A group of pro-immigrant activists in Chicago on Tuesday released an informational video warning about the possible dangers of deferred action, which on Wednesday will begin to register undocumented young people who want to try and postpone deportation.
The video, Defer the Bullst, may be seen online at www.moratoriumondeportations.org and is an effort to resist the governments alleged disinformation campaign about the program.
While some youth may have a chance at relief, Deferred Action is at best insufficient, and at worst misleading, dangerous and deliberately deceptive, said Jose Herrera of the Moratorium on Deportations Campaign on Tuesday.
Some 20 members of various groups gathered in front of Barack Obamas campaign headquarters in Chicago to denounce the president for using immigrants as guinea pigs for his own political gains.
The activists also criticized Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, who on Wednesday in Chicago will hold a huge registration drive for youths hoping to take advantage of deferred action to postpone deportation.
Herrera said that in the promotional activities for the event the possible - that is, non-guaranteed - postponement of deportations in accord with deferred action is erroneously linked with the DREAM Act, which remains stalled in Congress.
The deferred action policy is not a law, it does not have the protection of a law, he said.
According to the activists, the documents released by the Department of Homeland Security clearly state that even young people who fulfill the requirements for deferred action can be rejected and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation, at the discretion of the government.
ICIRR said that at its event on Wednesday, which will be attended by Gutierrez, Sen. Richard Durbin and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, undocumented youths will be encouraged to request deferred action but also to seek legal assistance regarding their own particular immigration situation.
Meanwhile, Gutierrezs press spokesman, Douglas Rivlin, said that the congressman wants young people to attend the event to sign up for deferred action and to consult experts about it.
The deferred action program is open to undocumented immigrants 30 years old and younger who were brought to the United States before the age of 16.
Applicants will need five years of continuous residence in the country, a high school diploma or GED, and proof of current or previous military service or college enrollment.
Those seeking deferred action will also have to submit fingerprints and other biometric data and undergo an extensive background check, as well as pay a fee of $465.
Unintended consequences?? Well, whatever it takes to tick them off at Obama.

YEP!
Ping ‘em, please.
Amazing. For a given person to emigrate to any of say 25 nations that one might conceivably want to emigrate to, the potential emigree typically needs $200K of liquid assets they are willing to bring with them, some sort of sponsorship in terms of family they will stay with, or some kind of written job offer, or all those things.
These folks, they have to pay $500 to get into the greatest country in the history of mankind and out of some of crappiest dead-end POS countries on earth and they’re bitching and moaning about it. To me, this is really rubbing salt in the wound of having scoffed at our system of laws in the first place. What a pain in the a**.
I predict these will make simply wonderful, exemplary citizens. Errr, not citizens; voters. Hospital patients. Demanders of free everything.
AND could still be deported after Obama leaves office even if they are accepted by the Obama immigration department to stay. Legally they are still (immigration) lawbreakers and signing up here is an admission of it.
Now a anti-Obama political group could have some fun with this running commercials in Hispanic areas warning illegals that this is a trap Obama is setting for Hispanics.
Here in Maryland obama's buddy O Malley proposed a special drivers licence for illegals that couldnt be used as a Federal ID to get around the Real ID law to let illegals drive legally here . It's pretty funny if you think about it, a special ID for illegals.
And another thing..
The agency in charge of processing/approving these aliens is USCIS. The most dysfunctional outfit EVER. They will either lose the apps or rubber stamp them all.
“A Day in the Life of USCIS”- (Is this any way to protect our nation?)
Letter from Mike Cutler, former INS agent who testifies before congress and appears on various news programs:
I just came across the item I have attached below when I reviewed the latest edition of USCIS Today. The date of this edition was April 6, 2006. Clearly the folks who work for USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) the division of the Department of Homeland Security that adjudicates applications for a wide array of immigration benefits have their work cut out for them.
Last month the GAO issued a report of their findings concerning the critical issue of immigration benefit fraud. While the use of the term “critical” has been used often to describe a variety of issues of varying significance, it is entirely appropriate to consider immigration benefit fraud to indeed, be a critical issue. It is through benefit fraud that two-thirds of the terrorists who have been identified as operating within our nation up to the attacks of September 11, 2001 utilized immigration benefit fraud to either enter the United States or embed themselves in the United States so that they could hide in plain sight as they prepared to attempt to attack our nation and our people. The GAO report can be found at: http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d06259.pdf
The document shows just how much work is being done at this point in time, prior to the implementation of any guest worker amnesty program. There is still a significant backlog and with the pressure on to process as many applications as possible, quality control is the casualty of this process at USCIS. There is no way that the beleaguered employees of USCIS can deal with a guest worker amnesty program that would result in millions upon millions of additional applications being dumped into the over worked system [snip]

