This US summer is 'what global warming looks like'

WASHINGTON (AP) - If you want a glimpse of some of the worst of global warming, scientists suggest taking a look at U.S. weather in recent weeks.

Horrendous wildfires. Oppressive heat waves. Devastating droughts. Flooding from giant deluges. And a powerful freak wind storm called a derecho.

These are the kinds of extremes climate scientists have predicted will come with climate change, although it's far too early to say that is the cause. Nor will they say global warming is the reason 3,215 daily high temperature records were set in the month of June.

Since the Colorado Springs fire, that leveled 346 homes and killed 2 people was ARSON, it seems the prime suspects would be found among those hyping the “Global Warming” lie.

Hogwash. There have been many summers way hotter than this.

I remember spending the summer in Atlanta in 1977 and they had something like 50 days in a row over 90 degrees. Unusual even for the Deep South. Anybody mentioning global warming in those days would have been laughed at and regarded as a crackpot. Those were the days!

funny... and here i thought it was just weather

hmph

of course, you can’t get campaign contributions or levy taxes on people for ‘weather’. to do that, you have to dress it up a bit and get people panicking.

Sorry but adding a hispanic name to a windstorm does not make it a freak storm.

Please.. what udder bunk.

Heat Waves, droughts, wild fires, floods, mud slides, tornados, hurricanes... all have happened long before anyone burned a hydrocarbon and will continue to happen long after the last one gets burned.

This is idiotic. The earth naturally goes through cycles, some are short enough for man to have noticed directly and predict (11 year sun spot cycles).. others can only be observed indirectly (glacial maximums and minimums). Given we are in an interglacial period, (and thank god we are) history suggest the climate will continue to moderate, until such time as we enter a long term cooling period and glacial activity increases and expands.

Its FREAKING SUMMER!!! HEAT WAVES HAPPEN.. WILD FIRES HAPPEN... to try to blame this on “man made climate change” is nonsense.

There are plenty of real damage we do do to the environment, acid rain, acid mine drainage, direct polution, etc etc etc.. but this CO2 is killing the earth is NONSENSE on its face, and its shameful folks are buying into it.

Problem solved.

And every year since Katrina, like clockwork, they've predicted a very active hurricane season, and they've been wrong every time. But, I noticed the past few years, they've declined to blame it on global warming. Gee, maybe that's because they're more wrong than a stopped clock.

Just remember: Hot in Summer = Global Warming, Cold in Winter = Climate Change.

I've noticed that also.

Now that weather has been politicized, it's all about the hype and the agenda.

Nobody ever does analysis of how good the predictions were.

Indeed. You can say that until the cows come home.

Cold weather is simply weather.

When I was a kid cold weather was a sure sign of impending disaster due to global cooling.

Yep, the USA has never had heat waves, droughts or wildfires before in its 220 years history. Nope, it is all just caused by evil SUVs. </sarcasm>

***Horrendous wildfires.***

Global Warming causes wildfires? I remember back in 1956 we got our first TV. One of the first Public Service adds I saw was one warning about wildfires. It said that there are so many wildfires in the US each year they could cover the entire state of Louisiana! In 1956!

Oh but wait, It was hot back then! Probably all that Ethyl and regular gas we were burning.

In my area of Michigan we’re experiencing a very localized drought. 20 or 30 miles away in all directions is getting plenty of rain but here we’re bone dry.

we must live in the same dry swath. rained this am, but I wasn’t impressed with it—just steamed things up

Unless it is a warm day in the winter then and only then is it global warming. A huge blizzard or a really cold day is irreverent.
