Obama's Shared Prosperity: A Euphemism Wrapped in a Lie
The American Thinker ^ | August 16, 2012 | Daren Jonescu

Posted on 08/16/2012 12:31:44 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

.....Forced "sharing" is coercion plain and simple. Government-enforced "sharing" is coercion at the point of a gun: "your prosperity or your life."

Go back over the list of implications of "shared prosperity" that I offered a few paragraphs back. This time, each time you see the word "sharing," try substituting "relinquishing at the point of a gun." Now you can see exactly what Obama's "new vision" for America really means. It means that you will no longer own yourself. You will no longer have first claim -- or any meaningful claim, for that matter -- on your goods, your time, the product of your sweat and thought, or the future you planned for yourself and your nearest and dearest.

And rather than thinking what an outrage this entails against you and your natural rights, turn the focus around for a moment. Could you demand that this be done to others, so that you could benefit from their coerced "sharing"? If not, then ask yourself why not. And then ask yourself what kind of people the left is hoping to appeal to, not only during this year's election in America, but always, everywhere.

This is the question any still-human supporter of a leftist party needs to have clarified for him. He must be compelled to see in a clear light just what he is supporting, and to ask himself whether, seen in this light, it is supportable. Leftism is not, and never has been, about "sharing," or "compassion," or any of the other moral euphemisms progressives use to hoodwink the intellectually and morally lazy. It is, and always has been, about that gun pointed at the prosperous -- and, ultimately, at everyone, since in the end, unfettered leftism eliminates prosperity pretty quickly, leaving only the extremely unprosperous to fend for themselves....

......"For these self-appointed social redeemers, the goal—"social justice"—is not about rectifying particular injustices, which would be practical and modest, and therefore conservative. Their crusade is about rectifying injustice in the very order of things. "Social Justice" for them is about a world reborn, a world in which prejudice and violence are absent, in which everyone is equal and equally advantaged and without fundamentally conflicting desires. It is a world that could only come into being through a re-structuring of human nature and of society itself.

......."The Third Way" is a familiar term from the lexicon of the left with a long and dishonorable pedigree in the catastrophes created by messianic socialists in the 20th Century. It is the most ornate panel in the tapestry of deception I described at the beginning of this essay.

In the 1930s, Nazis used "The Third Way" to characterize their own brand of national socialism as a equidistant between the "internationalist" socialism of the Soviet Union and the capitalism of the West. Trotskyists used "The Third Way" as a term to distinguish their own Marxism from Stalinism and capitalism. In the 1960s, New Leftists used "The Third Way" to define their politics as an independent socialism between the Soviet gulag and America's democracy.

But as the history of Nazism, Trotskyism and the New Left have shown, there is no "Third Way." There is the capitalist, democratic way based on private property and individual rights—a way that leads to liberty and universal opportunity. And there is the socialist way of group identities, group rights, a relentless expansion of the political state, restricted liberty and diminished opportunity. The Third Way is not a path to the future. It is just the suspension between these two destinations. It is a bad faith attempt on the part of people who are incapable of giving up their socialist schemes to escape the taint of their discredited past.

..... Their cynicism flows from the very perception they have of right and wrong. They do it for higher ends. They do it for the progressive faith. They do it because they see themselves as having the power to redeem the world from evil. It is that terrifyingly exalted ambition that fuels their spiritual arrogance and justifies their sordid and, if necessary, criminal means.

And that is why they hate conservatives. They hate you because you are killers of their dream. Because you are defenders of a Constitution that thwarts their cause. They hate you because your "reactionary" commitment to individual rights, to a single standard and to a neutral and limited state obstructs their progressive designs. They hate you because you are believers in property and its rights as the cornerstones of prosperity and human freedom; because you do not see the market economy as a mere instrument for acquiring personal wealth and political war chests, to be overcome in the end by bureaucratic schemes.

Conservatives who think progressives are misinformed idealists will forever be blind-sided by the malice of the left—by the cynicism of those who pride themselves on principle, by the viciousness of those who champion sensitivity, by the intolerance of those who call themselves liberal, and by the ruthless disregard for the well-being of the downtrodden by those who preen themselves as social saints."...... Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850) wrote that this sort of policy is organized theft. There is no better word for it.

This morning, as I drove to work, there was another of those breathless liberal stories describing a "study" by a so-called think tank that found several companies who paid more to their CEOs than they did to the IRS. My reaction was "SO FREAKIN' WHAT?" It was literally not the business of the non-thinking tank members what the income of those CEOs is. If you do not own stock in the company, keep your pie hole shut!

I heard that story - but, I heard it reported that the company received a tax REFUND of an amount greater than the CEO compensation.

It was not mentioned that a refund is on an OVERPAYMENT of taxes.

There is so much ignorance and stupidity abroad. Combine that with deliberate deception and we are in a tight spot.

Such “Conservatives” are cowards or self-deceiving, but certainly not that naive.

That would be a good photo to use to “caption what Washington is saying” ...

George Washington : “Behold, the power of sleeze.”

As a Conservative Libertarian, my definition of a Conservative hero would probably piss off 90% of the population.

The liberals I know and have talked to get really uncomfortable and irritated when you state the truth that everything they want the government to do,

they are authorizing killing, by the government, anyone that doesn’t comply.

When I walk them down the scenario of someone that won’t comply and an armed agent of the government shows up to take their property or liberty, and then their lives when they resist the taking of their property or liberty,

they usually say “it didn’t have to get to that point, you could have surrendered at any point and avoided that”. Well, isn’t that the point? I’m not complying. Why didn’t the gov’t “surrender” and stop trying to make me comply?

This truth really harshes their “feel good about myself as a good person for advocating government policy to help people” buzz.

Obama policies = no prosperity to share.

To the right that's a bug but to the left that's a feature. Most leftists would be content to take none of your stuff just as long as you don't have any stuff worth taking. Leftism is the politics of envy. The envious falsely believe destroying is somehow more virtuous than stealing.
