Rand Paul Asks Father's Supporters Not to Give Up on GOP
New American ^ | July 21, 2012 | Joe Wolverton, II

Despite his father's invitation to the Republican Convention apparently having been lost in the mail, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is encouraging the army of Ron Paul supporters not to give up on the GOP.

As The New American reported at the time, on June 7, the younger Paul told Sean Hannity that while his "first choice had always been [his] father," now that the nominating process is over he would be campaigning for former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney.

During the interview, Rand Paul recounted a 30-minute meeting he had with Governor Romney in Washington, D.C. recently. During this meeting, Paul reports, he and Romney discussed many issues important to himself and his father.

Finally, Senator Paul told Hannity that he believes that with Mitt Romney there is "a lot of kinship on those issues" that are important to Ron Paul and his "legion of young supporters."

Many of his supporters are anti-war liberal democrats who probably never really planned on voting for him in the general.

Well, I’m anti stupid wars, but I’m no liberal nor a Democrat. Haven’t seen anyone say what the goal is in Iraq or Afghanistan. Saying we fight a global war on terror (terror being a tactic, and thus, incapable of surrender) means the government can start a war at any time and continue it perpetually. We are sacrificing our good men and women for what exactly?

Per the article at New American:

“The first issue mentioned by Senator Paul was the audit of the Federal Reserve. Saying that he and his father believe that there should be more transparency and more congressional oversight of the unconstitutional central bank, Paul went on to say that “this [the audit of the Fed] is something Governor Romney was supportive of throughout his campaign.”

Those loyal to his father and to the cause of auditing or abolishing the Federal Reserve know that not only has Mitt Romney not supported this critical plank of the constitutional platform, but in fact he has explicitly spoken out against it.

“I think Ben Bernanke [the chairman of the Federal Reserve] is a student of monetary policy; he’s doing as good a job as he thinks he can do. I’m not going to spend my time going after Ben Bernanke. I’m not going to spend my time focusing on the Federal Reserve,” Romney has observed.

Oy! Gov. Romney speaks with a forked tongue!

I said "many" NOT "all". I'm sure you can agree with me on what was said in my comment.

Of course there are legit Libertarians and legit Constitutionalists who support the man.

But there are many anti-war, liberal democrats who also "supported" him in the GOP Primaries but doubtful they were really planning on voting for him in the general.

I actually searched, today, to see how I can register as an Independent in my county. I am SICK to death of how this country is headed (and frikkin’ SICK of the RNC sending me pablum through the mail, which I shred, and email, which I delete.....and the Rebubics (thanks Mark Levin) left me long ago. ESPECIALLY during McCain as being the pick. I may vote for Romney .....but it will be the lesser of two evils....like I did for McCain (because of Sarah). I’m SICK of having to make the “lesser of two evils” choice!!!!!

Sadly, I’m where you are now. I have been a hard working Republican since 1980. I always hit the streets and my check book. They left me in the dust. I’ll be watching to see if real conservatives (not Chris Christie) have a voice at the convention, and to see who exactly is the VP choice; expecting nothing. I am so sorry for my daughter & any kids she may have.

The party has plainly spoken. We conservatives are asked to kiss off, as “they” are moving left. Obviously. We can’t influence the party, and we can’t go Third Party without a competent, experienced soul with broad influence. America is changed.

My mother worked sooooo hard to get RID of the damned ‘DixiCrats’ where we live....including the ones that changed over and ‘claiming’ to be ‘Republicans’. It makes me sick. We deal with the ‘Dixicrats’ even to this DAY, here.

LOVE you , Mom. I poo poo’d you, but now I’ve awakened!

We were NEVER about ‘race’....we were about ‘responsibility’.

I haven't forgotten the days when we were losing 2000 soldiers a month in Vietnam under LBJ, a Democrat - comparatively a hundred times worse than Iraq and Afghanistan put together.

On balance, the Democrat record is worse in all regards: politics, freedom, war, ethics, morality, economics. It's a no-contest, no-brainer decision.

Many of his supporters are anti-war liberal democrats who probably never really planned on voting for him in the general.

Most of them come from an economics/small government perspective, but are oblivious of the threats from Communism and Islam. Each time I talk to them, I am forced to remind them that they need to talk about the threats from Communists as much as they talk about the Federal Reserve and that Ron Paul is flat out wrong when he describes Muslims as victims. After all, Islam is anti-liberty as well. Many Ron Paul supporters are naive about Islam and do not know how to answer this point.

Pssst. It’s not only Ron Paul supporters that have given up on the GOP.

I doubt Rand is going to have much luck getting libertarian leaning Constitutionalists to vote for the socialist Ronmey.

The gop has been unofficially telling conservatives to go to hell since at least 1988. The only change is that it’s now official gop policy.

Rand Paul has little sway with his father’s supporters. His support of willard is looked at more as an act of betrayal than anything.
