What Did SCOTUS Just Do?

Was today's Supreme Court Obamacare decision a win for conservatives or a loss? It depends on what you were rooting for.

If you were above all interested in the bill being struck down, it was mostly a loss. On the other hand, if you were more concerned about the qualitative expansion in the power of the government that the bill represented, it was definitely a win.

First, the Roberts Court put real limits on what the government can and cannot do. For starters, it restricted the limits of the Commerce Clause, which does not give the government the power to create activity for the purpose of regulating it. This is a huge victory for those of us who believe that the Constitution is a document which offers a limited grant of power.

Dread pirate Roberts just upheld government tyranny and power. Look at the taxes Roberts said were ok.

Jay Cost, you are insane.

This decision says that the government can compel you to do anything, as long as it makes the penalty for non-compliance a tax.

There is no victory here, no silver lining. The court has affirmed what they began with in Kelo -- to remind us that we are nothing but serfs who don't actually own property but must do whatever the government orders us to do.

No, it doesn't.

Jay Cost is a moron. We lost. We lost big. The whole country lost.

Did the commerce clause get a real bonk on the nose? I’ll believe it when Uncle Sam can only “tax” against things like locally grown marijuana (which I do not recommend that anybody smoke except for possible bona fide medicinal use, but as a test case in point).

Personally I think they solidified the GOP hold on the house and guaranteed GOP control of the senate.

The SC said the federal government can order us to do anything they please as long as they call it a tax, even though they don’t call it a tax. Confused?

Well, this is an echo of how Social Security was sold to the USSC. It’s a tax, mon!

SCOTUS just told us: Don't expect us to do your job!

Our forefathers overthrew a king now it's our turn -- and we have a two-hundred-plus-year tradition of elections to overthrow this clown king peacefully.

Uh,...exactly where/how did the the SC limit any of the law? You must have to go through a law school to have this little sense. It’s like they called a cat a rabbit, therefore it is, so don’t worry about it being a cat because cat’s aren’t allowed.

This clown is dillusional. When the court can simply change the word penalty to tax and say the government is restricted, there are no restrictions. Liberals change the meaning of words all the time to fit an agenda.

They didn’t just not call it a tax, they said it was not a tax.

Roberts is W Bush’s spawn. W Bush made Obama and Obamacare possible, and Roberts finalized it.

They can pass a law that you must kill grandma or will be penalized $100,000. That’s perfectly okay with Roberts, the statist.

"Personally I think they solidified the GOP hold on the house and guaranteed GOP control of the senate."

It won't matter unless Obama is defeated in November. He has been moving heaven and earth to make Congress a ceremonial body and has already established many ways to raise and spend money without Congressional authorization. He is now legitimizing millions of illegal aliens and will give them work permits while preventing states from purging and protecting the voting rolls. You can bet that these illegals will be registered to vote and will vote as many times as physically possible.

This decision reaffirms the goverment’s ability to coerce / dictate individual behavior by tax policy. Hurray, hurray what a wonderful victory for conservative principles.

While that is true, the only way to get rid of obamacare is to get 60 in the senate. I don’t think that is likely.

What Did SCOTUS Just Do?

They took a not surprising course and kicked the matter back into the hands of the voters.

The showdown is in November.

Be there.

This decision continues the process of dissolving the States and says, in effect, that the People and the States have no powers which the central government is bound to honor or respect.

It certainly, in effect, repeals the ninth and tenth amendments.

It can be defunded and a new health care law passed through reconciliation.

The lesson here: If you want something done, do it yourself.

Don’t expect the SCOTUS to pull our political chestnuts out of the fire. Don’t even trust them to pull our constitutional chestnuts out of the fire. The libs have relied on the court to do for them what they could not do through the political branches. I think the long term political tide is against them, and this tactic will ultimately fail them, as it has failed us today.

At the end of the day, O-care will stand or fall, based on the actions of the political branches of gov’t.

Therefore, we need to be loud, support candidates that support liberty and limited gov’t, vote, and convince others to vote. No RINO’s. All of our elected officials need to hear explicitly and loudly from us. We must contribute and support those who are true conservatives.
