House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has changed her public position on an issue that divided Democrats during the fight over raising the debt ceiling last summer.
She now says that President Obama should use the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling by fiat — to preserve the country’s credit rating and avoid another economically harmful brinksmanship over the country’s borrowing limit.
“I would like to see the constitution used to protect the country’s full faith and credit,” she told a handful of columnists at a roundtable. According to Matt Yglesias, “She didn’t offer a legal argument in favor of the position, but argued on policy grounds that ‘you cannot put the country through the uncertainty’ again, noting that America’s sovereign debt was downgraded by ratings agencies in the wake of the standoff even though it was successful resolved.”
“This isn’t just about credit ratings,” she added. “It’s about the dynamism of our economy.”

The democrats never stand up to their own, but were willing to take all the help they could get when bringing down Nixon. James Baker was more Democrat than Republican.
None of this could happen without the help of some powerful Republicans. Mark my words the Supreme Court will issue some very bad decisions soon.

Bad for whom? Us or the Dems? If you say bad for us, I am afraid you might be right. Everyone seems to be convinced that the Supremes are going to trash Obamacare and the Arizona law — I’m less convinced.
I think the Arizona law may survive, but my gut feeling on Obamacare is that they are not going to strike down the mandate. I am not sure how they will justify it, but they won’t.
I do, however, expect a very strongly worded dissent from Justice Scalia.

The President has no authority under this amendment to circumvent Congress.
Yes, by a certain constitutional standard Obama has the authority to do this! This is the law. However, the consequences are going to be devastating to Obama and Nancy. They are destroying the democrat party!
What’s amusing is Lucas obviously had Bush, and things like the Patriot Act, in mind when he wrote that line.
They keep forgetting about that pesky "authorized by law" part of the 14th. No such law authorizing the President to increase the debt ceiling exists.
Hehe. In their own way those folks WERE Founders too. Sec 1 was supposed to make State Actors honor Amendments 1-8 which were being seen as prohibitions which restrained only Federal Actors. (as both the 2nd and 7th still do because gutless hacks on the SCOTUS have refused to incorporate them against State Actors yet)

I did and the response is, "the democrats have to take action because the republicans want the economy to fail." These people have no sense at all!
I doubt our military leaders will allow this to happen. They have an oath to the constitution, not the president. I'd like to see nobamma try such a move!
