Harry Reid Says He Knows What's in Romney's Taxes
Atlantic Wire ^

Posted on 07/31/2012 5:10:49 PM PDT by chessplayer

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he heard from a Bain investor who heard that Mitt Romney paid exactly zero taxes for 10 years, Reid tells The Huffington Post's Sam Stein and Ryan Grim.

. Reid said Romney's dead father would be "so embarrassed" by his son. Then he recounted how a Bain Capital investor called him a month ago and said, "Harry, he didn't pay any taxes for 10 years." Acknowledging that's awfully slim evidence, Reid offers this massive asterisk:

"He didn't pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that's true? Well, I'm not certain… But obviously he can't release those tax returns. How would it look?"

It’s too bad we can’t find out what is “in” Stinky Harry Reid’s taxes.

They are both among the most elite and devoted of Mormons, Temple Mormons, and as such they are required by Mormon law to give 10% of their income to the leaders, or else they are removed from the Temples and join the ranks of the average Mormons.

Mitt and Reid may know everything about each other.

I have it on good authority that Harry Reid beats his wife.

Reid has stolen this "What? All he has to do is release the document" trick from is idelological enemies.

Well, obama hasn't released all his documents, so why should Romney.

If it is true that he paid no taxes, it must be legal or he'd be in major trouble. But running for president with that in your background would be a rough thing to overcome. I bet if 10 years of zero returns were released, we would see a bloodbath of media and democrat "outrage" around the clock until November.

His support would be driven down.

I heard from a friend of a friend that Harry Ried is an alien that eats brains. Do I know that for sure? No, but he has to answer the charges.

How Did Harry Reid Become Rich?

Dec 24th, 2009

(Mark Noonan) – According to Open Secrets, Senator Harry Reid has a minimum net worth of $2,827,056.00, a maximum worth of $6,307,999.00 and an average net worth of $4,567,527.00. Why all the discrepancies?
Because our leaders, much as they set up campaign finance laws to protect themselves, have set up their disclosure requirements to hide things. They don’t really want us to know how much they have and thus the millions of dollars of variance possible in Reid’s fortune.

Still, taking that nearly $4.6 million average for Reid seems fair – if it’s really off, then it’s up to Reid to correct the record. And that is quite a rise for a man who endlessly reminds us was born poor.

Sounds like Harry has broken a few federal laws if he really does know what he says he knows.

Dear Harry

You grew up in a brothel in one of Nevada’s most corrupt towns (back then).

What’s in your wallet ?

Sharron Angle:

“You came from Searchlight to the Senate with very little,” Angle said, in one of the debate’s tensest moments. “Now you’re one of the richest men in the U.S. Senate. And on behalf of Nevada taxpayers, I’d like to know — we’d like to know — how did you become so wealthy on a government payroll?”

A perplexed Reid said Angle’s comment was “really kind of a low blow.”

some of Sen. Reid’s real estate earnings have questionable ties. For example, a $1.1 million profit was earned on a complicated transfer that involved a seller who stood to benefit from Sen. Reid’s support of a land swap. And there are less direct deals, such as his support for an Arizona-Nevada bridge that made his 160 acres in Arizona much more valuable.

As for his legal career, I believe it was short, and that it largely ended in 1968.

As for his net worth, squirrelly laws yield a large uncertainty — from $2.8 million to $6.3 million. We really don’t know his personal wealth. And a lot of Sen. Reid’s “wealth” is in much vaguer family favors. For example, all four of his sons were hired by the law firm in which Harvey Whittemore is a senior partner. Sen. Reid has gone to bat for Mr. Whittemore in some very big land deals, even pushing federal legislation to help the development of Coyote Springs.

Sounds like a tactic to force Romney to release more tax records. If Romney wants to prove Reid wrong, he needs to release them. If he ignores it or refuses, he looks guilty.

A sleazy move - hopefully Romney just ignores him, he isn’t worth responding to.

A Bain investor has no way of knowing how much a Bain principal pays in taxes. And that he allegedly "heard it" from someone else makes his knowledge even more dubious.

You can use only $3,000 of capital losses a year to offset ordinary income. The only way Romney didn't have ordinary income were if he got no Bain compensation during the time he chaired the U.S. Olympics committee.

Given BO’s power over the IRS, I can’t imagine these Chicago guys NOT having Romney’s returns.

So why beg Romney to self-report them now, before the convention?

If Romney was illegal or crooked in any way, they wouldn’t be asking for the goods now - they’d just release it after the convention when, if Romney dropped out, the GOP would be out.

If he was clean and even showed awesome charitable deductions, they wouldn’t ask for them at all. Not a peep.

If he just looked like an evil rich guy, they ask now, months from the election, to reinforce that perception before some undecideds get locked in or decide to not vote. Whether he releases them or not, the image gains them a few points.

Summary: it’s all to swing the 2% undecided, uneducated margins in 3 states who are deciding the future of the country.

I remember a few years back. Some of Nevada’s cities needed to get some federal land de-federalized so they could develop it. Reid made it happen. The cities and I think at least one of the developers involved had to hire Reid’s sons as their lobbyists.

The sons, as I recall, were paid on the order of $250k and $350k by each player as the cost of talking to Reid.

Now, I don’t allege that this was illegal. The sons are lawyers I believe, and Reid is a lawmaker, so I’m sure they know where the legal lines are drawn. Its just something to remember about Reid.

FACT CHECK: HARRY REID‘S CLAIM THAT ’MILLIONAIRE JOB CREATORS…DON’T EXIST’ THOROUGHLY DEBUNKED

on Dec.12, 2011 while proposing his 1.9 percent surtax on millionaires, Sen. Harry Reid said the following (via Forbes):

Millionaire job creators are like unicorns. They’re impossible to find, and they don’t exist…Only a tiny fraction of people making more than a million dollars, probably less than 1 percent, are small business owners. And only a tiny fraction of that tiny fraction are traditional job creators…Most of these businesses are hedge fund managers or wealthy lawyers. They don’t do much hiring and they don’t need tax breaks.
