Yesterday morning Ed tagged a Newsweek article that tried to make hay out of the fact that Palin may not receive an invitation to speak at the GOP convention. Ed pointed out that this may not actually be a big deal, both to Palin and the grassroots, and I agree with comments made below the post by RBJ and Skwor that it’s likely just Newsweek trying to create controversy out of nothing substantive.
However, this is where RBJ, Skwor and a great deal of the Hot Air viewership and I may split our views. While I am not a fan of Mitt Romney’s candidacy, and think he is far too moderate in almost every way, I am not disappointed that Palin may not speak at the convention. In fact, I’m quite pleased.

However, I think the negatives of such an appearance outweigh the net positives for those whose sole electoral goal is to get Obama out of office — including potentially scaring off moderate voters who are open to voting for Romney and giving the liberal media the opportunity to attach Romney to the largely unpopular Palin.

So called moderates are one of the GOP’s main problems.
It is rather simple. The GOP does not want her or the people she represents there. They believe they can get enough squishies from the middle to make up for the Religious Right and others they are driving away. They figure they either win with Romney, or can blame his defeat on the Religious Right and start the divorce proceedings.
A corrupt Republican Party has no use for its founding principle of the “loyal opposition”, but now deplore such solidarity, favoring a socialist at the top of their ticket.
Just think what they will give us next time, given our willingness to cave, comply and cooperate with their obvious, closed fist strike to our own jaw.
We are all pacifists now, and the two parties are one.
I suspect Palin will ultimately get a speaking spot. But, if it turns out that she is indeed snubbed... well, what can I add? It will be the final, symbolic clincher, that the Party has irretrievably moved away from the reasons I’ve voted for and supported it all my voting life. It will be the divorce decree.

Oh, com'on! She outdrew McPain quite frequently during the 2008 race whereever she goes! 10,000 - 30,000 at speech events!
She tells it like it is! That's what scaring the "moderates"!
And the "moderates" are mainly the problem with the GOP!
Get real! It would be a BIG mistake NOT to invite her!
How many people (including moderates) have heard that Sarah has gone not only after the Dems but her own party as well, throughout her political career? How many have actually heard Sarah speak openly about the corruption and cronyism in both parties or that she resigned from a position under Republican Governor Frank Murkowski Admistration because they wouldn’t hold a fellow Republican accountable for corruption? How many moderates know many national politicians on both sides of the aisle today that has actually called out wrongdoing in their own party consistently? The problem is that Sarah was never properly introduced to the public other than media narratives hoisted up on her because they wanted Obama to win and because they hate a beautiful pro-life women (jealously) when the NYT ran a piece on Sarah’s Sept 3 speech on cronyism and her economic plan they marveled at how new and refreshing her ideas were....

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.
Guess he wouldn't fit in with today's "Republican" Party.
It would be an unforgivable insult to a large segment of the GOP. Can the party afford to lose loyalists?

I would like to scare moderates right into the DemonRAT party and to dilute it with their wishy-washy, namby-pamby, mealy-mouthed minions.
We can do more with just ONE Allen West than we could with a whole boatload of “moderates”.

Was Palin even a part of the primary process anywhere? An active part, not just “endorsing” a candidate here and there?
She decided to become a pundit. So, are Rush, Hannity, Levin speaking at the convention? She has removed herself from the process up to this point. Why should she land a speaking gig now?

The GOP-E/RINO gang doesn’t want the people to hear the truth, as Sarah tells it.
It’s all about the money and power, not freedom or the Constitution p, with them.
They’re worried thar Sarah might “go rogue” and bust their chops in front of their cronies, and, she probably would...which would suit me to a tee.
The establishment pubbies don’t like any form of controversy, it scares them.
It looks -at this time- like Romney will be the nominee, and I will vote for him for two reasons...he’ll be easier to fight on the issues than Obama because he wont have the blind loyalty of the MSM behind him, and he can’t play the race card.
Also, the next president will get to pick two judges for SCOTUS, and judges he would appoint, hopefully, would not be radicals like Obama would, and has; if Obama wins, we might end with Eric Holder as Supreme Court Justice.
Romney is a RINO, but given our choices, I’d rather have him than a criminal, radical, racist. Romney is not as arrogant, and at least cringes when confronted.
