More suburban Jews turning to the Republican Party
Daily Herald ^ | 7/8/12 | Kerry Lester

Standing at a Skokie Holiday Inn before a table full of “Obama! Oy Vey!” buttons, Anita Ashe and Ellen Warsaw had a strikingly similar story to tell. The women, both Skokie residents, were born and raised in an environment where voting Democratic was as natural for their families as the Friday Shabbat dinners that were a regular part of their Jewish faith. Despite that political history, Ashe in recent years has found herself attending events sponsored by he Chicago Chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition after becoming “more and more conservative as I read more and get perspectives on the issue.”

...maybe the time has come for each citizen to do his part, mature in the process and be more dedicated to the society?

Please, don't fall down that slippery slope of an argument. It's the same thinking that the Left has been using to promote Obamacare's individual mandate!

I bet more democrats rejected the 19th amendment than Republicans.

You're probably right. The vote in the U.S. Senate by party was posted by rmlew at # 64 in this thread.

I'll try to find the same breakdown in the House vote and get it to you if I can do it.

Jews found that even when they worked hard, earned money, and achieved academically, they were denied entry to universities (this was up to the 1950s) and denied entry to hotels, clubs, and even kept from purchasing homes in states like CN.

CN? What state is that? Or do you mean NC as in North Carolina?

Maybe I meant to write CT as in Connecticut.

“A number of Jewish immigrants from Russia are trending Republican because the ‘Rats under Obama are reminding them of what they left behind.”

I hope they spread the word...

why are so many jew socially liberal? It doesn’t make any sense.

I believe some Jews may feel a disconnect with the value of rugged individualism which is at the core of much of the conservative philosophy. Their culture puts a higher value on community resources and extended family relationships.

As a personal example, I'm as WASP, and my first wife was Jewish. While neither we nor or family never had any religious debates or issues, I was not preprared for the strife which would be caused by our cultural differences. Shortly after our wedding, we discussed buying furniture for our first apartment. My wife assumed that her father would be coming along, since with his experience in such matters he could find better stores and haggle for a better price.

We argued at length over this, and ultimately reached a compromise - he would come with us to shop for our living room furnniture, but I'd be damned if I would sleep and conceive my future family in a bedroom that had been essentially chosen by my father-in-law!

So, to some extent, I think this cultural ethic of community and extended-family reliance lends itself more to liberal than conservative philosophies.

To add to your narrative, having a long history of being a persecuted ethnic minority, they’ve also felt an affinity to American blacks who are mostly Democrat. (That’s a whole other irony, since Republicans have historically done FAR more for blacks than Democrats who kept them enslaved one way or another. A real shame that they believe the liberal propaganda to the contrary.)

Correct! And don't get me started on that...

Where there's a shell, there's a way.

25 years ago, we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, and Bob Hope.
Today we have Obama, no cash, and no hope!

If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears.

Or you can get raw with these strings.

How about this gamechanger from America's Got Talent (which they SHOULD have won).

Either way, the violin is sweet yet lethal.

Do it!

You coulda compromised with the furniture maven getting the living room suite for you wholesale, while you carved the bedroom suite out of logs yourself with a chain saw :-)

That practically did happen after we bought our first house. Me and my trusty hammers, saws, etc. etc. were kept busy for quite some time!

The Jewish Conservative Movement and Reform Movement rabbinical schools were infiltrated by the Palestinian agenda in the form of white Marxists. Most there were useful idiots who have been made to believe that their enemies need their help! Jews like to help those who need help. They ignore the fact that the Palestinians have been given enough money to make each and every Palestinian a millionaire. The liberal Jewish leaders have forgotten that they themselves are still at great risk in this world. They have taken their congregants down the garden path on the Middle East situation and on the homosexual agenda, promoted by pretty much the same people. A good proportion of the God-fearing Jewish Orthodox movement has still retained an understanding of who is friend and who enemy, what makes sense and what does not. Because of their steady diet of NY Times and NPR and listening to Kumbaya delusional rabbis and academics, 64% of Jews still plan to vote for Obama, their clear enemy. Mental derangement, brain-washed absurdity, but the NY Times and NPR will not breathe a word of that truth.

“A number of Jewish immigrants from Russia are trending Republican....”

Wonderful news!”

Those who lived under Soviet tyranny are today conservative. They appreciate Western freedom. They lived the horror of the 100 year Communist experiment and want nothing ever to do with Marxism or socialism ever again. Ditto for the Russians in Israel.

Muslim strategists infiltrated U.S. prisons and inner cities and brainwashed Blacks into joining Islam, even though Islam are the biggest sellers of Blacks into slavery and are African slaveowners. Blacks and Jews have a natural affinity, but once Islamic countries paid for the propaganda campaign to convert the criminal elements and other young Blacks to thinking they are Muslims, Blacks were convinced through lies to abandon their alliance with Jews, the very group that was in the forefront of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement.

Ironically, both Rand and Hayek were themselves Jewish

A correction. Hayek was Roman Catholic. (He was also the first cousin of Ludwig Wittengenstein.) You may have been thinking of Ludwig von Mises, Hayek's mentor, who was Jewish.

Then there are the various and sundry factors derived from the unique history of the Jews. In Old Europe, Jews were often a special class who looked to the throne for protection from the anti-Semitic rabble and the pogroms (“If only the Czar knew!”). This gives Jews a long heritage of viewing statism as a survival strategy.

That says a lot. Given that the anti-Semitic rabble was Christian, it also says that lots of Jews see a secularized society as a survival strategy.

"Once burned, twice shy." Lots of Jews have seen their ancestors "burned." Consequently, they associate muscular Christianity with a potential threat to the Jewish people. People who have learned the history of European anti-Semitism are going to be predisposed to the Howard Zinn take on American history, as it confirms their impression that the (potentially) "anti-Semitic rabble" are still up to their old tricks.

Consequently, they see a watered-down Christianity as diminishing a potential threat to them and their people, and their descendents (i.e., kids). As Mr. Goldberg indicated, there are other reasons why so many Jewish people see a secular society as the ideal. (For some, it may be as simple as "this is America's promise", as they see it.)

So it's no wonder that the big doubt-maker is Christian Zionism. Christian Zionism shows that it's possible to be both a muscular Christian and pro-Semitic.
