Former vice president Dick Cheney on Monday backed off his comment that it was a mistake for the GOP to pick Sarah Palin as its vice presidential nominee, suggesting the comment was more about the VP process than about Palin herself.
It wasnt aimed so much at governor Palin as it was against the basic process that (John) McCain used, Cheney told Fox Newss Sean Hannity in an interview airing Monday night. My point basically dealt with the process in terms of that basic requirement: Is this person prepared to step in to be President of the United States when theyre picked? And it was my judgment I was asked if I thought the McCain process in 08 had been well done or was it a mistake, and I said I thought it was a mistake.

Feeling a little heat there Dick?
Apparently the “process” Dick Cheney prefers is when a Presidential candidate picks Dick Cheney to head up his search committee - he seeks high and low - and finds out objectively that the man best suited for the job - is Dick Cheney.
What a Dick Cheney.
Kepp backwalkin’ Dick! You’re not there yet!
I don’t see what he ‘walked back.’
He basically restated his original position and added “nothing personal against her.”
is clarifying “walking back?” is being taken out of context a reason to “walk back” a remark?
That aint no walk back, that’s a double down
I guess it take a “mistake” like Bush-Cheney 2004 to be qualified to judge another VP mistake pick
Like he did the party and ticket a helluva lot of good from 2004 to 2008 and beyond ... NOT
Yeah, from everything I read (and I didn’t see the original interview), I didn’t really take it as a slam on Palin. He complimented her in the snippets from the interview I read...he was just not certain Juan McAmnesty had done the best job he could.
I also see why Palin might have felt she was being attacked, no question.
I admit to having great admiration for Cheney—I think many times he was the only conservative voice in the wilderness during the last months of the Bush administration. :)
An even bigger mistake was for the GOP to nominate a clown like McCain in 2008.
Comment on that, Dick.

Say good night, Dick. Please.
I saw the original interview and he basically stated this in the interview. For him, it was all about her experience, which I questioned as well. As far as I know, it was nothing about her personal self or political views but about her readiness to become President if necessary.
Too late Dick, you gave the GOP-e and the Dems the talking point they wanted for November.
Now they’ll quote you from here to November 4.
Too little, too late.
Face it, Sarah Palin probably rescued John McCain from a complete rout, rather than what was a decisive loss.
McCain failed to deliver adequate responses when attacked, and did not (or would not) carry out legitimate attacks on the vulnerabilities and weaknesses in the announced policies of the Obama campaign. Sarah Palin carried all the water, but she was only in the Vice Presidential slot.
It was interesting, at the time, that the real dialogue was between Sarah and Obama, and John McCain just seemed to be a spectator.
Hey Dick. Let us not forget that all that “experience” you, Rove and Bush brought to the table did not end well.
The Bush administration, which includes you, Dick ended with
about a 23% Approval rating. One of the WORST in American History. And HELPED GIVE US OBAMA!.
So much for the experience you brought to the table.
Exactly, Dick completed his assignment for the GOP Help Mitt campaign. Cruz just did his.
Funny how so many here do not see it... or care... or both.
LLS
Like he did the party and ticket a helluva lot of good from 2004 to 2008 and beyond ... NOT
One has to see the irony in Cheney talking about “experience”
in picking a VP.
He, Rove and Bush had all the “experience” the GOPe’s could want.
And look where all that “experience got him.
One of the lowest approval ratings in American History.
Which helped elect Obama.
So much for your “experience” BS
I still want a refund on his book “In My Time.”
Apology not accepted.
I’m disappointed. I see no reason for Cheney to have said anything about 2008, particularly anything negative about Palin, regardless of what he may believe.
It STILL wasn’t a mistake, because Sarah Palin had more Executive experience than McCain, Obama and Biden combined! She might not have had extensive Foreign Policy experience, but that can be learned along the way, and why it’s important to pick the right advisors. That goes for ALL the issues in which the President is involved.
Did you see the ‘08 clip where a reporter mentioned something about Sarah to Newt. He said what are you talking about - she has more experience than Obama - and went on to give a good talking to - the reporter couldn’t say a thing.
I see Newt is not part of the good old boys club but then, again, he is a historian someone who loves America he studied her - the others just want to control her in pack mentality.
Had Reagan picked someone like Paul Laxalt, neither of the Bushes would have become president.
Great point. Roll The Tape: Newt Gingrich sets MSNBC reporter straight on Governor Palin...
*Sigh*. How did Newt not win the GOP nomination?
Experience comes in three flavors: Good experience, Bad experience and the dreadful No experience. Often, No experience can actually be Good experience.
How many people in public office have the qualifications to be President? Probably none. Politicians like to pretend that what they do is rock science which it is not.
Left the GOP without a viable candidate.
But Bush had no concern about the GOP and the nation's future.
Yes, from his own daughter even.
Not only that,I believe Cheney also lead the search for Gerald Ford’s VP and came out with,Nelson Rockefeller. A ‘New World Order’,fabian socialist. If you go on the Site,’Gulag Bound’,there is a great video of Cheney as VP,giving a speech to the Council Of Foreign Relations. There he fields an obviously scripted question from one of the Head, fabian socialist, oligarch’s himself,David Rockefeller. How cozy. Cheney reveals in his own words, how he kept the fact that he was the head of the CFR from his Wyoming constituents, knowing they wouldn’t approve. This was the first i heard about Cheney heading one of the leading organizations pushing for a One World Government. Cheney is nowhere near as Conservative as he likes to portray. This explains alot of why Obama and the left’s agenda keeps getting pushed ahead, even though the repubs could have stopped all of it. It also explains why the establishment repubs, have no problem attacking Palin, but nary a word of protest against Obama, unless they are running for re-election.
Not but he'll be roasted here again by self-appointed defenders of all things remotely Palin.
I said it before, it was a "mistake" because it didn't produce a winning ticket and it destroyed Palin's political career, nearly ruined her family financially and destroyed her children's privacy.
Only the most deluded would find that outcome not proof positive of a "mistake" in process.
True! That was the cost of the RINO’s backing Reagan.
True! That was the cost for the RINO’s backing Reagan.
Here is a patriot most here never even remotely traveled close to the circles he walked in and experienced first hand ..
He Cheney thinks or was concerned Palin was ready to POTUS I take the mans word for it...
What town, however large or small, were they ever mayor of?
What state, however large or small, were they ever governor of?
Cheney is part of the Republican establishment.
In other words, he’s part of the problem.
Mr. Vice President, I don’t know what’s sadder: That you said it in the first place, that you took it back, or that it took a week for you to figure out you had to take it back.

