Updated at 7:40 a.m. ET: At least 13 people died Sunday and another 10 were injured after a pickup truck loaded with passengers veered off the highway and crashed into trees in rural South Texas, authorities said. State troopers and Goliad County sheriff's investigators were investigating the crash. A trooper told KRIS-TV, the NBC affiliate in Corpus Christi, Tex., that it appeared a tire on the truck blew out before the vehicle went off the road and struck two trees. Authorities said they did not immediately know the names and ages of the victims. Advertise | AdChoices A spokeswoman with the Texas Department of Public Safety told NBC News early Monday that the number of those killed in the crash had risen to 13 after two more victims succumbed to their injuries in local hospitals. Vehicle laden with passengers Gerald Bryant, also of the Texas Department of Public Safety, told The Associated Press the dead and wounded were various ages and that he personally saw two young children among the dead at the scene. "This is the most people I've seen in any passenger vehicle, and I've been an officer for 38 years," Bryant said, referring to the chaotic scene. The white 2000 Ford F-250 pickup was heading north on U.S. 59 around 7 p.m. (9 p.m. ET) Sunday when it traveled off the right side of the highway near the community of Berclair in Goliad County, Bryant said. Follow @msnbc_us The 23 people were loaded inside both the truck's cab and bed. Six of those who died were still inside the truck when emergency crews arrived to find the mangled vehicle, Bryant said.

If that is the best you have to offer, you should go away.

Okay, my point is making an “Ellis Island” situation available.

They came here legally because there was an “Ellis Island”to bring them in here as such. You’ve made my point.

Not everyone one who came through Ellis Island was a solid citizen, but at least we had an idea of who they were.Due to current policy and enforcement of federal laws (or lack thereof), you yourself would agree that this is not happening.

[Not so nice] Nice try but sorry, no, the death of any children in this smuggling incident are on the consciousness of their parents or other guardian that brought them along on the border crash.

You want to bring morality into this conversation, then go to Old Mexico and talk Maria, Jose, Juan and Manuel out of voluntarily killing their own children in these border runs.

Anyone arguing for sympathy for these [voluntary] victims in the pickup truck are part of the no-borders-crowd. No borders - into the USA, that is. But not into Mexico from Guatemala....that’s different for sure. Those “immigrants” get their balls handed to them by the Southern Border Mexican Patrols.

“Anyone arguing for sympathy for these [voluntary] victims in the pickup truck are part of the no-borders-crowd.”

No, the children are not voluntary victims.

As for the adults, I reserve the right to feel sorry for people who died terribly, even if they are in a country illegally.

And I oppose illegal immigration. I can talk and chew gum at the same time, too.

I agreee.

I can oppose illegal immigration and still understand why someone would dare try it. This does not make me pro - illegal.

I think if the Feds would do the job the law tells them to do, theis would, hopefully, be a rare occurence.

Do not agree.
The loss of life is tragic and we still can hope for a closed border and a better life in their own country so they do not feel the need to break the law to enter the US. Maybe the countries south of the border (and around the globe)can have their own Declaration/Constition moments?
Let us hope so, so that these incidents are rare.
So I am a dreamer, what would you have me say?
What would we want for all mankind?

Close the border, spread the truth.

Happy trails.

The Mexican citizens are just dying to get into Aztlan you know. I am glad no American Citizens were harmed by these 3rd world interlopers in their absurd attempt to navigate a clown-car packed with 23 friggen people down our highways.

My daughter lives in Goliad. I don’t care for it. To many wanna-be gangbangers there for my tastes. Love the historical stuff there though. :)

I wonder how many forked over good money to have “reliable” transportation to bring them to houston, or whereever their destinantion was.

Pay good money and not get reliable transportation?

Boy, those illegals ripping us off, really got ripped off eh Ms. Monkey?

I have heard/read of so many illegals, dying to get to freedom....but I also know of many who come here to make mischief, and because of their criminal backgrounds, they survive. Any way you look at it, it is a disgrace. For all countries involved.

America should be ashamed eh Ms. Monkey?

Wouldn't you be better off on some La Raza site?

Ya got at least two illegal alien sympathizers on this thread.

I suggest others read this thread so they can see specifically who they are for future reference.

They are really hard to miss.

You have a nasty attitude. I’m not an illegal sympathizer, no matter what your opinion is. You don’t know me well enough to know how I think, what I eat or who I associate with.

Keep your opinions to yourself. If you want clarification, all you have to do is ask instead of making accusations based on your own biases.

There are many reports of illegals dying in enclosed containers, and not just from across the Rio Grande. We need a wall and we need stricter enforcement on the borders, and if necessary, “profiling” to keep the criminals from taking advantage of the “Christian” groups that provide water mules and maps. They are just as criminal as the people they “help.”

No clarifications needed. All comments were based on your own words, not mine.

“Close the border, spread the truth.”

Having sympathy for the dead and wounded in this accident does not mean I don’t want a guarded border and strictly enforced immigration controls.

You’re right, it’s the historical aura that is appealing. Goliad is very small and they have been fighting the military over an old airport they want to use for flight training. They fear the constant noise.

The Missions are wonderful to see, and the ghost stories associated with them, lol.
