House Republicans release final Holder contempt resolution
By Pete Kasperowicz - 06/22/12 06:22 PM ET

Republicans late Friday released the final version of the resolution asserting that Attorney General Eric Holder is in contempt of Congress for refusing to hand over documents related to the Fast and Furious gun-walking operation.

The crux of the resolution is just three paragraphs:

"Resolved, That Eric H. Holder, Jr., Attorney General of the United States, shall be found to be in contempt of Congress for failure to comply with a congressional subpoena.

"Resolved, That pursuant to 2 U.S.C. 192 and 194, the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall certify the report of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, detailing the refusal of Eric H. Holder, Jr., Attorney General, U.S. Department of Justice, to produce documents to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform as directed by subpoena, to the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, to the end that Mr. Holder be proceeded against in the manner and form provided by law.

"Resolved, That the Speaker of the House shall otherwise take all appropriate action to enforce the subpoena."

Republicans have said the resolution may be brought up next week, depending on whether Holder delivers the subpoenaed documents requested by Republicans. If it is brought up for a vote, it appears likely that it would come up Tuesday at the earliest.

The House Oversight & Government Reform Committee approved both the resolution and a committee report detailing Holder's failure to comply with GOP requests for documents. But along the way, the committee approved an amendment to the committee report, mostly to include language outlining how the Obama administration asserted executive privilege this week over certain Fast and Furious documents that Republicans had requested.

That language, from Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), said this assertion was "transparently not a valid claim of privilege given its last minute nature," and said this assertion, if valid, should have been made last October, the deadline for returning documents under subpoena.

"The President has not asserted executive privilege," the Gowdy amendment states. "This assertion, however, does not change the fact that Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. is in contempt of Congress today for failing to turn over lawfully subpoenaed documents explaining the Department's role in withdrawing the false letter it sent to Congress."

Mesta, you’ve been on this from the beginning. Any predictions how this is going to end up?

He didn’t assert the privilege . Someone else did. And he hasn’t provided the necessary information for the assertion, anyway.

Here is the interesting side story to all of this. F&F was arming the Sinaloas. The son of the Drug Cartel leader (Guzman) just got captured.

Guzman owned over 200 million dollars worth of cocaine in the crashed Former CIA rendition plane.

I don’t know what the CIA is up to but I doubt the true F&F info ever sees the light of day for the public.

Even if yried and ultimately convicted the maximum Holder faces is a year in prison and a $1000 fine. WTF?

I once bought a gun and as I was leaving the parking lot my cell phone rang. On the other side, the gun store guy was imploring me to come back and sign somewhere he forgot to tell me. He said he could get fired for that. That guy was worried about loaing his job over a signature.......yet Holder can head a program in which federal agents and mexicans are dead, repeatedly lie to Congress and withhold documents and nothing really is going to happen even with a worst case scenario for him. The time for revolution is here my FRiends.

I looked up the fines and punishment and I see that Rita Lavelle(Republican) EPA was fined 10,000, 6mos in jail and 5yrs probation back in 1983.

But it says “fine of not less then 100.00 nor no more then 1,000.00”

Confusing...

"The President has not asserted executive privilege, "???

I think he means by that, in light of the rest of the statement, that although the president claims to assert Executive privilege, that it isn't legal or binding.

This is why so many cannot stand the GOP-e leadership - wishie washie to the bone. For God's sake act with some conviction - you have been waiting for over a YEAR.

That may come out after all. Apparently the drug money is being laundered through several American banks. If Eric MyPeopleAreAboveTheLaw Holder was really smart, he'd pack up his share of the money and just disappear into a country we don't have extradition treaties with.

This is a comment on the WHI site:

“Follow the money: A professionally informed person today told me that $289 million went into the Obama campaign in ’08 that had been “laundered” in Karachi, Pakistan. Obama, once President, “repaid’ the CIA for following the money by roughing up the CIA about water boarding.”

Here is what I believe:

You jack with the CIA - they aren’t going to let you forget it.

Sorry Obama, you aren’t going to win reelection.

That's just for the Contempt of Congress charge. Once he's held in contempt, the real investigation will begin. It would be sweet justice if we brought in the Mexican government as a witness to Holder's war crimes as an international terrorist.

Must begin meme that Holder is a terrorist.

Terrorism: the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.

Terrorist: A person who uses terrorism in the pursuit of political aims.

Holder: A person who used violence and threats of violence to intimidate or coerce, by means of illegally smuggling guns with the express purpose of fomenting bloodshed in Mexico, in pursuit of the political goal of dismantling the 2nd Amendment rights of Americans.

Holder is a terrorist. Can't the DOD rendition his sorry ass via NDAA?

Ego aint gonna have a choice. He's unelectable, and he works for Hillary. Plus F&F forces him out.

I think he's gonna resign, and pardon their way out of F&F.

This drops him from the ticket, and opens the door for his employer to run this year.
