Woman burned about hot seat at Cowboys Stadium sues Cowboys and Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys are being put on the hot seat for literally having one.

Jennelle Carrillo, who lives in Cleburne, is suing the Cowboys and team owner Jerry Jones for the third-degree burns she suffered on her buttocks after sitting on a black, marble bench at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium two years ago while waiting for the debut Blue & Silver scrimmage.

Carrillo was hospitalized and had to have skin grafts on her derriere, according to a lawsuit filed in Tarrant County civil court late last week.

"It was hot enough to produce third-degree burns through her clothing that day," said Mike Wash, the Austin attorney representing Carrillo. "She did not stay for the scrimmage. I'm surprised there aren't more reports of burn injuries from sitting on those dark, black benches."

In her lawsuit, Carrillo contends that Cowboys Stadium officials didn't warn her or others about the dangers of sitting on the uncovered bench in the hot summer sun.

"No signs were posted at or near the bench warning that it was too hot to sit on nor was the bench roped off to prevent persons from sitting on it," the lawsuit states.

Wash said he didn't know how long Carrillo sat on the bench, but when she got up to use the restroom, she discovered her burns.

Because of her bench warming experience, Carrillo has suffered mental anguish, physical pain, and disfigurement, according to the suit.

Well, watching the Cowboys implode the last decade has burned my butt too.

Take heart Cowboy fans Kyle Orton is now sporting silver & blue ... you are in capable hands.

Well, it does seem a little strange that the hospital could misdiagnose a third degree burn as first degree, but she was in enough pain to go the hospital. I guess it’s possible, though it seems unlikely.

As for the obesity/diabetes causing the insensitivity to pain, that may be. If she had any sensitivity to pain, the burns would have to be classified as self-inflicted.

As for how hot the bench could have gotten, let me put it this way - white concrete burns my bare feet right now (in Texas) and I have no doubt that if I stood still instead of running when I find myself on it, I could get a real burn.

But, as I posted already, what was everybody else doing? Did nobody say “How can you possibly be sitting on that?!”

In any case, the reality of lawsuits is that it is usually cheaper to settle than to fight. The only question is whether the Cowboys will post warning signs, or just remove the benches.

I'd say a bench like that could easily get to 140 in August

For sure. We had a 100F day here in Indiana, the surface temp on my deck (medium brown stain) was 147F.

And the sun is hotter down there.

Orton’s the best backup we’ve had in years. The problems are on both lines..big trouble there, oh, and Witten has spleen injury and out indefinitely. Will be a long season.

“Does the size of her backside determine her reward?”

If so, and she actually wins this frivolous case, judging by her picture in post #19’s reference, the reward will be gigantic.

Two years ago? Did it take her that long to find a sewer lawyer to take her case?

I’m really worried for Tony Romo’s safety, the Cowboys OL may very well be one of the worst in recent memory...he’s going to be running for his life a lot.

Over and under on Orton's first start I'm setting at week 7.

You want the over or the under?

I guess she couldn’t feel the heat until the fat started to sizzle. She may not have been alerted until the smoke detector went off.

Well, give me the over as Romo still has some magic escapablity (sic) left in him, but at his advancing age wilts at last.

I’m going to sue this womans patents for raising a menace to society! A moron who doesn’t know things get hot in the sun, and then sit there and get fried; is an obvious threat to public safety.
