America's coming civil war -- makers vs. takers
Fox News ^ | 7-12-12 | Arthur Herman

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Those were Abe Lincoln’s words in his first inaugural in 1861, as America was running headlong into civil war. Now we’re a house divided again and another civil war is coming, with the 2012 election as its Gettysburg.

Call it America’s coming civil war between the Makers and the Takers.

On one side are those who create wealth, America’s private sector–the very ones targeted by President Obama’s tax hikes announced Monday.

On the other are the public employee unions; left-leaning intelligentsia who see the growth of government as index of progress; and the millions of Americans now dependent on government through a growing network of government transfer payments, from Medicaid and Social Security to college loans and corporate bailouts and handouts (think GM and Solyndra).

No it has nothing to do with civil war and everything to do with conquest and self-destruction of American productiveity.

The Federal Government is shutting us all down, convirting a larger and larger share of our population into government dependents rather than producers and that of course is unsupportable for any length of time.

We have no way to pay back the debts now owed except thou devaluation of the currency which is an additional confensatory tax shutting down even more of what is left of the American economy.

This is not a civil war between the makers and takers this is a collapse of both with the collapse of the takers.

You can’t convince so many so depended upon what they can steal from you to stop stealing. You give a man a fish every day and sooner or later even if hes a fisherman hes going to forget how to fish for himself.

If there is to be a war it will have to be a war of separation to restore competition among the States for the producers. Thus putting all States in a position in which they can not afford to simply buy votes at the expense of the productive bit of their population.

” - - - link these two regions - - - “

Highways, and rivers join people together. Thus, any boundary defined by a highway is doomed to fail.

The Regions, IMHO, would be formed on a contiguous geographic basis IF there was also a unifying economic benefit to all.

For example, the States that the Mississippi River runs through would connect the Great lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. This would make a great geographic and economic Region.

The desire for individual Liberty, or Federal Entitlement Slavery, as decided by each State Constitutional Convention would determine admission into an economically viable Region.

Regions that would choose to retain a low level of Personal Liberty and a high level of Entitlement Tax Slavery would rise or fall on the Financial Markets with NO assistance from any Region with no Entitlement Tax Slavery.

There is plenty of time, as 1.) The US Treasury Bonds are still preferred to Gold or Oil as the Standard World Safe Haven for Wealth: and 2.) With low interest rates on US Bonds the US National Debt will not double soon.

Anyway, be thinking about this, as the USA is obviously a Nation in decline, and we need to have a plan ready to go BEFORE the US National Debt Bubble bursts.

BTW, in the Region that I will move to there will be a Congress/Board of Directors who will throw the President/CEO in jail for ANY violation of the Regional Constitution/Charter.

Bad pun coming, but I can’t resist: “The Jury is still out on whether or not a Supreme Court is needed.”

” - - - That’s 34 states, not 32.”

I stand corrected! Thank you!

As I mentioned above, now is the time to plan as the bursting of the National Debt Bubble could break as quickly as the September, 2008 Bankruptcy bursting of the FHA, Freddie and Fannie Bubbles.

There will be shooting and there will be blood. It's the only way out of the mess we are in.

A protracted civil war in the US would eventually grow perceptions of a weakened country, and THEN you would possibly see certain parties interested in taking a bite of the apple. I do think the "takers", as it were, would be the ones to allow a foreign force into the US at that point, because in a protracted civil war the power base of the takers (cities) would be decimated.

A protracted civil war in the US isn't possible. The cities' food and water supplies would be denied.

“So Social Security recipients, who have been real producers all their life are now labeled takers? If that’s the best that they can come up with, we are sunk.”

Technically they are as the government lied to every last one of them about having that money stored away for them in seperate accouts.

That would have been the case if Bush’s social security reform had taken place but its not now.

The real “makers” are those who design, manufacture, build and repair with their own minds and hands. The makers have been outlawed in many ways.

You’re witnessing and will experience a depression caused by political correctness used as a tool of wrongful competition. The depression, which has hardly begun, was also caused by many false accusers (including exaggerations, implications, uses of illegal/unconstitutional laws, etc.), may their houses rot.

Have fun. Enjoy the slide.

“So Social Security recipients, who have been real producers all their life are now labeled takers? If that’s the best that they can come up with, we are sunk.”

Good point.

Might I suggest a “re-phrasing” of an old axiom?

There is no denying that a growing portion of Americans are now living on entitlements.

But could they be divided into two sub-categories, those being:
1. The “deserving” entitlees, as distingushed from
2. The “UNdeserving entitlees”?

Conservatives had better decide to recognize and make use of this distinction. For if they choose to attack the deserving entitlees as well as the undeserving entitlees, they are destined to lose the ideological battle.

(Full disclosure: This year I, too, became an “entitlee”, retiring from the railroad after a 32+ year career. As it was, I stayed more than two years beyond the point at which almost everyone else leaves, and might have stayed longer if some health issues had not intervened...)

America's coming civil war -- makers vs. takers

I don't see one coming anytime soon. Were there real momentum towards one, Congress would be crafting Compromises deliberately designed to allay it. That's what happened before the real thing.

Remember: the impending bankruptcy of Social Security has been seriously discussed for the last thirty years. The funds are still being sent out and they're still clearing.

If the tax cuts expire the “people” will be told it’s the republicans’ fault because they wanted to keep the tax cuts for the rich.

So Social Security recipients, who have been real producers all their life are now labeled takers? If that’s the best that they can come up with, we are sunk.

The way I think of it is that everyone on Social Security now (who actually worked for a living) was involuntary forced to participate in a government-run Ponzi scheme. Now that they are receiving benefits, they are on the top of the pyramid, while all incoming young people are involuntarily forced to participate in the Ponzi scheme coming in at the bottom. The Ponzi scheme has to end sometime, and somebody (actually - almost everybody) is going to get burned.

Welcome to Wal Mart. Will you need a buggy today? As an added plus, you will be eligible for an employee discount.

I agree with this article. We are most certainly headed on a course to civil war. However it does not mention the option of a Constitutional Convention. The framers included the CC as a last ditch effort before civil war and replacement of the current government. We need to follow their directions and attempt a convention first.

I have read through the thread and in my opinion we must clarify who are the "takers" and who are the "makers". The takers are NOT people on social security. The takers are government workers, period. The makers are in the private sector who generate all wealth in this country.

One mistake all conservatives continue to make is referring to Private sector jobs and public sector jobs.

Why is this a mistake? Because there is NO SUCH THING AS A PUBLIC SECTOR JOB! They are only "jobs" to the individual. Economically they are the equivalent of a huge light bill.

IMO, we must start repeating that economically, the only real jobs are in the private sector. The public sector is nothing but huge bills that must be paid. This is why I prefer to call the two sides the "Paychecks" and the "Bills". Public sector employees are the bills and we all know what happens when the bills are bigger than the paychecks.
