Charlie LeDuff golfs the length of Detroit - What 50 years of Democrat rule does to a city)
Fox Detroit ^ | Jul 05, 2012 | Dennis Kraniak

FOX 2's Charlie LeDuff takes on an epic challenge of golfing his way from 8 Mile Road to Belle Isle... literally. It's a par 3,168, 18-mile, single hole course.

The 46-year-old Pulitzer Prize winning writer carries only four clubs in his bag while facing extraordinary hazards that took years to form. He strokes his way through grassy fields, abandoned houses and crumbling landmarks. The half-way houses on this course are real.

Its crazy. There are people offering to fix city vehicles for free, The Red Wings are willing to buy in car computers for police and the city doesn’t respond.

It wasn’t the policies that sunk Detroit, it was just that the policies were not implemented correctly. Yeah, that’s it.

It has a lot to do with it. A few years back, Monica Conyers made it clear that contracts to work in the city would not be going to people of the "wrong color".

You could have done that 20 years ago, you just would have needed a bag of balls and five extra sets of clubs.

This is what I call golfing a city... scoring a 3427 (Par 2) (golf starts just after 13:30)

A pitiful Teamster official who practically crawled to the table on his knees expressing profuse respect for this disrespectful body was battered by both the crowd and the council.

When he dared suggest that an improved Cobo Center would create more good-paying jobs for union workers, Conyers reminded him, "Those workers look like you; they don't look like me."

Desperate, he invoked President Barack Obama's message of unity and was angrily warned, "Don't you say his name here."

Commentary: Elect a crazy council, get crazy results

Welcome to BRA.

My eyes opened after I was stationed in the DC area and I spent several years watching the local and national events and happenings.

LOL these racist clowns. I would argue that the white devils who have the money should not be treated with disdain but these are close-minded blacks.

"Windsor, ON has had a socialist government for 50 years."

Canada's Liverpool. T***y bars and talentless garage bands. And a couple of decent Viet restaurants...

hate to inform you all but the biggest role in Detroits downhill slide was forced busing and no one except me ever mentions it...I was born in Detroit and lived in the city, but newly married and the cost of housing in detroit led us to the suburbs. That was in 1959. The city was still lovely...forced busing of kids from K-12 so black and white kids could sit in the same room was disgusting to both black and white parents....Hey guys, lets put your kindergarden kid on a bus, ride for 45 minutes and drop him off in a place he/she doesn't know....Middle class black and whites moved out as soon as they could. Left the only citizens the non tax payers and crooks for politicans....

No after school activities cause once the bus left the school, there was no way to get home unless your parents had 2 cars so a parent could pick you up and sometimes with traffic, the ride could take 45 min. to an hour. Back in those days very few people owned 2 cars....most women stayed home to raise the family....by the 70's women went to work usually just to make enough money to pay all the taxes....

The High Schools were all ready integrated...grades 1-6 was within walking distance from your home, grades 7-9 covered a larger area and variety of students...I went to pershing high school, took a regular bus with a discount card as a student, the ROTC when I was in high school actually brought their guns to school one day a week for practice.

“In other words, the council members are all a bunch of homeys who hate crackez’, right?”

Actually, No. It’s just that they seem to be incapable of running a city. We have the same problem here in Oakland, CA. The nature of their being wedded to Socialism/Marxism destines them to failure. Their dependency on government solutions and their unwillingness to make hard choices doom them to failure. That plus a few of them going to jail for corruption.

Hard to believe that Detroit at one time was the biggest “middle class” city in the US - bigger than NY, Chicago, LA, Philadelphia, etc. The middle class simply got laid off/left. This is what remains. You don’t hear “hollowed out” in business speak much anymore, but Detroit is basically a “hollowed out” city.

Detroit currently has the highest percentage of blacks of any large city in the nation at 84 percent.

My daughter had a big dollar job offer to work there in the auto industry but turned it down after visiting. Her exact words were “It’s like a war zone. There was razor wire all around the buildings and parking lot. They told me not to walk outside the wire for any reason. I can’t live like that.”

“hate to inform you all but the biggest role in Detroit’s downhill slide was forced busing and no one except me ever mentions it”

That “Socialist/Marxist/Demorat Program” did damage throughout the country. And now we get to see the “final solution” in places like Detroit, Washington DC, you pick the city. People with the economic ability to move away from this crap did as fast as they could as you pointed out. The idea that you could force people of different ethnic and more importantly economic circumstances to “integrate” in this fashion was a loony idea from the get-go. It dragged everyone down to the lowest common denominator. The bums won, but it looks like they got the booby prize.

“Portland, OR has been run by Dems forever, likewise Seattle.”

And you think these two cities are proof that the RATS can run a city?

“Republican mayors would have been more willing to cut city employment and services, cut taxes, and encouraged business to stay.”

The last Republican Mayor of Detroit left office in January of 1962. After a couple of white RAT mayors, they elected Coleman Young who was there for twenty years. He is mostly responsible for what has happened there, at least from the standpoint of the kind of government that has been practiced.
