If you have a job and quit without another lined up, you’re a dolt.

Sadly, most employers realize they have their employees by the gonads and have grown almost militant in their treatment.

My fiancee works for a healthcare conglomerate, and the things they’re doing to their employees makes my hair stand on end.

Most economists are paid with Federal money. That is why they have become increasingly irrelevant.

With Real Unemployment and Underemployment at around 20%, it’s foolish to quit even a job you hate. This isn’t the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. However, I think businesses are sitting around, waiting on who’s elected President. If Romney’s elected, I see companies deciding to hire new folks and wipe the dust off expansion plans. If B. Hussein is re-elected, look for some companies to go out of business, or to “Go Galt” and start up somewhere offshore.

If Obama and Obama Care are defeated/reversed in 2012, then we will witness what will become known among the Mediot elite as, THE GREAT RACIST RECOVERY OF 2013.

I am in stable and fairly level-headed environment after a couple years of contracting and a few employers from hell. It is comical money but the environment is head and shoulders better over many corp and state gov-co asylums I know of.

Not all.

I had a great job, but decided the stress was too much and wanted to relax. So I trained a replacement and basically retired to Thailand.

No I do not have a pension, and am well under 62. But I looked and decided I was sick of paying 1/4 of my income in taxes and could live on less.

Now I am living the dream (except I have to budget). I auctioned off most of my assets and am living off my savings. Which is a hell of a lot better than 60 hour weeks and losing a large percentage of my income to taxes.

Life is good. Cheers as a my Lady brings me a fresh cold beer.

No wonder people "go postal" and there are workplace shootings...if they are treating people as if they "have them by the gonads". (and I am NOT condoning that). Still, there is a right way and a wrong way. You treat human beings right during tough times and they will remember it. You piss all over them and, well, they will also remember it.

How management can be so short termed and weak on vision is beside me at times.

My daughter-in-law just quit her job as a partner in her law firm to be a stay at home Mom. Financially, it will be a big hit but she and my son feel it’s worth it.

You may be right.

My financee lives in AK and is sick of the company she is working for. I could get into the details regarding the nature of the work and the similiaries of the company culture that your fiancee is experiencing but since my lady hasn’t put her final word in, I am refraining from such detail on the web.

Well, we are getting married in a few weeks and I am moving her down to the lower 48.

We have our fingers crossed....

My fiancee and I are getting married in less than 2 weeks.

I told her that once the knot is tied and I’m hired on full time at my new company (currently contracted temp-to-perm), she can quit and become house frau if she wants to.

If nothing else, it’ll give her the opportunity to relax for a while and perhaps start carrying our child, God willing.

MANY employers are mistreating their non-management employees, because they know they can get away with it. Many folks at this company have threatened to leave, but with the unemployment glut being what it is, there would be a dozen applications on her’s boss’s desk the morning after she quit.

I do agree with other posters, however, that employers would be much better off treating their employees well to maximize profits during this downturn, and when things start looking up, they can share in the wealth and reward those who stuck it out.

Congratulations and best wishes for the future!

Fairbanks AK is just too far away and too cold during the winter!!! I hope she can adjust to the new climate and the distance away from her parents!

Cheers!

Sadly, most employers realize they have their employees by the gonads and have grown almost militant in their treatment.

My cousin goes in at 8:00 in the morning and she is lucky to get home by 7-8:00 at night and she works many Saturdays to catch up..Yes she is salary.

What really blows is her division has had near record sales and they have 7-8 people less in her department.

When the economy improves she is going to move on and give them the finger on the way out...yes, she feels taken advantage of to say the least.

If that keeps up for very long there will be an inevitable backlash.

In prior years people would have formed unions. In the present environment though they will go running off to Big Daddy Government to kick the mean man in the shins and take away his money.

Sadly, most employers the GOP establishment types realize they have their employees conservatives by the gonads and have grown almost militant in their treatment.

Hmmm. Still true.

Congratulations! Living on one income isn’t a bad idea at all. When I worked full time, I wasted so much money in groceries that spoiled before I got around to cooking them. No time to cut coupons. Too much carry out.
