Contempt

WASHINGTON—A House committee voted to sanction Attorney General Eric Holder with contempt of Congress, escalating a standoff between Republicans and the Obama administration over documents about a botched gun-trafficking operation.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, in a party-line vote, approved the measure by the panel's chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa (R., Calif.), after a nearly six-hour hearing that largely devolved into partisan bickering. House Republican leaders immediately said they would bring the contempt measure to the House floor next week.

Just before the committee began its meeting Wednesday morning, the White House said President Barack Obama had asserted executive privilege over Justice Department documents sought by congressional Republicans.

The White House move added a legal complication to an increasingly partisan fight. A GOP congressional committee is using a "Fire Eric Holder" website to seek donations. The White House used the contempt vote to assert that Republicans were focusing on partisan fights instead of focusing on jobs and the economy.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz said Mr. Obama's reasoning was similar to that of former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Mr. Schultz said the other presidents "protected the same category of documents we're protecting today," meaning after-the-fact internal materials

“Can’t wait for this guy and BHO in Prison.”

You know if these guys were white nothing would happen.

Next frickin’ week? Spineless RINO stalling tactic.

That's to give them enough time to shred evidence and wipe hard drives.

Weasels protecting weasels. Nothing new here.

“On the contrary...I think that now that the headline is in the news the public should get educated about the issue as much as possible before the vote takes place.”

Your assessment is spot on. The propaganda press has been hiding this issue. It will take a while for citizens to get up to speed and read about this traitor infesting the whitehouse.

If they were white they'd be in Leavenworth already.

Whaddaya know, the Kos Kiddies now acknowledge that F&F existed! Up to know you wouldn't know it existed if you got all your news from sources like that.

Their arguments fall into one of two categories: vicious ad hominem attacks on Issa, and the inevitable "Bush's fault!" (i.e. they are incorrectly asserting that F&F was a Bush program).

Naturally the "racist" argument is probably not far behind.

They have had over a year and a half to destroy evidence so one more week would be superfluous. It can’t be done in this digital age anyway. Too many copies on too many servers.

Thank you, Newz J! I was pretty sure it was straight down the line for each side, but wasn’t sure. I was hoping that at least some of the Dems would show a half a brain.

You obviously don't understand how this regime works. They are so corrupt the mafia doesn't even compare.

Don’t feed the troll! Thanks for the rebuke. Some people can’t resist spewing the talking points. I don’t think they even understand the subject matter. BHO & Holder are going down big time. They may avoid Prison but they will be gone after Nov. 2012

” I’ve never seen a display by Democrats before that was as ignorant of the facts, stupid and nasty.”

That is because Democrats are no longer Demcrats, they are vicious dangerous and rabid anti-Americans, primarily consisting of rich brats who rebelled in the 60s. If they are a younger generation, they were raised by anti-Americans influenced by communism. Eventually, the snakes will die off. Sadly, they murder most of their offspring prior to birth so we can look forward to eventual extinction.
