Pelosi: Obama Should Raise Debt Limit Directly, Go Around Congress
TPM ^ | 6-20-12 | Brian Beutler

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has changed her public position on an issue that divided Democrats during the fight over raising the debt ceiling last summer.

She now says that President Obama should use the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling by fiat — to preserve the country’s credit rating and avoid another economically harmful brinksmanship over the country’s borrowing limit.

“I would like to see the constitution used to protect the country’s full faith and credit,” she told a handful of columnists at a roundtable. According to Matt Yglesias, “She didn’t offer a legal argument in favor of the position, but argued on policy grounds that ‘you cannot put the country through the uncertainty’ again, noting that America’s sovereign debt was downgraded by ratings agencies in the wake of the standoff even though it was successful resolved.”

“This isn’t just about credit ratings,” she added. “It’s about the dynamism of our economy.”

This kind of cr@p is how dictatorships happen. Not “obama is signing unconstitutional orders” dictatorships, but “you insulted dear leader, your family has been killed” dictatorships...

I pray to God that we get decent and real conservatives down ticket to boot and hopefully banish Boehner, McConnell and Cantor from leadership.

They are more than an embarrassment, they are complicit in the enabling communists, and by now our restoration is irretrievable, but we are obligated to try.

I am having to remind myself that this is truly a spiritual battle, not one of flesh and blood. This truth explains so much as to why we humans are striving but punching the air, forgetting that man has an Enemy who is only overcome on our knees in repentance. These listless, hapless, sleepy and foolish representatives of ours are the tools, I fear, of the principalities, as if God has turned us over to ourselves.

Why not? The democrats know they can get away with it. We didn’t think they would stop at Libya or gay marriage or the new Amnesty EO, did we?

When the opposing party doesn't have more than one pair (Issa) between all 241 of them, then you understand why we have entered the extr-Constitutional era. We are indeed evolving (into a dictatorship).

I believe the Tea Party is only growing in size, and that it will become increasingly influential. If the Tea Party were to state to the nation's lenders that it supported a policy of shifting all future debt to the personal bank accounts of the US leaders who incurred that debt, then those lenders would have to take that as a serious future possibility.

The results might be that, even if the credit limit were raised, there would be no lenders willing to provide funding.

Effectively the Tea Party would be stating a policy of repudiating all debt incurred in the future.

Once again I had to double check and make sure this wasn’t satire. Sad, sad, sad.

This is straight out of the Hitlarian PlayBook.
Declare crisis, urge unconstitutional action
in the name of dynamism, grant unlimited powers.
The only thing she doesn’t have is a snappy uniform.

By God, these monsters cannot have another four
years to put their hideous plan into fruition,
the consequences of any further slide to a totalitarian
regime on such a scale and with the help of computer
power is beyond horror.

Wouldn’t Section 4 be more reasonably interpreted to mean the government is constitutionally obligated to pay on the debt? In other words, other non-essential (not constitutionally mandated) programs would have to be sacrificed, if necessary, to continue servicing the debt? It seems to me the founders simply wanted to ensure the debt wasn’t written off by a political majority.

The quirky, freaky thing is that Pelosi and Reid are both on record now as imploring Obama to vitiate their own positions and authority.

Now, I am 53 years old now, and I seem to remember a few times in the past when members of both house of Congress would stand together against a President who attempted to intrude on their turf.

Party loyalty be hanged, their own power, position and prerogatives had to be vigorously defended.

Not anymore. Not the current crop anyhow. It’s becoming rapidly apparent that Senate and House Democrats are fully willing to rip up the Constitution completely and impose a one party state by giving Obama carte blanche.

Absolutely.

The validity of the public debt, shall not be questioned.

In today speak? Don’t even Think we’re going to welch on the public debt. The US Shall Be good for it, period, ‘cause Nobody would have any faith at all in our Govt or private affairs if Congress just said, poof, all gone, yeah, we borrowed all that money from you but sorry, you’re outta luck.

The Constitution is a written document and as such its meaning doesn’t change, no matter how idiots like Nancy, Harry and Barry try to torture it.

14th was 1868. Uncle Sam spent a bundle on the war between the States and the South needed faith in DC and stable money if it was going to rebuild.

It was decidedly a promise to all parties concerned that they could trust Congress not to short sheet them.

This Pelosi is the same simpleton who thinks every $1 of food stamps returns $1.75 to the economy.
Is it any surprise columnists from the Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms love to attend her “roundtables”?
