How Tom Cruise is to Scientology what Mitt Romney is to Mormonism
Odd Onion ^ | Michael Wolff

Posted on 07/10/2012 2:39:24 PM PDT by Enosh

*Snip*

It is another point of subtle confusion that both Churchs are – to their advantage, but perhaps even more to their peril – bound to a famous son. And they each, to a considerable degree, take on the character of their most famous adherent. Curiously, they also risk taking on aspects of the other’s big name. Weird and frightening Tom and robotic Mitt seem like generic cult characters. If cult-like religions speak to each other, it may be, in an ultimate conspiracy, that the Mormon leaders, now more than ever fearful of cult backlash, called up their Scientology counterparts and begged for an immediate Cruise capitulation to Holmes and an end to the tabloid coverage of culty rituals and dogma.

Conversely, this demonstration of Cruise’s strict adherence to Scientology’s interests might easily spread to questions about Romney’s allegiance with regard to Mormonism. (In 1960, John F Kennedy had to specifically disavow his fealty to the Pope.)

Here’s the thing: for a supposedly religious country, we really do feel extremely queasy about secret practices, mystical beliefs (whether involving aliens or not), and unfamiliar mumbo jumbo. It is true that, so far, Tom Cruise’s career has survived his eccentricities – they perhaps have given his white-bread character a certain weird élan. And it is true that we are not yet talking directly about the peculiarities and cockamamie creed of Mormonism, avoiding this subject for reasons of tact and civility.

But I suspect we are thinking about it, constantly.

L. Ron Hubbard was a flim flam man of the 20th Century when he started Scientology. At least he didn’t remotely claim to be “Christian.” They just debunk persons of their money and souls.

Joseph Smith likewise was the 19th Century’s flim flam man. As bogus as they come. He comitted adultery with other men’s wives in the name of Christianity and by that false Christianity robbed men of their souls. I am certain the cult has picked a few pockets of the naive.

So, it is an excellent comparison. Both were flim flam artists that dabbled in “fiction” passed off as “scripture” or “scripture like” material. The similarities are creepy.

Tom Cruise and Mitt Romney are both poster boys for religious flim flam artists!

The lds-org denies that Jesus is the Creator, that everything was created THROUGH Him, BY Him and FOR Him.

Same as Barack Hussein Obama. Spread the TRUTH about Obama's religious beliefs. He has said that Jesus is a "historic figure" but not the only way to "salvation" (if there is any anylife at all).

"... commit political suicide."

Both McCain and Romney fit that bill.

“How Tom Cruise is to Scientology what Mitt Romney is to Mormonism...... and Barack Hussein Obama is to Islam.”

I disagree. Mr. Obama is a terrible person with bad liberal/marxist ways (too numerous to list) and should NEVER be POTUS. And he does “coddle” Islamists. However, although I do not think he is a real Christian, I am certain he is NOT a dedicated Muslim. At worst he leans Muslim. IF he were as dedicated a Muslim as Cruise is a Scientologist and Romney is a Mormon...it would be more apparent.

No one should support Obama. However, not solely because of his possible Islamic beliefs. Romney is a clear cut Mormon Cultist. IF you want Salt Lake City to have control over the White House...then vote for Romney....he will be fulfilling a dream of the flim flamer Joseph Smith. Smith planned to run for POTUS.

I must’ve missed all of the anti-Harry Reid threads opposing him as leader of the Senate because of his Mormonism. No one in the media gave a damn about that liberal Mormon who's in line of ascendancy for the presidency.

I also wonder if these same Soros funder “Christian” leaders will sign a letter to the press on Romney’s behalf...

Censoring Questions about Obama’s Religion
Gulag Bound ^ | August 27, 2010 | Cliff Kincaid
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2578664/posts

In a major liberal initiative to curtail discussion of President Obama’s religious identity, over 70 Christian leaders and denominational heads have signed a letter saying that questions about the religious philosophy of the President of the United States should be ignored and suppressed by the major media.

The letter demands that the media “offer no further support or airtime to those who misrepresent and call into question the President’s Christian faith.”

Smith planned to run for POTUS.

He not only planned to run for President, he did so.

He was killed during the middle of the campaign.

There should be equal outrage about Mormonists attaining the highest offices of the land, not just one guy.

The media plays off of Mormon cult talk to wipe up hysteria only when Romney’s name is discussed.

Harry Reid’s Mormonism was never a concern of the Pravda Media.

Barack Obama’s pretend-Christianity was never a concern of the Pravda Media.

There are plenty of reasons to not support Romney for President. Mormonism is low on the scale, especially considering there is a red diaper doper baby raised in an anti-American household and under the wing of a black bigot who had his own fake Christian cult.

Or is that not what you are really concerned with? Are you really concerned that their kooky religions be excluded from any criticism?

Nahhh..I don't mind the criticism. Healthy criticism seems a hallmark of a strong society.

I just was overdue for a rant- I'm fed up with those who would vote against Romney because he's a Morman. That's all.

Your statement is not true! There are plenty of reasons to support Romney.

What is true, however, is that there are plenty of reasons to not support Obama!

“Shouldn’t you be out giving campaign speeches for Obama.”

Should’nt you be out on a “Mission Trip” for the Mormon’s?

Of course no one should vote for Obama. No conservative should ever vote for him, his record of wrong is so long to be written in one short message. However, Romney’s record isn’t any better. They are BOTH bad. There is NO lesser of two evils here. Neighter should receive conservative support.