Johnny McQueeg "rally" (LOL) before Gov. Palin ...

Palin/McQueeg rally after the selection of Sarah Palin as VP ....

Pictures tell a thousand words ...
Gotta feel sorry for Dick Cheny. The TeaParty made him irrelevant.
I thought Dick listened to me the first time, when he decided - after his Palin remark - that was going to be “gone fishin” until after the election.
Why Mr Hannity did you bring Dick back? Were your ratings too low, or are you, like Dick, stoking the fires of resentment between the grassroots and the GOP establishment. Keep it up, you’ll help get enough grassroots Conservatives switching from “holding our nose” to doin like Dick and “goin fishin”.
That’s “walking it back?” Seems like he double-downed. The truth, as everyone knows, is that the mistake lay in the PRESIDENTIAL candidate. And in 4 years, we’ve apparently learned NADA.
Cheney did not, and continues to not, do his daughter Liz any favors related to her possible political future in Wyoming by, in effect, bad mouthing Sarah Palin in an uncalled for manner based upon falsehoods.
How could a comment about Sarah Palin effect the November election? Do you mean that she will not be picked as VP because of what Cheney said?
Although wild cheering drowned out the rest of Reagan's speech, I was not among those cheering. I worried that if Reagan won and Bush succeeded him, Bush would try to undo whatever Reagan accomplished--and he did.
Same here. After the bitter primary with that POS bush with his "voodoo economics" attack, it was clear that Pres. Reagan had placed a backstabbing viper in the VP spot. The Bush clan is no better than the Kennedys. And Poppy Bush being back slapping buddies with Clinton gets me to hurling. Fool doesn't know WJC's LHAO.
Amateurs who became the founders of our nation wrote the Declaration of Independence, successfully fought a brutal war to gain their Independence, devised a republican system of government for a free self-governing people, wrote a constitution that is the oldest still in use in the world, and established an economic system that became the envy of the world.
"Experienced Professionals" in the form of Big Government, One-World, Nanny Staters have just about destroyed what the founders built and bequeathed to us. And they have now brought the nation to the brink of destruction.
I know which group has earned my respect.
“How could a comment about Sarah Palin **a**ffect the November election?”
It was about the Tea Party and the effect Palin has had already.
Looks like Cheney just got blasted in the face this time around.
And Dick wins “The Flying Fickle Finger of Fate” award.
