Here's the prepared text of Paul Ryan's address in Norfolk, Virginia, via The Weekly Standard.

For conservatives, the WS has the right lead: our rights come from nature and from God, not government.

This idea is founded on the principles of liberty, freedom, free enterprise, self-determination and government by consent of the governed.

I have been reluctant to state this with all the Mormon haters on FR but if Romney governs according to his religious tenants of free will, self reliance, being a Christ like example, and giving people dignity by offering a hand up instead of a hand out we will be on a good track.

Having a Catholic, my former faith, and a Latter Day Saint, my current faith, on the same ticket warms me to the choice. I was not going to vote for liberal Mitt, and still haven’t decided but if these two men follow their founding and religious principles we do have hope.

Lastly, Ryan is a good choice, he has fire in the belly and his attacks will be tempered with reason. He is a career politician, and although part of the conservative movement, an insider. Fourteen years in congress, many years as an aide grooming for office I fear has left him out of touch with the common man. Mitt, well we know his background, and he is a long way from having been a missionary of the Lord.

God help us, and show us this is the right choice and course of action and pray to the Lord above everyday for these men and all our leaders that they will do what is right for this chosen land, divinely set apart for the example of freedom and choice, hope and prosperity to all the world.

Our rights come from nature and God, not government.

Excellent speech.

For my 2 cents worth, though, he could leave the "nature" part out. Does it by him anything? My Creator isn't nature.

"that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,"

For his first major decision, Romney has done well.

Paul Ryan gets it and can explain it, two aspects notably absent from GOPe and other progressive politicians.

Being used to disappointment, this is the most hope I've allowed myself in months. I'd like to build on that and, finally, I have a reason to.

Ryan is awesome:

“But America is more than just a place...it's an idea. It's the only country founded on an idea. Our rights come from nature and God, not government. We promise equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.

This idea is founded on the principles of liberty, freedom, free enterprise, self-determination and government by consent of the governed.

This idea is under assault. So, we have a critical decision to make as a nation.

We are on an unsustainable path that is robbing America of our freedom and security. It doesn't have to be this way

Ryan slipped under the Rino radar. If he believes what he is saying anyhow. I have no reason to believe he doesn’t.

I really like this part, near the end:

We won't duck the tough issues...we will lead!

We won't blame others...we will take responsibility!

We won't replace our founding principles...we will reapply them!

The pragmatic difference between American beliefs & principles, and those of the Leftists who have been misleading us for the past twenty years, is that our Founders developed a belief system based upon Experience & Reason, whereas those of the Left are always premised upon cloud borne wish lists, and the base motives, of envy & resentment.

'Our Rights Come from Nature and God, Not Government'

If only their political and policy actions lined up with their rhetoric.

And by the way, it's "nature and Nature's God."

I don’s see why Romney staff saw a need to screw up this great announcement by distancing him from the Ryan budget and then dissing Cuccinelli, who I think is terrific. I hope they get their act together soon.

Paul Ryan is going to help Romney.. great choice. (Waiting for the Biden/Ryan debate...Ryan would be like the USA basketball team against Namibia. He’ll beat Biden like a mule, which Biden is!!)

Give the willard his due, paul Ryan is a very good choice. Probably the best we could realistically hope for. And this is a very good and inspiring speech.

That said, I will not vote for willard. I have the opportunity to vote for an actual conservative for President. I intend to do so. I think that the best willard could hope for is that his actions over the next 80+ days will render his conservative critics more quiet. The ball is in his court.

Couldn’t finish the whole speech. How many times can he repeat focus-group-approved catch phrases? If this is the resident firebrand, I miss Sara more acutely than ever.

Romney made a great choice here. The dems wouldn't feel so anxious to blast him were it not for a fear they know he's right.

By the way, is there ANY legal or constitutional reason why Ryan could not BOTH be a congressman and VP?
