Roberts's Rules (pretty much explains his decision...)
The Atlantic ^ | January, 2007 | JEFFREY ROSEN

Some of the least successful chief justices, Roberts suggested, had faltered because they misunderstood the job, approaching it as law professors rather than as leaders of a collegial Court. Harlan Fiske Stone, a former dean of Columbia Law School, was a case in point. Stone “was a failure as chief, because of his misperception of what a chief justice is supposed to be,” Roberts said, gesturing to the justices’ private conference room through an open door of his office. “It’s his desk out there that is separate from the conference table, and he … sat at his desk, and the others were at the table, and he almost called on them and critiqued their performances. They hated that.” Roberts laughed. “As a result, he was a failure as a chief justice.”

In Roberts’s view, the most successful chief justices help their colleagues speak with one voice. Unanimous, or nearly unanimous, decisions are hard to overturn and contribute to the stability of the law and the continuity of the Court; by contrast, closely divided, 5–4 decisions make it harder for the public to respect the Court as an impartial institution that transcends partisan politics.

I think Mark Levin is using your post (a FR link to the article) as the basis of his show today.

So you were doing his show prep yesterday!

Though his website doesn't show it, he mentioned FR on the show for the link to the article you found and then linked directly to the article after the show.

That’s funny, I’m underpaid as a research assistant I guess :)

Still don’t think anything more of the ruling, wish Roberts were a different man, but no longer surprised that he did this, it’s just who he is.

Roberts and Obama have destroyed freedom in the U.S..The states need to secede from the union. And then those states write a new constitution that states that the federal government’s only roles are in defending the country from Foreign threats like illegals and china. Never will it be allowed for government at any level to get involved in schools, healthcare, or welfare or charity.99% of what governments do know should be abolished and illegal. The only thing the government could have a small role is in roads as they already ruined that So governments should only deal with police(local), military , border control, customs( federal), roads( states), courts at all levels (only to protect individual and property rights )and only a sales tax and tarrifs allowed at any level of government. That means an EPA, government schools, HUD,HHS , dept of energy, income tax, property taxes are always illegal.

Democrats really believe that the people who run the department of motor vehicles or government schools (Like a high school principle etc.) will be able to provide the cutting edge technology and diagnostics to save our lives. Add to that government rationing , waiting lines of months etc. and you see that you or your loved ones will die( and suffer) in one of those lines or from getting inferior treatment from one of these government doctors. government/socialism doesn’t work.

Look at the totalitarian goofballs like school teachers and staff and imagine those creeps trying to find cutting edge treatments, cutting edge technology , to save your life when you need it fast and efficiently and competently. Democrats really prefer this than to have freedom of choice and freedom.

Before I could go to any doctor in the U.S. , of my choice and if I didn’t like his treatment or if he didn’t cure me then I could find another. And I paid a whopping $250 per month for this health insurance. now that’s pretty low when you consider rent for an apartment is $800 per month, payments and insurance for a car is close to that $600 etc.. Yeah democrats want to be cheap and think they will get something for free. What they’ll get is 2 years on a waiting list for what for garbage care. And we already had medicaid, medicare for the poor and elderly, also some free state hospitals here in this state. No this wasn’t enough for democrats. You have taken away freedom of choosing your doctor.
In the free market you can choose from thousands of doctors . but soon you can only go to a doctor that the government tells you . And if you don’t like him well too bad. democrats/liberals/socialists are insane.

2700 pages of government control , bureaucracies, death panels, a taking a way of freedoms. Anyone who upholds this socialism and government control was never a conservative. Roberts and other liberals think all this will be better to have government control us more and to lose our freedom. Se we’ll pay 22 new taxes to be put on a waiting list for 2 years so a DMV doctor tells us there is nothing wrong with us ( as happens now in England). And liberals are celebrating this. Now they can tax us to control everything we do or don’t do. This is not freedom , socialism doesn’t work. Europe is in decline and so is the U.S. all due to the democrats/socialists and the media

Agreed.

I think though that our constitution as a whole is good - though a tweak or two (at least) is in order.

A good starting point would be to remove the language of the 16th amendment ...

This excuse for a jurist is just a neurotic puppy searching for approval in the only venue he’s become accustomed to : DC Media, Mainstream Media, DC elites, and the potential castigations he’d receive from Democrats. He doesn’t have any balls, he apparently doesn’t have any principles.

The damage he’s done will last well beyond his lifetime, but why would he care; he seeks only the approval of today from the people whose opinions he most certainly values most.

He is at best an idiot, and at worst (most likely) a traitor who sold his and our soul for approval. He is despicable. W should have looked into his eyes and asked some tough questions instead of having that fool Rove ‘calculate’ the options. A goddam traitor.
