Romney: The Boy Scouts should admit homosexuals
Life Side News ^ | 8/7/2012 | Ben Johnson

Posted on 08/08/2012 5:27:53 AM PDT by IbJensen

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 7, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Mitt Romney stands by a 1994 statement that the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) should admit homosexuals to the organization, as members or adult supervisors, according to a campaign spokesperson.

During a 1994 debate with Ted Kennedy, Romney said, “I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation.”

Campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul confirmed that Mitt Romney continues to hold that belief today.

However, she said Romney, who served as a member of its executive board, has not pressured the organization to change its stance and does not wish to see the Scouts forced to accept homosexuals. LifeSiteNews.com revealed that some chapters of the Boy Scouts do not consider the national organization’s prohibition of homosexuals serving as scouts or adult leaders binding policy.

The statement came just days after Romney refused to lend verbal support to Chick-fil-A in the face of a boycott.

“It is almost as if the governor is going out of his way to de-motivate the conservative base,” said Bryan Fischer, who hosts “Focal Point” on the American Family Radio Talk network. “In fact, if he deliberately set out to dispirit evangelicals and members of the pro-family network, he could hardly do any worse.”

Homosexual organizations seized upon the campaign statement. Zach Wahls, co-founder of Scouts for Equality, an organization dedicated to admitting homosexuals into the Scouts, said in a press release he is “proud to have Governor Romney’s support on this issue amid such a polarized political climate.”

The liberal website ThinkProgress claims the ban is “out-of-step” with “mainstream American values.”

Fischer said Romney’s position had more serious defects. “Social research has revealed that homosexuals sexually offend against minors at exaggerated rates.”

“In fact, according to research published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, they are ten times more likely to molest children than heterosexual men,” he said. “Gov. Romney’s position, if adopted by the BSA, would put the sexual innocence of untold numbers of young boys at risk.”

The move carries political implications for a candidate struggling to attract his party’s base.

“If the Democratic Party is going to take a stand for homosexual marriage and the Republican Party wont stand up for traditional marriage, then they’re abdicating their role in the culture war,” said former Reagan adviser Pat Buchanan. He added in time, if left unchecked, “people are going to walk away from the party.”

Well, I see the “dirty-tricks brigade” from TeamObama is out in force this morning.

YOu are not paying attention, pfony.

These are Romney's own words and Romney's own spokesperson. This happened just a few days ago. It has absolutely nothing to do with any dirty trick by anyone.

It is a self-inflicted wound. It is being picked up by pro-family, conservative organizations who are puzzled as can be by Romney's doing this. At lifesite and at renewamerica, these are groups that want Romney to do well. What he's done with this is discourage them.

I'm sure you see that.

ABOs need to be fair with social conservatives who are religious social conservatives. There are some things their faith simply won't allow them to support.

I'll bet even you wish that Romney hadn't come out with this response.

“We are coming to a time when people will envy the dead.”

Do you remember what book of the bible that comes from?

Thanks. Just asking.

The problem for me here is that he has come out espousing a public position that is in agreement with the queer agenda.

He has personally and quite publically aligned himself on the opposite side of conservatives on this issue and could now be viewed as an “ally” in the fight to destroy the BSA with the admission of queers.

But conservatives on the Hill can mitigate the damage either of these two clowns are capable of.

They can but it's hard. Even harder when the President is of their party. Republicans scarcely have the guts to oppose Democrats, much less one of their own.

As I typed it, it reminded me of a verse in Revelation, but I was not trying to quote anything.

If we don't have the moral authority and obligation to protect children from homosexuals, then what is life about?

You can't sit on the fence with this one.

Romney's position is evil. No one should vote for such a man.

Ridiculously long lines at Chick-fil-A? Doh! that already happened. :) My next response would be prayer, fasting, reparation..

Homosexuals should be kept as far away from young boys as is humanly possible.

Mitt and GOPe can KMA. Not getting my vote, not getting a dime from me. Will support down ballot conservatives, but the top of the ticket will be blank, unless there is a third party name I recognize.

Why am I supposed to abandon my principles and vote for this guy again?

Oh, that's right, simply because he's not Obama and he has an "R" behind his name.

” Is there some reason why boy scouts need to express their sexuality anyway?”

No.
There is only one reason homos have fought so hard to be Boy Scout leaders....to molest the kids. Anyone who believes otherwise is dumber than a box of rocks....apparently, that includes Romney.

” “In fact, according to research published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, they are ten times more likely to molest children than heterosexual men,” he said. “Gov. Romney’s position, if adopted by the BSA, would put the sexual innocence of untold numbers of young boys at risk.””

What really bothers me about this is the same thing that bothers me about libs. The thought police. Romney should be allowd to feel however he wants as long as he does not impose his beliefs on others.

The problem is, Romney is running as a Republican, not a Democrat. The idea behind having distinct parties is having distinct platforms whereon we can be represented by individuals who share our ideals and values. Romney is a pro-homosexualization, pro-mandate, pro-abortion, pro-bailout, pro-amnesty, pro-guncontrol, pro-stimulus, pro-deathpanel candidate. He should be running against Obama in the Democrat's primary. He fails utterly to represent conservatives. It is misleading and insulting to have him on our ticket and it damages the Republican brand, making future elections that much more difficult to secure.

Strange as it may seem, I have heard of a few cases where  umpires (of boys baseball) have been arrested for improper behavior with young boys.  You wouldn't think they would come into contact on that level with the kids.

It has been my take that father volunteers pretty much ran the day to day Boy Scout efforts.  Why would there be a need for guys that weren't parents to get involved?

The boy's parents get involved and then drop out as their kid grows out of that age group.  Then the parents of new scouts get involved.

Isn't that sort of a built in safety measure?  I know some dads do bad things too, but at least they have some vested interest in the program.

If we had another who would it be, another chithead just like this one. Paul is a nut, Gingrich is dead in the water, Santorum sucks, and Goode has about as much chance as a snowball in hell.

Do you have a history of joining an enemy you feel cannot be beaten? How very Benedict Arnold'ish. Draw a line somewhere, anywhere.

There are articles out there at times that are not Obama’s dirty-tricks brigade at work, and this is one of those. You are too focused on the dirty-tricks apparently to realize when it’s in play versus Romney’s own self inflicted Leftisms.

Life Side News is NOT a pro Obama site, and Romney has a track record on the BSA homosexual matter along with many other Leftist perspectives.

Your response to my post was an error. You should have posted to someone else’s comment in line with the intent of your response. Mine was not about NOT voting for Romney as you wished it to be. Mine was about it being a damned shame Romney apparently is what we have to vote for at this critical time in the history of our Nation.

I don't recall any accusations of a dirty tricks brigade working for Team Obama back in 2008 when that liberal piece of work Romney was hustling for the Republican nomination and being found inferior in conservative credentials to even that RINO McCain. Conservatives are a pretty consistent bunch. Romney was not good enough in 2008. He has not changed his tune and he isn't good enough in 2012. He is being justly lambasted for his liberalism by conservatives. Obama has nothing to do with it. But feel free to keep throwing that spaghetti around; it might stick somewhere.
