The State Department's top official for Africa this week defended the decision not to designate Boko Haram as a "foreign terrorist organization" (FTO) -- but then used the term "terrorist organization" in reference to the Nigerian Islamist group, CNSNews.com reports. A Nigerian Christian leader criticized the move, saying failure to designate Boko Haram as an FTO emboldened the group and signaled that its targeting of Christians was acceptable. The administration on June 21 listed three Boko Haram leaders as "specially designated global terrorists" (SDGTs) but stopped short of listing the group as an FTO under U.S. law, a step some Republican lawmakers have been urging. Appearing before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Tuesday, Johnnie Carson of the Bureau of African Affairs spoke about the decision. Questioned by Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), Carson said most members of Boko Haram were only interested in discrediting the government -- then said the group's "emergence as a terrorist organization" was irrespective of whether there was a Christian or Muslim leader in the country and that there would be a "reaction" as long as "the social, economic problems exist in the North." Smith disagreed with Carson's assessment, saying Boko Haram had "at its core a radical Islamic position." Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for much of the ongoing violence in Nigeria, which has increasingly taken the form of an anti-Christian jihad in the group's campaign to promote sharia (Islamic law) and oppose "Western education."
Another home run by the slugs at the State Dept!
U.N. Rights Body Defies U.S. with Right to Peace Resolution Giving Legitimacy to Terror

GENEVA, July 5 The U.N.s top human rights body defied the U.S. today by adopting a Cuban-led right to peace resolution that endorses resistance against foreign occupation, for the first time granting U.N. Human Rights Council legitimization of the terminology used by Middle East extremists to justify terrorist attacks against Americans and Israelis.
Initiated by Cuba, the resolutions co-sponsors included Syria, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Belarus, China, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua.
The Geneva-based human rights group UN Watch expressed serious concerns over the text.
The U.N. was founded on moral clarity, said UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer, yet today the Syrian regime, which denies its people the right to life, was allowed to join with Iran, North Korea and other tyrannies to cynically present themselves as champions of peace.
Its a sick joke that mocks the victims of these murderous regimes, and the majority should never have gone along with the farce. Todays resolution is eerily similar to the mass slogan used in 1984, George Orwells totalitarian dystopia: War is Peace.
The vote result was 34 in favour, with only the US voting no. Abstaining were Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Italy, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain and Switzerland.
The U.S. described the resolutions call to draft a new U.N. declaration on the right to peace as divisive and detrimental to efforts to achieve peace, saying it would sow division and embroil the council in contentious negotiations. (Click here for the prepared U.S. statement.)
The new program is estimated by the U.N. to cost over $300,000 to implement.
Didn’t they do “A Whiter Shade of Pale?”
Boko Haram is part of Al Quaida. But then, so is the US administration and the Democratic Party.
(Sect attack claim complicates Nigeria crisis).......and (Obama's Muslim advisers have gone so far as to block Middle Eastern Christians' access to the White house) Barack Obama is shelling for someone and it ain't for freedom...............
Crossposting this to TM.

At their best with Robin Trower on guitar. He continued the haunting harmonic tradition on Bridge of Sighs.
A question aside - “bayouranger” - Are you telling us to hold our anger at bay, or do you patrol the bayou?
Ah, but nuttin' to see here; just move along!!!
Why does the State Department not list Boko Haram as a terror group? Well, they both share common goals:
“Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for much of the ongoing violence in Nigeria, which has increasingly taken the form of an anti-Christian jihad in the group’s campaign to promote sharia (Islamic law) and oppose “Western education.”
A little of both, for now.
It’s tough keeping watch but all things come to an end.
It’s really gutwrenching to live with a freaking rogue government.
