Family makes good on dying family member’s last wish: Leave $500 tip

A dying man's last wish was to make someone else's day. After his death, the family of Aaron Collins fulfilled his wish to go have pizza and leave their server a $500 tip.

The story surfaced on the blog Fark: 30-year-old Collins, a computer technician who died July 7, had no money to make his wish come true. So his family raised the cash through a website after just a few days and then made good on his request. At Puccini's restaurant in Lexington, Ky., the family lunched on pizza, and then presented one very lucky waitress with $500.

Bet he wasn’t a democrat.

Better yet, the donors weren't dems, or they might have sent the money to Obama.

Sorry, I think I remember Jesus saying something about doing good deeds quietly.

Maybe this was more of an 'atonement' than a good deed.

Regardless to the publicity (and THAT may also have been a request from the dying man), it was an act of good.

It's much better than asking his family to strap on a bomb and go eat pizza.

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.

They weren't practicing their righteousness, they were fulfilling the last wish of a DEAD MAN.

If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

He's already dead, so technically this occurred after he got to heaven(or hell).

Yeah... but I'm pretty sure he was referring to those UP and ABOUT and LIVING. Those on their death bed pretty much are limited in their options.

For all YOU BOTH know, It may have been the DONORS who insisted the event be 'filmed' so that they could put it on YOUTUBE (and make some money back).

Please consider that.

If they went there and the waitress was terrible, would have have wondered...”is today the right day?”

People do “in lieu of flowers donate to [charity of choice]” all the time. Why not to the pizza waitress tip fund?

Well, no doubt they did the right thing fulfilling the request of a dead man. And it was a good act of charity, as well.

My only question is why they had to notify the media, and make a public spectacle out of it. I think it would have been much better just to do it quietly.

but if they hid Aaron’s light under a bushel, they would not have gotten enough publicity to collect over $10,000 to give to other waiters and waitresses, would they?

Some people get inspired to start some kind of perpetuating memeorial that keep alive the mmeory of their dead loved ones. I think it is great. I will leave a big tip for some waitress because of Aaron’s idea!

This reminds me of those ginormous meals condemned men order up before going to the gallows.

Geeze, he dies penniless, the family has probably been supporting him for years... they’re struggling to cover funeral expenses.. and he adds one more dingbat request... I can only imagine the eye rolling that went on.

I agree with your objection. The other objections on this thread are knee-jerk stupid.

They should’ve just left the tip and let it be.
