A civilian laborer set a fire that caused $400 million in damage to a nuclear-powered submarine because he had anxiety and wanted to get out of work early, Navy investigators said Monday.

Casey James Fury, 24, of Portsmouth, N.H., faces up to life in prison if convicted of two counts of arson in the fire aboard the USS Miami attack submarine while it was in dry dock May 23 and a second blaze outside the sub on June 16.

Fury was taking medications for anxiety and depression and told investigators he set the fires so he could get out of work, according a seven-page affidavit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland.

Why life in prison?

Make him pay back the $400 million damage, that you and I paid.

Thanks to commies in congress, no discrimination against the crazy (now known as ‘mentally ill’) is allowed.

Gotta hire the drugged nutters, the retards, and all the detritus on two feet. Otherwise you are DISCRIMINATING and subject to cruel and unusual punishments.

America is fortunate that such ‘people with disabilities’ haven’t caused a reactor meltdown or a refinery fire.

No PRP without nuke weapons. Prolly NAC Confidential all that is required for a “laborer.”

Any more the contractor was probably forced to hire some of them in order to even be allowed to bid on the work.

I don’t buy his excuse of wanting to get out of work early... Not one bit. I don’t think his meds have anything to do with this, unless he WASN’T taking them at the time, frankly. If you want to get out of work early, you fake an illness, or you just LEAVE. Having a known medical condition would have made that EASY, IMO. Setting a fire in a sub points to something much more serious than “laziness”. I’d be checking into ALL of the guys’ connections, his political leanings, etc... Which union does this guy belong to, BTW? (I’m assuming this was a union guy...)

In the AF (back in the day), you had to be on PRP to have access to alert facilities...even if planes weren't permanently there.
