In response to my Why Were Forced to Choose Between a Bad President and an Even Worse President, a reader said that Obama "has just one fault he cannot quit spending, and said that, consequently, he MUST GO!
This basic Republican charge against Obama is a blatant Republican lie, as I shall here document conclusively.
The document, Fiscal Year 2013 Historical Tables, was recently published by the Federal Government, and it shows (pages 22-23) that the Governments actual Outlays have remained essentially flat since the 2009 budget, which was submitted under George W. Bush. In fact, Obamas first budget, 2010, even went down 1.7% (following a year in which there had been 2.7% inflation, so the real increase was -1%); the 2nd, 2011, then increased 4.3% (following a year in which inflation was 1.5%, so the real increase was 2.8%).
Thats what was actually spent. What had been proposed by the President was, of course, a bit different. George W. Bush had proposed 2009 expenditures of $3.1 trillion, but the Federal Government actually spent $3.5 trillion, because of the crash, which Bush caused. Barack Obama proposed 2010 expenditures of $3.6t, but again $3.5t were spent virtually the same amount as in 2009 because of the need to re-start demand. (Moreover, since the inflation-rate was 2.7% in 2009, federal expenditures actually went down 2.7% from 2009 to 2010, despite the Keynesian need that year to boost spending.) Obama then proposed for 2011 $3.8t, but $3.6t ended up being spent a 4% hike from the prior year. (But the inflation-rate was 1.5% in 2010, so the real spending-increase proposed in 2011 was only 2.5%.)
This is the situation. This is the reality. Its not a theory; its a frank description of the United States today.

The massive bailout and “stimulus” become the baseline.
No one is falling for this that hasn’t taken the blue pill.
All 16 trillion....

Tell that to my great-great-great grandchildren.
“As you can see, the annual addition to the national debt is strikingly dissimilar between the two presidents. President Bush’s policies added, on average, $309 billion to the national debt per year, while President Obama’s has added, on average, $1.311 trillion per year.

yes,. he (and his pals in the Congress who hide the facts by refusing to enact a budget during his entire term of office)
l... he has run up over $5 TRILLION dollars of new Debt on OUR (taxpayers) account.
Supposedly for “shovel ready stimulus projects.”
But even he has admitted that he did not have any such projects.
SO... where has he stashed our %5 TRILLION dollars!????????????????????????????????????????????
This has the signs of being the biggest financial RipOff in all history..... those $5,000,000,000,000.69 OF OUR DOLLARS are SOMEWHERE? Bank of Switzerland Secret Account? Cayman Islands Bank secret account? MuslimBrothers Savings and Loan Association of East Cairo secret account? WHERE IS ALL OUR MONEY!~?
What is this "budget" thing of which you speak? Obama doesn't have a budget, Reid doesn't have a budget, the US doesn't have a budget.
Zeusse drinks the Kool Aid and then attempts to pass it around.
So strip away all the fraudulent pseudo intellectual fake statistic manipulation and all this Obot is saying “it’s Bush’s fault!”
OK, Eric Zeusse, when you finish ignoring the baseline bugeting, explain how the National Dept DOUBLED after zero got into office. (BTW, how long does it take to double something at a rate of 2 per cent per year?)
Did the omnipotent W cause zero to be totally helpless during zero’s whole tenure?
So Mr. Zeusse can produce statements by Obama that we’re spending too much and we must reverse the course. I thought not.
This is the kind of stupidity I have come to expect from Business Insider.
Suppose for years, you spent $100 a year. Then one year, your car blew up, and you spent $1000 to fix it.
Then, your wife took over the spending.
If your wife then spent $1000 a year for the next 3 years, only an idiot or a write for Business Insider would claim that she wasn’t a big spender, because she is only spending the same amount as her husband did.
Actually, you know what is even WORSE? Bush gets hit with “big spending” because of TARP. But after they “spent” the $700 billion (authorized), they got almost all of it back — during Obama’s term.
If not for TARP, government revenues would have been worse during Obama’s term. And if you went back like a sane person and reduced Bush’s spending by the amount paid back, you’d find that Obama has increased spending by hundreds of millions.
BTW, if Obama had dropped spending back to 2008 levels after his first year, it would be reasonable not to claim he was a “big spender” based on his “stimulus” spending.
But when you submit 3 straight budgets that spend more than the EMERGENCY spending that was supposed to “fix” the economy, you are a BIG SPENDER.

Outlays have remained essentially flat since the 2009 budget, which was submitted under George W. Bush.
