If you walk the medicine aisles you will notice lots of holes where name brand meds are supposed to be, plus an overabundance of store brands spaced out to fill in places where those name brands are supposed to live. Even things like Tylenol and Motrin, which were recalled several years ago, remain in short supply. I too would like to know why there have been so many of these recalls and shortages without having to don a tinfoil hat.

There was a Rolaids recall a year or more ago and it still has not reappeared in the stores I shop. That recall was due to a fungicide sprayed on wooden pallets which had been absorbed by the plastic bottles used for 100 count or higher amounts.

You might be able to Google and learn the reason for a Maalox recall.

I highly recommend you do NOT take Maalox or any other antacids for that matter. They have a large amount of aluminum in them and there is abundant information out there that says it causes Parkinson’s, dementia, alzheimers, etc.

My father took Maalox for 30 years, every day for the most part, and he has Parkinson’s now.

There are VERY healthy ways to do away with heartburn. Drink plenty of water and take magnesium which is alkaline.

Novartis’ Maalox acid relief OTC shortage causes concerns

1 June 2012

Novartis Nebraska plant closure, owing to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raising serious concerns over manufacturing, has led to shortage of Maalox acid relief over the counter (OTC) drug in Canada.

The shortage is said to have come about at the Novartis’ plant manufacturing large number of OTC products, including Benefibre, Buckley’s, Excedrin, NeoCitran, Otrivin and Triaminic.
In March 2012, Novartis Canada said that there could be possible shortage of the number of OTC products and was not sure to when they would supply, owing to the upgrade going on at its manufacturing facility.

The local supermarket now how three different “store” brands, and almost no “name” brands. The value of products for sale seems to be going down as fast as the money supply is going up. What a coincidence!

Funny you should mention it! My dad is a inexplicable fountain of knowledge and last weekend he was talking about Maalox leaving the market. According to him, several different indigestion type products are made at the same plant in Nebraska. Maalox samples were tested and discovered to have cross contamination of the drugs. The owners have closed the factory in order to fix the problem, however they do not plan to manufacture Maalox again at this time. Dad hypothesized that re-tooling to make Maalox must not be as cost effective as focusing on other drugs that are easier to produce or create more revenue.

Don’t know about the Maalox, but I had the exact same experience with Tylenol. I am a newshound, and had heard not a whisper of anything about it, yet all store shelves were bare.

I just did a search for the Pepcid AC and Pepcid Complete and found that the price had gone up to over $100 for 50 tablets at one store and the lowest price was just under $30 but that store only had 13 left.

Something is up. There was some crazy recall of pepcid products about a year and a half ago and all the products disappeared.

I imagine that it is the same with Maalox.

Have you tried to buy a bottle of Benadryl lately? Maybe Maalox and Benadryl have met the same fate.

I wondered what was going on. It’s been missing from our local store shelves for about 3 months. At first I thought it was gov’t stockpiling for SHTF.

My guess would be that the disappearance of the popular over the counter drugs is just another part of the pressure that Obama used to win concessions with Big Pharma for his health care bill.
