House Panel Votes To Hold Holder in Contempt

WASHINGTON—A House committee voted to sanction Attorney General Eric Holder with contempt of Congress, escalating a standoff between Republicans and the Obama administration over documents about a botched gun-trafficking operation.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, in a party-line vote, approved the measure by the panel's chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa (R., Calif.), after a nearly six-hour hearing that largely devolved into partisan bickering. House Republican leaders immediately said they would bring the contempt measure to the House floor next week.

Just before the committee began its meeting Wednesday morning, the White House said President Barack Obama had asserted executive privilege over Justice Department documents sought by congressional Republicans.

The White House move added a legal complication to an increasingly partisan fight. A GOP congressional committee is using a "Fire Eric Holder" website to seek donations. The White House used the contempt vote to assert that Republicans were focusing on partisan fights instead of focusing on jobs and the economy.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz said Mr. Obama's reasoning was similar to that of former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Mr. Schultz said the other presidents "protected the same category of documents we're protecting today," meaning after-the-fact internal materials

The WH move is a wrinkle, but holder was already in contempt of congress before hussein kardashian decided to admit he was part of the whole thing.

Gungate — just wait.

Can’t wait for this guy and BHO in Prison. I do think this is playing out rather nicely despite the frustration with the process. Thanks Red Steel

How much you wanna bet that Jarret’s name is all over those documents and that Bozo is attempting to cover for her?

On the contrary...I think that now that the headline is in the news the public should get educated about the issue as much as possible before the vote takes place.

Plus, it gives the whip time to see how many Dem votes he can order up. 31 have stated support so far. We'll see if they stand fast.

Hillary’s name probably comes up too and she has undoubtedly promised some field trips to Fort Marcy Park if any of this mess gets on her pantsuit.

I think there may be some House rules regarding the notice required for scheduling a floor vote, but I'm not positive.

Well, for once I’m caught being impatient when I have been scolding others for their hand wringing for months now. I suspect you are right.

I watched the secession this morning. I’ve never seen a display by Democrats before that was as ignorant of the facts, stupid and nasty. It was appalling.

The Dems are throwing up all kinds of roadblocks against this vote. It's really funny to read what they are saying. One of the funniest is why this committee is "wasting" its time on this and not working on "jobs, jobs, jobs". What does an Oversight Committee have to do with jobs?

One "amendment" to the vote proposed by a Dem was for an itemized list of what all this "witch hunt" is costing the taxpayers. Where was the complaint of costs during Watergate or Iran-Contra? Selective, I guess; it's OK for Dems to spend taxpayer money on "witch hunts", but very bad if Repubs do it.

All of the Dems are now stonewalling. That word needs to be used over and over and over and over. The "news" media will avoid it like the plague, but if every Repub who goes on a talk show uses that word like a mantra, it will eventually get out the sheeple.

Those weapons run to Mexico by the Oboma administration will be killing people for years. This is no small matter. There are @2 thousand of them.

From now on, every person killed with an American weapon may very well have been killed with an Obomaweapon.

IF Obama was unaware of Fast and Furious and never read the documents ..why did he issue Executive Privilege? he swears he was “out of the loop”
I would bet this will be a long drawn out process that may end up with the SCOTUS.

If this doesn't scream "Guilty!", I don't what does. The President cannot declare executive privilege over documents i order to cover up a crime which is, of course, just what Bozo is doing.

he swears he was “out of the loop”

He's on tape claiming he had nothing to do with the Obomaweapons. So, he can't use executive privilege for that. He has to be personally involved.

The part he's hiding is his involvement in the cover up. He was directly involved in that part. This is why we need a contempt vote. It will bring the issue to the court and the documents will go public.

I'll bet you're right.

She's behind every one of Obama's decisions, yet her name is hardly ever in print.

The oversight committe voted today. Next week is actually rather quick considering the legislative schedule, etc. Also, some house members are in their districts this week, but they shall be present next week.

WASHINGTON—A House committee voted to sanction Attorney General Eric Holder with contempt of Congress, escalating a standoff between Republicans and the Obama administration over documents about a botched gun-trafficking operation.

The only thing that was botched is that they got caught. What they did was intentional: Over-ride the Second Amendment by treaty, disarm Americans, and arm a criminal military enemy.
