Four Little Words (Why the Obama campaign is suddenly so worried)
WSJ ^

Posted on 07/27/2012 5:17:32 AM PDT by TigerClaws

What's the difference between a calm and cool Barack Obama, and a rattled and worried Barack Obama? Four words, it turns out.

"You didn't build that" is swelling to such heights that it has the president somewhere unprecedented: on defense. Mr. Obama has felt compelled—for the first time in this campaign—to cut an ad in which he directly responds to the criticisms of his now-infamous speech, complaining his opponents took his words "out of context."

"Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges."

My G-G-Grandfather built a road in the howling wilderness of what is now West Virginia in the 1820s that has now become a state highway. He didn't have any government help, but he did have help from family members building it.

Almost every major road and highway in the area where I live in the West was once a privately built toll or wagon road, all originally built without any kind of government help.

I stand corrected, Skin. And felt it was a bit of a generalization when I posted it. Not just politicans but all people can be guilty of pandering to their audience. I guess I would qualify that by saying the libs are the masters of the practice..

Actually, Barry, I DID build my business. In addition I have also paid all of the exhorbitant taxes on it, paid for the ridiculous OSHA and other riduculous, regulatory fees, paid the mortgage, the advertising, the upkeep, the salaries/benefits, and more taxes on any personal income I managed to derive from the business.

As for the roads, I paid gasoline taxes, ad velorm taxes, and other taxes that contributed to their building and upkeep.

Your dumbass statement proves that you are an imbecile, with no practical working knowledge of how life works.

As for the Government, Obama, YOU didn’t build THAT. The government is of, for, and by, the people, and we pay ALL of its bills.

It is government overreach that allows you to embezzle our hard earned money, and sap away our freedom. You are - IMHO - an enemy of the state. If I was somehow tricked into being in a line to shake your hand, when you got to me, I would cross my arms, and turn my back on you.

You are the quintessential traitor to America and all she stands for, relying on the law of the jungle to elevate you to undeserved heights, at the expense of patriotic Americans.

When you lose in November, I hope that “good riddance Obama” parties will spring up all across the country in celebration.

Your second youtube link, where you can hear the audience response, gives the real context of Obama's speech. It sounds like he's a preacher in a black church, with all the "you're right" and agreeing shouts.

It sounds like he was addressing an audience of black government workers.

I remember when President Bush talked about the Tyranny of Low Expectation. Here is a president saying... hey those successful people didnt really become successful... as a matter of fact, probably you are the others that made them successful, so you are entitled to the benefits of that success.....

Tell me he is not trying to start a class war?

...to run an ad that shows a full minute of Mr. Obama's rant at the Roanoke, Va., campaign event on July 13.

In addition to "you didn't build that," the president also put down those who think they are "smarter" or "work harder" than others.

Obama's hatred of middle class American businessmen is showing...

Context? We've had four years of crypto-Marxist, America-bashing context. We know exactly what the little Cloward-Piven, Alinskyite fairy said.
Exactly.

The context is we have someone who hates free enterprise and wants to destroy it completely.

Obama’s mistake here is that of believing that everyone begrudges the success of the successful as much as he does.

When using the full context, be sure to include a link to the white house site (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/07/13/remarks-president-campaign-event-roanoke-virginia) and leave the liberal nowhere to go.

Sorry lib, this isn't an allegedly conservative news source selectively editing the speech.

Almost every major road and highway in the area where I live in the West was once a privately built toll or wagon road, all originally built without any kind of government help.

Almost every road in your area was not only built with private capital, they were operated under licenses that required the owner to cede the road back to the government after a period of time, an open-eyed deal but a total confiscation of the asset. Some of them lost their shirts on the roads but made out on the homesteads they settled along the way.

His handlers obviously made a mistake when they took the teleprompter away from their post turtle.

Read somewhere that he did have the teleprompter when he made this speech. Either he went off the script on his own or he now has some speech writers with their private parts in the wringer. Obama never delivers a speech without the tele, even a short speech at a school with 3rd graders.

Obama didn’t build his political philosophy.

Marx did that.

The examples of Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Castro and others did that.

Obama’s real and supposed fathers did that.

Obama’s pathetic mother and her family did that.

Obama’s Muslim religion, and that of Jeremiah Wright did that.

Obama’s connections to Chicago political thuggery, 60s radicals, and the offshoots of the Communist Party USA did that.

He was indeed, “preaching to the choir”. Thankfully, most Americans have a real problem with his sermon...

"""The Romney campaign can now produce an ad where they show Obama complaining he was taken out of context, and show the full context."""

Good idea, then the only line they need is "Well, you be the Judge"
