Love her or loathe her (and those seem to be the only options), Sarah Palin won’t go away. Despite holding no office and having no obvious intention of running for one, she continues to dominate headlines and divide the country. So how will Romney handle her in 2012? Presuming that he won’t nominate her for Veep (the smart money is on a really boring white guy), what role – if any – will she take in the campaign? Should the GOP embrace the Palin effect or pretend it doesn’t exist?
Palin’s national role in the last few days reminds us why she matters. Last Sunday, Dick Cheney told ABC News that he thought putting her on the ticket in 2008 was a mistake because she wasn’t “capable of being President of the United States.” Cheney’s idea of a perfect ticket would probably be Cheney and Cheney, so we might put this one down to ego. But his remarks highlight the fact that Palin’s pick in 2008 is still relevant to the debate over the GOP’s strategy in 2012. The choice is this: do they run a moderate ticket that doesn’t offend anyone or take a risk on a radical ticket that angers some but motivates others? How mavericky does Romney want to be?
The evidence suggests that the maverick strategy didn’t work in 2008. Some will say that the Republicans chose the wrong maverick, and there’s no denying that Palin wasn’t yet ready for the media exposure. But a fair mind can never quite dismiss the Palin gambit out of hand because it was also tried in the wrong year. Frankly, the Democrats could have nominated Roseanne Barr in 2008 and the crazy lady would’ve won by a landslide...

Allen West would seem to me to be a good choice; but I don’t know for sure. Sarah Palin was a target for a media that refused to vet Obama; she made him look like Ned in the Third Reader.
It is going to be more likely than not that the next congress, most of the "conservative" media and pundits are going to be a rubber stamp/ go along and get along for a Mitt administration.

In early 2009 McCain’s campaign staff attacked Palin. What did McCain do about it? Did he defend her? No.
Within months he was asked if he would endorse her for president for 2012. He refused. Not only did he do that, he failed to say one nice thing about her.
Flip forward a year, and Palin endorsed McCain to return to the Senate of the United States. That move looked more like an example of battered wife syndrome than anything else. But it was backing the worst Republican we have had in my lifetime that bothered me the most.
So have I wanted Palin to be president for the last two years, not three as you have stated? No.
Palin has admitted that her fix for illegal immigration is to register them so they can stay here and work. Do I want to support someone for the presidency that has announced they want all illegals to stay here so they can continue to kill, rape, molest, rob, burgle, sap our nation’s health and educations systems dry, and take our citizen’s jobs for pennies on the dollar? No.
Is she the leader of the Tea Party? No. She holds no position whatsoever with the Tea Party?
Are her endorsements of Republicans running for office always sound? No. I’ve already addressed one person she screwed up on, and there have been others.
So no, I don’t want Sarah Palin to be president. I don’t want her to be president for some of the same reasons I don’t want other misguided soles to be president.
Just because they wear improper footwear does not make them unqualified for the presidency.

In a wide-ranging interview with FNC's Eric Bolling yesterday, Governor Sarah Palin said that the Romney camp has been in touch regarding the convention, but that nothing is yet confirmed. She also said that she "just want[s] to help" and, like Newt Gingrich, is comfortable with the idea of "speaking or not."
The video is below. This excerpt starts at 3:20:
Sometimes helping means you step aside and certainly you don’t invite yourself into a leadership or speakership type role at a convention like this. You try to work with the strategy the campaign has in place, and evidently Romney's campaign has a strategy that they will implement. And whether I'm there or not as a speaker, I'm comfortable either way just like Newt Gingrich said he was comfortable either way -- speaking or not.
Palin also made clear that she and Governor Romney have a good relationship:
Speaking personally, there is no hatchet to bury or olive branch that needs to be passed between Mitt Romney and myself. We have a good relationship and I have great respect for him and I am so thankful the GOP has a strong candidate who understands the private sector and what it takes to get the economy roaring again.
This is gracious of the Governor, but I personally think Romney would be insane not to give the biggest and most effective star in the conservative movement the best speaking slot he possibly can.
Like 2010, 2012 is going to be a turn out/base election and no one turns us conservatives out like Sarah Palin.
Also of note in the interview is what the Governor had to say about the corrupt media:
I and others warned GOP strategists and GOP candidates that no matter who that GOP nominee would be coming out of our primary process, they would have to run against -- not just President Obama and his billion dollar campaign war chest … this nominee of ours would have to run against the lapdogs in the mainstream media and the yellow journalism they practice. ….
The irony I think is that so many in the GOP establishment sat back on the sidelines -- they were just kind of sucking it all in when this was happening to other people in the party in the last four years. Now they’re getting a taste of it and they’re realizing what it is we've been warning them about. The media attacking Palin and her family is just evil being evil. I will, however, never forgive those in the Republican Party who stood on the sidelines as this was happening. And the ones who joined in can go straight to hell.

Okay, to Palin's point about the media's behavior towards Mitt Romney, she's exactly right. All those wobbly Republicans who think the media can be appeased by a more moderate candidate or moderate positions are being proved wrong this very day. The media's in full-throated destroy mode against this Massachusetts Moderate, just as they would have been had we nominated someone more conservative.
To Romney's great credit, he understand this and isn't jumping into media traps as we saw McCain do time and again in 2008.
But when I hear my fellow Republicans affirm a media narrative about Romney's taxes or how he handled the press corps during his overseas trip, that's the same old dangerous ignorance at play that foolishly assumes that surrendering to narratives is a way to appease the media when, in fact, that surrender is really a trap.
Nothing will ever placate the media. Romney could've answered a gajillion questions asked by the crybaby press corps, and they still would've manufactured whatever they had to in order to declare his overseas venture a failure. Romney could release every tax return he's filed since birth, and the media would still manufacture a way to paint his as shady and dishonest.
The polls show that Romney is doing just fine. He's keeping Obama under 50, well under 50, and has 97 days to roll out the ideas that will show voters he's the acceptable alternative to this complete failure of a president. Romney can also start to finally spend all this money he's been precluded from spending until the convention -- which is only 25 days away.

Or we could take over the Republican Party at the precinct level, then county and state. By then, we’d be in control and the GOP-e would have no say-so.
I think Romney should pick her as “Energy Secretary”. She has a lot of experience in that area .. and she is a definite reformer. This is one of the magic pills needed to get the energy dept headed in the right direction. And .. she should have carte blanc to FIRE ANY AND ALL FORMER OBAMA APPOINTEES.
After she gets through cleaning up Energy, she could start on EPA or GSA; or maybe all of the rest of Obama’s “czars’” criminal activity.
This leaves Mitt free to get the country moving by lowering taxes and removing burdensom regulations for small businesses .. instead of having to do the dirty work of cleaning up the mess Obama has left behind.
I love Cheney, but he’s wrong about who was the “mistake” on the ‘08 ticket .. it wasn’t Sarah.
The main secret is getting repubs, conservatives, etc., to the polls so we can clean out the Congress too. If we don’t get a reformer-attitude congress this next go-around - we could be in for a lot of trouble. We need enough of them to outshout the old timers who think they know everything - but they’re actually a real part of the problem.
And .. maybe we need a new Speaker of the House .. somebody who is not so friendly with the corrupt and disgusting dems who want to tear this country apart .. and deep-sixing that monstrousity of Obamacare.
Your PDS finally seeps back out into the open. It’s hard to put aside old habits isn’t it?
