The Fall of Dictators and the Antichrist
Townhall.com ^ | June 24, 2012 | Michael Youssef

The blog posts that I write are not intended to be pastoral in nature; they are written on behalf of a for-profit entity and don't represent any of the ministries I'm associated with. Nonetheless, religion and politics sometimes intersect, and it's inevitable that my writing will sometimes reflect that intersection.

As a trained sociologist who is deeply anchored in biblical truth, I am beginning to wonder about the commonality of current events.

A secular-minded sociologist will view our current period in history as just another time when social and economic forces have conspired to provoke enormous global, political, and economic upheaval.

Conversely, some mystics point to what is known to be the end of the Mayan calendar and expect that a global upheaval is upon us. There is perhaps no society more secular than Australia, and yet, the Sydney Morning Herald recently reportedthat 1 out of every 10 Australians believe the world will end on December 12, 2012. Amazing!

The dramatic fall of many dictators in recent years, along with the apparent near-future demise of others, has caused some to wonder if the fall of those despots is a preparation for the rise of the ultimate despot.

The Bible indicates that a world-dominating character will rise at some point. That person is often referred to as the Antichrist.

The Antichrist has certain characteristics that appear to fit many past despots, which led some to speculate about Adolf Hitler or Saddam Hussein, for example. But speculations are not very helpful. Because of contradictory elements within suspected people, it will be very difficult to predict the Antichrist until he actually appears on the scene and identifies himself publicly.

The Antichrist will show up at a time when there's true global, political, social, and economic upheaval. And people will believe that he is the only one capable of solving those seemingly insurmountable problems.

He will be charismatic and affable, and he'll mesmerize people everywhere. Even those normally at odds with each other will be united in liking and following him. He will win global approval by his sheer ability to identify with people of all religions and of no religion at all. Only after he is able to receive adoration from the masses will he reveal his true character and intentions.

The followers of Jesus worship Him out of gratitude for His indescribable love, for his dying on a cross, rising again, and giving them eternal salvation. But ultimately, the Antichrist will demand the worship that is only reserved for Christ. Hence, that is the source of his name, Antichrist.

As current events unfold, believers need to be on their guards. More and more people today, including many churchgoers and professing Christians, view salvation as earthly salvation. A vast majority of people believe that missions should only be about alleviating human suffering in merely physical terms.

The growth of such beliefs, along with the fall of so many despots, makes me wonder. Is this indeed a time of preparation? Is the vacuum now being created so that the antichrist will appear to fill? It gives us something to ponder. It is something to take to heart and be warned about.

>>>He will win global approval by his sheer ability to identify with people of all religions and of no religion at all.>>>

That leaves Zero out. Since when does he identify with Christians? As far as we know, he hasn’t even joined a church since he left his old one.

Dear Leader identifies with “christians” who attend churches that preach social justice, liberation theology, spew that the Bible no longer matters, and fly the abomination rainbow freak flag out front.
We are not deceived.

After his Freudian Slip during his interview with George Stephanopoulos, referring to his Muslim faith, the Muslim call to prayers the sweetest sound, admitting that he’d side with Muslims, congratulating the the new Muslim Brotherhood winner of the Egyptian elections...need I say more?

More and more people today, including many churchgoers and professing Christians, view salvation as earthly salvation. A vast majority of people believe that missions should only be about alleviating human suffering in merely physical terms.

These beliefs are part of the culture now - think of them as gay bathhouse values - looking good is king - health food, working out, snappy clothes - money for bucket lists and stuff. It's no wonder the teen bullies took on the grandmother... being a teen bully isn't a problem. Being cruel isn't a problem. Being a thief or drug user isn't a problem - not for liberals. Liberals' concept of morality doesn't go much past worry about sugar in big gulps...

(imho) The stories in the Bible are meant to be ‘applied’ on many levels.

The story of the Antichrist is something that ‘we’ have to deal with daily, and during our lifetime, and for the final fate of mankind.

To clarify, we have a personal ‘antichrist’. We may have one in current national leadership (our lifetime). And there yet may be another slew of them and a final hoedown with the Beast at a time when we have too many who are ‘antichrist’. It could mean the end of man (I doubt it), but it might mean the end of Christianity.

