Paul Ryan's anti-abortion rights record a target for Obama camp
CBS ^ | 8/15/2012 | ByStephanie Condon

To cap off his three-day trip to the key state of Iowa, President Obama on Wednesday will be joined by First Lady Michelle Obama on the campaign trail for the first time in over 3 months, as he continues his effort to appeal to swing-state women voters. In his effort, Mr. Obama has regularly stressed his support for issues like reproductive rights -- an issue that may come more sharply into focus now that Rep. Paul Ryan has joined Mitt Romney on the GOP ticket.

Ryan, the Wisconsin Republican who chairs the House Budget Committee, is primarily known for his very conservative budget plan, but his views on social issues like abortion are just as heartening for conservatives as his economic policies.

"I'm as pro-life as a person gets," Ryan, a Roman Catholic, told the conservative magazine the Weekly Standard in 2010.

Ryan's anti-abortion rights credentials -- unlike Romney's -- are indeed impeccable. The National Right to Life Committee, a nationwide federation opposed to abortion rights, has given Ryan a 100 percent "pro-life" voting record -- in other words, for every vote he's taken on abortion-related issues since joining the House of Representatives in 1999, Ryan has voted on the anti-abortion side.

“The Lame Stream Media’s boss Obama doesn’t want to talk about the economy.”

No kidding, and as well the way things are turning in America today anti-abortion is no longer as vulnerable a target as it was in days of yore. More, and more are turning against abortion, or are sensitive to it by what I’ve been reading the past several years.

>> Ryan’s anti-abortion rights credentials

Hey Stephanie, you into the legal killin’ of nascent life? Yes, it’s killing.

These jackwagons holler “anti-abortion” as if they’re saving something precious.

You know what, Tobyhill? If they continue to jump from issue to issue like this so that they can avoid talking about the economy at some point they will appear to the independent voters to be out-of-touch for ignoring the real problems this nation has.

After they reach that point, the next point will be independent voters realizing exactly what you already know. They are not really ignoring important issues such as the economy but purposely dodging those issues.

This is the point when it will BACKFIRE on them.

I hear gay marriage is going to be the main issue during the Democrat Convention.

So I guess the Obama campaign is going to tout Obama’s support of “post-birth abortions” where the living child, after being removed from womb, is killed.

The left so overestimates how many voters they get from hammering this home. The people worried about defending this “right” already are reliable Dem voters. This is such a back-burner issue for the vast majority of moderates/independents, especially during a bad economy.

I've been saying that we MUST start to ensure the future viability of both Social Security and Medicare.

People laughed at my suggestion, until I clearly pointed out that with the Baby Boom generation (1945-1962) starting to reach retirement age, the demands on both Social Security and Medicare are going to rocket through the roof and then some, and that could bankrupt both systems a lot sooner than people think. Once people understand that, people want measures taken to save both systems, such as the Romney/Ryan plan to allow people under 55 to set up their own "nest egg" accounts for retirement and/or medical bills just about tax-free or tax deferred.

If same-sex marriage is the centerpiece of the Democratic National Convention political plank, the Obama campaign is going to slaughtered in most of “flyover country.”
