Pop diva, actress and producer Jennifer Lopez is developing a lesbian-themed hour-long drama for ABC Family, the network that brought us a positive portrayal of a gay teen on Pretty Little Liars.
The thus far untitled series is about a lesbian couple, a cop and a private school teacher, whose world is upended when they take in a wayward teen girl and add her to their full house of one biological son and adopted teen twins (one a boy and one a girl), according to Deadline.
Star of movies including The Wedding Planner, Monster-In-Law and Out of Sight and a guest star on television shows including Will and Grace and How I Met Your Mother, Lopez intends to guest star on her series, according to Deadline.
Also attached to executive produce is Simon Fields (Lopez's partner at Nuyorican Productions), Greg Gugliotta (Beautiful Girl) and out actor, director and producer Peter Paige (Queer as Folk).
ABC Family is fastracking the series, according to Deadline. Maybe we can help speed the process with some casting suggestions! I'm fairly certain their both busy with projects but my pick fantasy pick would be Julie Benz as the cop and Kimberly Elise as the teacher.
Whoa, this has never been tried before.
No doubt it’ll be a smash.
Just so long as they are the hot lesbians. I don't want to see a single flannel shirt on the show.
I come for pictures!
I’ll have to tune in to that....not!
Sounds hideous regardless of their orientation.
Taco flavored kisses?
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS also featured a teen having a sexual relationship with her teacher (statutory rape).
Family channel? Riiiight.
Ditto. Great minds / twisted minds think alike!
The below is really making me long for the good old days. Do not like the sound of this show, “The New Normal”. Seems engineered to make minors accept new facts of life. Sigh.
“Family focused shows prominently featuring same-sex couples seem to be on the rise these days.
In addition to Modern Family on ABC, NBC has The New Normal set to premiere this fall. That comedy focuses on two gay men who enlist the help of a woman to serve as a surrogate for their child.
With the family element mentioned in the description, Lopez’ ABC Family project sounds like it could be a good fit for the cable network, especially when factoring the involvement of the teen, which may appeal to the channel’s frequently targeted younger audience.”

What’s so ‘Family’ about girl on girl?
If this is supposed to be the “new normal” I’ll take the asylum instead.
>>Whats so Family about girl on girl?<<
Twins?
Right, and what is so family about 2 gay men hiring a surrogate to make them a child?(NBC “family” drama “The New Normal” airing for teens this fall). This is becoming macabre.
“If this is supposed to be the new normal Ill take the asylum instead.”
I’m with you.
People are always shocked to find out gays make up less than 5% of the population, instead of the 25-50% that popular culture has led them to believe.
No diesel dykes, no fatties, no flannel shirts and it might be halfway palatable for 10 minutes. Beyond that I'll be bored to tears by their "issues" which is what the show will be about. Probably the younger generations lap this mindless stuff up
Right, the “one in ten” was a deliberate lie, engineered by the PR people for LGBTQ. Some polls show them at 1-2 %.
J Ho gonna lose her street cred with this non-straight drama
Of course it is. Kind of like the way the 70s TV show "Maude" featured her having an abortion, in order to get folks to start accepting it. After that show, there were a lot of shows that had a character thinking about having an abortion. They didn't, for the most part, but having the 'choice' was always seen as being a 'good thing'.
