Group urges convention delegates to 'Dump Romney'
Augusta Free Press ^ | August 10, 2012

Posted on 08/12/2012 9:19:53 AM PDT by delacoert

A social-conservative group is using Mitt Romney’s Mormon beliefs and his record as Massachusetts governor to urge GOP convention delegates to “Dump Romney.”

A memo being circulated by the “Dump Romney” group argues that, given the weak U.S. economy, Romney ought to be leading Democratic incumbent Barack Obama in the polls, instead of trailing by as many as nine points, as the most recent Fox News poll has the race right now.

The group says Republican convention delegates are not bound by convention rules to vote for Romney, and that first-ballot abstentions could lead to the selection of a stronger national ticket in later convention rounds.

A key to the “Dump Romney” effort is anti-Mormon in nature. A press release from the group brings up issues with the Mormon religion including its “exotic beliefs” that the Garden of Eden was in Missouri and that Jesus is Satan’s brother to paint the picture that independent and Republican voters in swing states in the Bible belt like Virginia and North Carolina will desert the GOP in droves.

The press release also calls Romney “America’s Founding Father of Gay Marriage” for the same-sex weddings that were authorized by Massachusetts courts during his time as governor.

The memo, titled “Dump Romney: Why Tampa’s Republican Delegates must Dump Romney to Defeat Obama,” is available on Amazon.com and DumpRomney.org. It was produced by a group called Jews and Christians Together, and edited by Sara and David Bethel.

The aim of the “Dump Romney” movement is to “provide thoughtful, responsible and dutiful Republican delegates with a pathway out of their and our nation’s very serious problem, that the Republican Party is on the brink of nominating a sure loser,” said Steve Baldwin, a contributor and former executive director of the Council for National Policy, a Washington, D.C.,-based conservative think tank.

BS. It is an Obama inspired wedge group. The time for candidate decisions has been over for months.

Either we get on board or we get Obama and a hard left Supreme Court until he declares himself Supreme Leader.

When I read crap like this - despite whatever validity one may argue this crap has - it makes me want to wish the AnointedIdiot wins a 2nd term, finishes destroying this country, then perhaps these well-meaning idiots would then realize that sometimes one has to go with the lesser of two evils..... =.=

I support this. Now that Paul Ryan has been picked as VP, why not just dump the bum at the top of the ticket and promote Ryan to the top spot?

Their actual aim is to re-elect Obama. Now is the time for the republican party to come together as it never has before.....except for Reagan. To divide the republican party at this time will surely go the wrong way. If we hold true to our values, change who is in the Oval Office, change Congress and control our states, there is nothing we can’t do to bring our country back to being the most respected and the most powerful country in the world.

You assume “lesser” of two evils... how much less? Are you sure? Obamacare was Romney’s original design and implementation. Romney is as much of an abortionist as any demonrat.

Yeah. That's why Romney is behind in the polls despite Obama presiding over a horrible economy with $3.50/gallon gas prices and +8.5% unemployment.

Sorry, but there are a lot of conservatives out there who are the opposite of excited about Romney. You can see it in the Facebook posts on him. Most of my FB friends are Republicans. The number of them who are excited about his candidacy you can count on one hand. The number who post about third parties and how both parties suck are too numerous to count.

I “smell” stinky obama and his cohorts behind this “dump Romney movement. Divide us.. and you know the rest. This is simply stupid and unworthy of attention.

If we want a third party, start building it and bring to the forefront at the next election. Trying to elect a third party candidate at this late date would insure Obama’s re-election and the destruction of our country. For me, it’s not worth taking a chance. Where were the third party supporters after Obama got elected? You can’t just jump in at the last minute and expect to win the Oval Office. It ain’t going to happen and can only do more damage than good.

This will simply not work out. Romney is, like it or not, the frontrunner. With Rep. Paul Ryan now chosen as VP, and with a sour economy, pretty much Obama is now a “one and done” President.

The same people who are now having trouble realizing that this part of the fight is over would still be as confused as a Gorebot in Florida 2000.

The good news is that with Rep. Ryan chosen, that will all the more benifit Romney.

Also with so much at stake, third parties will simply allow for an Obama second term.

The GOP could do themselves a big favor by flipping the ticket. They would probably go from a dead heat to a 20 point lead overnight.
