"In Israel, when doctors went on strike, health outcomes were better. Though I'm not advocating that." - Jan Schakowsky (D-IL)

Wow. You should call Rush, Levin, or Hannity with your story. More people need to hear what you are saying.
People do not realize that everyone gets treated now. You and I are providing probono care and the hospitals eat their loss. Now, rationing is going to piss off everyone, except those who are treated by people who opt out...that is people willing to pay for their service. The wealthy will still get theirs. The rest are thrown into a large pool. They will pick the pockets of the payors. There will be nothing constraining a visits for the smallest hangnail. After all it is a RIGHT. Obama and the dems have destroyed what was the best (albeit flawed) health care delivery system in the world. I have never been called to the ER and refused a patient. Not ever. And I have treated a lot of people who had no buisness in the ER. Now, I predict, hospital ERs will buldge at the seams with 3 times the number of untreated patients. Waiting will be the currency of the patients. If I go to the ER I will declare I have chest pain, I am short of breath...I think I am having a heart attack....that should get you to the front of the line. But, that would not be the right thing to do.
I do not see anyone with an answer once this Roberts Tax/Medical Law in implemented. We will never go back. I really do worry for my kids futures. It seeems they are trying to destabilize society so they can 'reshouffle' the deck and reorder society. This is just part of getting the electorates 'mind right'. I am not optimistic.
Good luck to you and yours.
These are 2 examples of stories I have....There are 1000 others I could tell you. All surgeons have similar stories. Mine are not unique. I have been very fortunant. I have had a great run...a great practice, and mostly enjoyed my work. The paperwork is a pain in the ass, but that is part of it. I figure I have done somewhere between 10-12 million dollars (in terms of usual and customary fees) in gratuity. I always felt it was part of my way of paying back for my good fortune. But it is falling apart before our eyes. I have watched the decay since the DRGs were imposed on medicine....and from there it has accellerated in governmental impositions. Now, it has arrived, for me,...I don’t need this anymore. When I was a young surgeon I enjoyed the thrill of getting in, fixing whatever need fixing. I was cocksure I could fix it...no matter what it was. Now it is just work, mostly unappreciated and uncompensated. I go out at night and even if I am home in a few hours I don’t sleep well. And with an office full tomorrow, I will be 48 hours recouping. I don’t mean this as a complaint...I just realize I am getting to the point....like B.B.King said, the thrill has gone. There will be life after surgery. I have a great family. My wife is as close to perfect as anyone can be. And I have a pasture full of Angus cattle to keep me busy. The surgeries will be done,....just not by me. I am outta here.
Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you for your service.
Good luck in going Galt.
And good luck to you as well. I’m in a similar position. 3 kids. The oldest about to make me a grandma. The middle son halfway through his theology degree, with four years of SE,unary after that. And my youngest just finished her first year majoring in pre-med and ballet. I hope she chooses dance because I am afraid the medical field has little to offer her
DH and I (both hospitalists) would ideally work at least part time for 7 more years until the last one is out of school. But we are gone in 2014 unless this mess gets repealed. We will work something out....
4 years of seminary. It’s getting late and my typing skills are deteriorating
Thanks NoLibZone.
thanks for the front-lines story.
i’m frightened by the prospect of skills like yours becoming scarce in the future.
Redistricting moved me from the 10th District (RINO Kirk then Dold) to the 9th District (Schakowsky Commie - IL). Unfortunately, she’s won the last couple of times with about 75% of the vote. Her husband’s a convicted criminal. The district’s probably now slightly more Republican but it will be almost impossible to defeat her.
