Gretchen Morgenson on Repeat of C-Span Q&A at 11 EDT

Anyone wanting to understand the beginnings of great economic collapse of 2008 should start with the book "Reckles$ Endangerment", by Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner. Mortgenson is finally interviewed by Brian Lamb on this week's C-Span Q&A, and gets to tell a bit of the story of how government mismanagement and outright corruption in the early 90's set the stage for the wrecked economy in the late 00's. Lamb, for some reason, tries his best to turn a lot of the blame to Republicans, and Morgenson does the obligatory "both sides of the aisle" routine, but the names you'll hear are those of your very favorites from the Democrat stable - Clinton, Summers, Shalala, Geithner, Rubin, Conrad, Boxer, Gorelick, Dodd, Frank - and especially James Johnson (who ran Walter Mondale's presidential campaign) and hi-jacked Fannie Mae in the 90's to buy up cut-rate mortgages and resell them as securitized junk while pocketing vast amounts of essentially taxpayer money for himself and his henchmen. The program is an hour long and starts at 11:00 PM EDT.

Great book, so-so interview as Lamb rambles through such strange questions as why, if Morgenson and Johnson are both from Minnesota, do they think in such different terms. Still well-worth watching - finally an interview which puts the focus for the great collapse where it belongs - on government, with hardly a mention of evil Wall Street. Back to Inspector Morse......
