Mohammed Morsi tells Egypt army to 'protect the nation'
Telegraph UK ^ | Monday, August 13, 2012 | David Blair

At a stroke, President Mohammed Morsi struck the biggest blow against the army's political power since the "Free Officers" established the military's dominance by toppling the monarchy in 1952.

The biggest casualty of the purge was Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, who served as Mr Mubarak's defence minister for 20 years.

But the president has done his best to preserve Field Marshal Tantawi's dignity, awarding him a medal and a special payment on top of his pension. Addressing the nation, Mr Morsi said his move had not been aimed at individuals.

"The decisions I took today were not meant ever to target certain persons, nor did I intend to embarrass institutions, nor was my aim to narrow freedoms," he said. Instead, Mr Morsi said that his only goal had been the "benefit of this nation and its people".

From now on, added the president, Egypt's armed forces would concentrate "on the holy mission of protecting the nation".

..."Al-Akhbar", a Cairo daily that traditionally reflects military thinking, said the president had won the struggle for power between the Muslim Brotherhood and the army that has defined Egyptian politics since Hosni Mubarak's downfall last year.

"Morsi settles the struggle for power," said the paper's headline. Meanwhile, "Al-Masry Al-Youm", an independent daily, wrote simply: "Morsi ends the political role for the armed forces."

However, Egypt's few liberal, secular voices fear the new concentration of power in the hands of the presidency.

Mohammed ElBaradei, the former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said: "With military stripped of legislative authority and in absence of parliament, president holds imperial powers. Transitional mess continues."

when The Resident gets his teleprompt on this, would you like to bet he praises the move as ....”a democratic step forward in placing the Armed Forces under civilian control....” or some such blather.

Yes, and Obama will chalk this as another success in replacing secular strongmen with transnational Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood. Obama is singlehandedly bringing about the creation of the Greater Caliphate.

“...”The Brothers officially in power,” declared the independent Al-Watan daily, referring to the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist group which backs Morsi and through whose ranks he rose before his election triumph.

However, not all media welcomed the move, in Cairo, the independent daily Al-Shorouk expressed concern over the action, saying it meant that Morsi was accumulating “much bigger prerogatives than those of Mubarak”.
Thousands of Brotherhood supporters flooded Cairo’s Tahrir Square - cradle of the revolution that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak last year - to celebrate on Sunday.”

Obama sure got the Muslim Brotherhood a dictatorship in Egypt fast!

And I should have underlined or boldfaced this part:
Mohammed ElBaradei, the former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said: "With military stripped of legislative authority and in absence of parliament, president holds imperial powers. Transitional mess continues."

Yeah the western media trumpeted that “woman, christian VP” theme.
And who got VP?
From Wiki:
“Mahmoud Mekki is the current Vice President of Egypt. He was appointed by President Mohamed Morsi on 12 August 2012...
Many media reports said that Mahmoud Mekki rejected an offer made by the Muslim Brotherhood to be their presidential candidate in the 2012 Egyptian presidential elections.”

With the President and Vice Presidency firmly in hand, the Muslim Brotherhood only needs to control the rewriting of the Constitution - which Morsi claimed the powers to do today.

Nope, at some point someone will hit the Aswan high dam and 99% of the Egyptian population will cease to exist.

Partisan media shills — bring this up, they’ll remind everyone how “Obama” killed his fellow muzzie Osama.

Muzzie kills muzzie, rare as a four leaf clover, but twice as lucky.
