In the 1980s, it was Afghanistan to which international Islamic fighters came, helping the mujahedeen successfully take on the Soviet army and its puppet regime in Kabul. Then came Bosnia in the 1990s and Iraq in the 2000s, in both of which veteran jihadists fought a sectarian war on behalf of outgunned Sunni minorities. In 2012, theyre flocking to Syria
With funding from private organizations in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait, they are making their way across the frontiers from Iraq and Jordan, hooking up with opposition elements in Syria and taking the battle to Damascus and the heart of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
Money from Qatar is helping finance the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood and the fledgling Free Syrian Army (FSA). And United States CIA operatives are reportedly helping distribute weapons and matériel to the mainstream opposition forces. However, the international jihadists, many of them so-called Salafists linked to al-Qaeda, have agendas of their own that dont stop at forcing Mr. al-Assad from office. To them, the real target is Shiism, the religion of Iran, and the crescent of Shia forces that Tehran has promoted that stretch from Iran to the Mediterranean.

“WHY is both Russia and China supporting Assad?”
My real point on the issue was that when it comes right down to it, neither country wants to defend the border with Iran, making support of Syria’s Assad an issue of pure self-interest. Iran takes Syria, Iraq is squeezed into submission, and we are back to the days of the original conflicts of the early 20th century and before, but with an Iran in a much more militaristic setup and ambition.
He’ll make it up to Putin post election, when he’ll have more flexibility as he earlier promised. Somehow, though, I don’t think Putin seeks any bows or curtsies from Bambi. Thinking he better dazzle him with complete unilateral nuclear disarmament or stay home.
“I have listened to and read Bibi’s thoughts since 1980. If he says something publicly, I would probably think thats the answer we are looking for.”
Yea, Bibi has been spot-on in describing the entire situation out there. I remember 20 years ago him saying that the Palestinians were being taught, from Day 1, in their schools that Jews were pigs and that they must be slaughtered.
It was EXPLICITLY stated and agreed to in those “peace deals” that that garbage would stop. It didn’t, at all. And when President Clinton, and then Bush demanded that Israel give up land for peace, their words regarding this issue were silent.
“Hell make it up to Putin post election, when hell have more flexibility as he earlier promised. Somehow, though, I dont think Putin seeks any bows or curtsies from Bambi. Thinking he better dazzle him with complete unilateral nuclear disarmament or stay home.”
God help this country if Obama gets re-elected. If that happens, our best hope would that Putin sees the need for a nuclear US to be able to help him with China, in particular. Because this president has no clue on his own.
Am a little confused because Syria (Assad) is already a vassal of Iran.
Russia and China of course support Iran. Billions of dollars exported to that country in nuclear technology and arms. And of course Iran keeps America in check for Russia and China.
So in a sense, Iran already owns Syria. I also believe Russia supports Assad because they too have a Islam problem and they see the Brotherhood as the real threat.
Plus more. I gotta go to work. Will catch up later. I will give thought to your point.
Oh... like they do here to the Sinaloa Cartel in Arizona ?
Bakaa Valley. Where the Russians moved the chem/bio/nuc weapons that they had sold to Iraq (but not gotten paid for), just prior to the overthrow of Baghdad.
No wonder we are concerned. Besides there was already tons of stuff there. Saddam’s stuff was old. Still very dangerous.
Assad’s decision to give safe haven and training to foreign jihadists fighting against US forces in Iraq has come back to haunt him.
Regardless of who is elected, or re-elected, our best hope, Americas best hope is for Americans to truly turn back to Christ. Without Him, we are relying an men and will ALWAYS be disappointed and betrayed.

I grew up in a Syrian neighborhood. I didn’t know any muslims. They were all Christian or nothing. Great people, it’s shame what evil does.
Best scenario - the two sides fighting for a long time
Russia is right. Just hope they don’t get sucked into the morass. It would be much better for Assad to finish off al these folks in one misty WMD day, made in Iraq.” Let em al burn each others tents. Prayers up for the Christians and Jews that have lived their since a long time ago.