Back when Obama was running for POTUS, I read something extraordinary on another forum.

There was the usual, rather lightweight joshing about the possibility that Obama was the antichrist, and somebody had been making some telling points on his supporters, when one of Obama’s supporters lost his cool, and said something that really took me aback.

He said he wished that Obama *was* the antichrist! Why?
Because he would be *powerful*, and give us (his supporters) what we want, and punish those we hate.

Whoa.

If the leftist-idealist-socialist mindset has gone this far, we (everyone else) have a serious problem on our hands.

That is, if they are willing to support the antichrist itself, out of their greed and burning hate, this means they would support the most horrific tyrants and tyrannies imaginable.

Others, like Dr. Eric R. Pianka and other environmental extremists, have called for the extermination of 9/10ths of the people of the Earth. Pianka was greeted with a standing ovation for this idea before a crowd of hundreds of other “scientists” and “science students”.

Why? “To save the Earth.”

For who? Their master?

He will be charismatic and affable

Well I guess we can rule out Alfred E. Neuman, he definitely is not affable.

Since everyone will love the anti christ, obama can’t be it. But there’s no doubt he sure as hell wanted to be.

As another FReeper remarked recently, Obama doesn’t have the work ethic to be the Antichrist.

It's most definitely beyond an "if" - passed that point a long time back.

Roughly 48 to 72 hours after the attacks on Sept. 11 2001, I went to wandering all around the internet looking for reactions to the attacks. Not sure why I did it, it was pretty time consuming, guess I was very curious. I went by every sort of site imaginable - official government pages, personal pages, talkgroups, forums of people of all sorts of nationalities, ethnic groups, belief systems, creeds. Followers of Buddha, Christians of all denominations, Druids, Hindus, Pagans, Satanists (devil worshippers), Sikhs, Shintos, Wiccans - you name it -  and yes of course muslims, though they were very quiet, at least by what I could see or read in English. What all I found was a mixture of shock, anger, fear and many prayers offered up for the dead and injured as well as for peace. Of all those wanderings, the only group I found at that time, beside the denizens of the Gaza Strip, who were openly high-fiving each other and doing happy dances were, as you put them, the leftists-idealists-socialists. Mere hours after those terrible attacks, there were these groups of people all fired up and scheming on how to take advantage of the situation, ecstatic about how they were going to make hay out of all that. And those weren't some faceless foreign thugs spewing all that insanity, but Americans - I checked, I looked some of them up which was easier back in that time, with people tending to be more casual about their personal info than it is now. Mostly adult, caucasian people in America. I remember the emotion when the realization sunk in - a nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach, pretty well as bad as on the day of the 9/11 attacks. I saw right at that moment that there was trouble incubating right on this continent, big domestic trouble to come. And here we are today in 2012, with the fullness of that scenario yet to play out.

Where is that found in the Bible?

Daniel and Revelation...the writer has distilled his comments from writings regarding the Beast found in those two books.

It ends with Christ ruling with his saints bodily out of Jerusalem bodily for a period of 1000 years plus (”a little season” when Satan is unchained and allowed to deceive the nations again...).

(Here is a repost of mine from another thread which I think is germane, if troubling:)

Some of the peculiar psychologies of liberals bear an eerie resemblance to behavioral changes brought about in rodents by toxoplasmosis.

The protozoa is almost unique in that it produces an enzyme that affects dopamine production in the brain, particularly the pleasure center. By doing this, it trains the rodent to be attracted to what it fears, specifically the odor of cat urine, ending up with the rodent being eaten, a necessary step in the reproductive cycle of the protozoa.

An estimated 11 million Americans are believed to be infected by this protozoa, via undercooked meat or cat feces. And since rodent brains are somewhat similar to human brains, it raises the question of the psychological effects of infestation.

Just on the surface, this might explain why liberals are so attracted to America’s enemies, and are so repelled by the idea of us, as a nation, protecting or defending ourselves.

This is only speculation, of course, as associating subtle changes to the brain with psychological results is difficult at best.
