Will Smith on 75% Tax in France
CNS News ^ | August 8, 2012 | CNS News

On France’s TF1 in early May, Smith explained why he supported the idea of paying higher taxes, saying, "I have no issue with paying taxes and whatever needs to be done for my country to grow. I believe very firmly that my ability to sit here -- I'm a black man who didn't go to college, yet I get to travel around the world and sell my movies, and I believe very firmly that America is the only place on Earth that I could exist. So I will pay anything that I need to pay to keep my country growing."

The interviewer then said, “Do you know how much in France you would have to pay on earnings above 1 million euros [French President Francois Hollande's proposal]? Not 30 percent – 75 percent.”

At that point, Smith said, “75? Yeah, that's different, that's different. Yeah, 75. Well, you know, God bless America.”

They don’t really want to pay more, they want YOU to pay more.

Actually, there is now a lot of fear in France that many well-off French nationals will just "offshore" most of their liquid assets to a tax haven like Switzerland or even the Cayman Islands--and that would be a HUGE financial disaster for France indeed.

So pay it and shut up. Just don’t prescribe what anyone else should pay.

Take all his money, and send him back to Philly.

Because he knows he's first in line to play Bobo in the inevitable rushed biopic...

This reminds me of the story of Oscar Wilde: A wealthy woman is telling him how wonderful she things he is. He asks her if she will sleep with him for 1000 pounds sterling. She blushes and says yes of course. He then asks if she will do it for 10. She is outraged and says "What do you take me for?"

He replies: "We have already agreed on that we are now just negotiating the price."

There is always a line. Sadly this will not have the desired effect on Will Smith.

I remember when George Harrison’s song “Taxman” came out, and Harrison was quoted as saying he knew he had to pay high taxes, but 95% was totally ridiculous. He was then savaged in the rock press by the morons who said he was being greedy for not wanting to pay 95%. That’s the way these people look at things. I would bet most bleeding-heart, uber-rich lib celebs put their money tax shelters or overseas accounts as soon as humanly possible.

Most folks don't realize that the line in the song "that's one for you, nineteen for me", was actually the reality of their tax rate.

Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one for you, nineteen for me
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don’t take it all
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah I’m the taxman

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.

Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t want to pay some more
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

George Harrison

A 75 percent tax on the entertainment industry (and at least 75 percent of them are libs) sounds like a sound idea. Thanks Dan Zachary.
