Chick-fil-A faces vandalism, ‘human rights violation’ complaints for defending marriage
Life Site News ^ | August 3, 2012 | KATHLEEN GILBERT

SPRINGFIELD, IL, August 3, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A gay rights advocacy group in Illinois has launched a series human rights complaints with Illinois state government against Chick-fil-A for supporting marriage, the day before a national homosexual “kiss-in” was planned to take place.

After filing the complaint Thursday with the Illinois Department of Human Rights, Jacob Meister, Governing Board President of The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA) said that Chick-fil-A’s stance on marriage was to blame for a widespread stigmatization of homosexual individuals.

“In our current high speed media and social media environment, Chick-fil-A has announced and caused to be published, to hundreds of millions of people, that LGBT people are unacceptable and objectionable,” said Meister. “They have made it clear the lives of LGBT individuals are unacceptable to them and that same-gender families are unwelcome at Chick-fil-A.” The attorney alleged that Chick-fil-A’s “intolerant corporate culture” violated Illinois law.

Meanwhile, gay rights supporters on Friday launched a “Kiss-In Day” in front of Chick-fil-A restaurants across the country in response to the August 1 “National Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.” Both events came in reaction to CEO Cathy’s statements last month supporting Biblical values for traditional marriage, words that prompted the mayors of Boston and Chicago to call for the banishment of the chicken chain. D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray followed suit, dubbing the company’s famous sandwich “hate chicken.”

Chick-fil-A officials confirmed this week that the sales on August 1, which saw thousands of supporters clog lobbies, drive-thrus, and even nearby traffic as they waited for a turn at a hot chicken meal, broke records. Pastor Rick Warren had tweeted that CEO Dan Cathy said the chain had surpassed a new world record.

The homosexual “kiss-in” has been used by the gay lobby in several protests, particularly in Europe against the Catholic Church, where supporters planned such an event in front of Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to Spain in 2010. French demonstrators attempted the same in front of Notre Dame Cathedral the same year.

In terms of social media, the event has left less of a mark than Wednesday’s show of support. While Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day garnered over 670,000 supporters on a Facebook event page sponsored by Mike Huckabee, as of Friday afternoon, about 14,000 had signed up on the “National Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-fil-A” Facebook event, and only two “kiss-in” images had been uploaded to the Tumblr account posted on the page.

Employees faced backlash both inside and outside their stores this week. A California Chick-fil-A was vandalized with large black graffiti spelling, “Tastes like hate.”

A viral video captured a man in Tuscon, Arizona, badgering a female Chick-fil-A employee on Wednesday for working for a “hateful corporation.”

“I don’t know how you live with yourself and work here, I don’t understand it,” said the man, Adam Smith, in the video of himself he posted on YouTube.

The company for which Smith was acting as CFO, the medical supply manufacturer Vante, said this week it immediately fired him after seeing the intolerant behavior in the video.

This is exactly why we need tort reform, specifically "loser pays."

They know they aren't going to win. They just want to cost Chick-Fil-A a lot of money.

What needs to happen is that when they lose, they pay up or go to jail.

Queers: "We are the 2-3%."

My, my but they are a noisy group.

I doubt any of the IL law suits are going anywhere. Chik-Fil-A does not discriminate against anyone in any way. They wouldn't be a multi billion dollar company if they did.

The Chick-Fil-A appreciation day was an outstanding example to conservatives on how to organize. As someone who spent nearly 20 years in local government, the Lord knows that conservative folk don’t know how to organize. Now, let’s take this lesson and apply it to local village councils, planning and zoning committees and county board seats and kick the fascists and commies out. And while you’re at it, Mr. and Mrs, Conservative, vote in a Constitutional sheriff into your county.

You’ll feel so much better after you secure your neighborhoods for yourself and your family. It’s what the founders did before taking on King George and the Tories.

There’s a fun story of how the local Committee of Safety in South Carolina ran the King’s governer out of the state in 1775. He tucked his tail between his legs and had to seek refuge on a British warship in the harbor outside of Charleston.

Conservatives can exercise tremendous power in local governemnt if they learn how to use it.

Roe Conn, a Chicago WLS radio talk show host interviewed Jacob at 4pm this afternoon. While Roe believes that same-sex marriage should be allowed he totally destroyed the case that the Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA). Jacob should be totally embarrassed about how that discussion went.

No, he will be welcomed with open arms into some lefty organization. ACORN anyone?

ALso, I’m sure he probably met with a lawyer today and will WIN, but not because any laws were broken, but because our judicial system has gone slap crazy. How else do you explain Roberts and Obamacare?

Where did Gilbert come up with 670K supporters? I’d bet Georgia alone came up with that number.

Agree - it's in the millions, easy.

The Dragon is waking up.

“Where did Gilbert come up with 670K supporters?”

That’s the number of people who said the were going on the Huckabee events page. 671,871 to be exact. Of course, we know there were many more than that who actually came.

Thanks for the clarification—I’m totally ignorant of these social-network workings. Huckabee said his tweet (or whatever the heck it’s called) got 21 MILLION hits. Is 671,871 simply those who “liked” or replied? If so, it’s manifestly NOT a measurement of “support.”

I’ve already posted this comment on an article, but I want to make sure as many people see it as possible: The name was redacted because the complainant is a hypocrite. How do I know? You can see his name in the upper right on most pages: John Zaharakis, 44 y/o, owner of the gay bar Cocktail in Chicago. They regularly have mostly naked men dancing for the customers, so his claim to be a Christian is more propaganda. His lawsuit doesn’t even state he entered a Chick-Fil-A. Also, look up the Illinois statute. You read further and it plainly states the free exercise of religiously based views shall not constitute a civil rights violation! There’s no record of him having a daughter with his partner, Dusty Hoffman.
But the most hypocritical thing about this all is that his bar discriminates against straight women...they even have a sign! CFA doesn’t bar anyone from their restaurants in ANY way, but John will. Don’t believe me, just google discrimination and Zaharakis. Many of the gay blogs that talk about it even admit that it’s discriminatory. So where’s Rahm & Moreno now? Public records also reveal 15 liens/judgments from the IRS, the state, and private individuals - one of whom was the General Manager of Cocktail! The most recent liens were on July 16, 2012. This is the same day he alleged he felt discriminated against. Someone needs money badly.
This is the best complaint they could muster? The suit itself is baseless and the complainer is the one who should be sued. The arguments these GLBT extremists have are hollow and sensational. Just question their sources before believing the hype.

“Ride with Pride” for homosexuals

Ick. I would go out of my way to avoid THAT.

Disgusting what a tiny fraction of the population can accomplish through threats.

I do not use Twitter, but my understanding is that a tweet represents a hit in which someone comments on another’s Twitter account.

You can see the Huckabee numbers yourself by going to the article above and clicking on “a Facebook event page” which is underlined and in red. As of now, there are 3,944,404 guests. 3,207,727 were invited to attend, 672,703 responded that they were going, 64,404 said maybe, 177,820 declined. If you click on “Facebook event” in the same sentence, you will see that yesterday’s kiss-in event page has 129,114 guests. 110,536 were invited, 14,618 said they were going, 3,960 said maybe, 9,457 declined.