Some of the DAILY work of USIS according to their own document:
* Conduct 135,000 national security background checks
* process 30,000 applications for immigrant benefits
* Issue 7,000 permanent resident cards (green cards -PER DAY)
* Welcome 2100 new citizens.
* Welcome 3500 new permanent residents.

To Quote Ronald Reagan, “The nine most dangerous words in the United States are “I’m from the Government and I’m here to help!””.
This move could backfire on the President. The people affected are likely to realize that to take advantage of the deferral (essentially a grace period during which they won’t be deported), they have to “out” themselves to agents of the federal government.
And they are to do this with no guarantee that hey will actually get a deferral, or that in January 2013 the deferrals won’t be reversed by another Executive Order (leaving the federal government with both their names and the obligation to deport them).
When our Hispanic citizens figure out what a thin reed President Obama has extended to young illegals, they could become cynical enough to withhold electoral support, or even switch their support to Romney if Romney finds some way to rationally address the issue. After all, President Obama could have attempted to pass a law granting these illegals citizenship when he had full control of Congress, but he didn’t do that.
Instead, he’s now pandering for the Hispanic vote by asking young illegals to reveal themselves to the government, but he has no way to assure them that they won’t be putting themselves at risk of eventual deportation, since he chose the route of going with an Executive Order, rather than doing it by law.
Romney’s got to be careful here, but he could state that he would seek citizenship for a certain subset of the people affected and would ask Congress to pass a law to that effect if elected, and then point out that Obama never took that route. He could also ask them to delay coming out until the law was passed so that they could be certain that they wouldn’t instead be deported.
If the law failed to pass, or if certain individuals weren’t covered by it, they could remain in their current status of being illegal, but here nonetheless. They might appreciate Romney addressing their plight, a plight caused directly by Obama’s Executive Order.
“To me, this is really rubbing salt in the wound of having scoffed at our system of laws in the first place. “
And by golly, if Obama can do it, so can Jerry Brown! We have NO representation! But illegal aliens do!
Today, in the Oakland Tribune
California will issue driver’s licenses to hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants once the Obama administration grants them work permits, the state Department of Motor Vehicles says.
The state’s decision is the opposite from Arizona’s, where Republican Gov. Jan Brewer on Wednesday afternoon signed an executive order outlawing driver’s licenses for anyone who benefits from the new federal deportation relief.
One legislator said most Californians oppose licensing illegal immigrants and predicted renewed debate over the issue.
The Obama administration left it up to the states to decide if they will issue driver’s licenses to the young people brought to the country illegally as children but now eligible for temporary work permits.
Wife & I went to drop off some mail at the post office on the way to Wal-Mart around 1 pm. Coming out of the alley behind the fire dept downtown, catty corner across the street sits a very big Dpt. of Homeland Security bus. Now, our little town is having an annual festival this weekend, with carnival rides littering a couple intersections, and this bus sits in a lot adjacent to the rides.
I don’t see what it would have to do with the carnival, but I wonder if they plan to take applications for amnesty from our local immigrants, using the carnival weekend as a draw. Hmmmmmmmm.
Whatever the ramifications of this illegal move by Obama, one thing is for sure....USCIS will make a giant fiasco out of it!
GAO Report Indicates Up to 30,000 Citizenship Applications Processed Without Consulation of Important Background Materials
Tuesday, November 28, 2006 Senators Chuck Grassley and Susan Collins today released a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report that says 111,000 alien files (A-files) were missing in 14 United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices. The report also says that as many as 30,000 immigrants applications to become U.S. citizens were processed despite the missing files. USCIS is responsible for processing noncitizens applications to live or work in the U.S., either permanently or on a temporary basis, or to become a U.S. citizen..snip
>>Now a anti-Obama political group could have some fun with this running commercials in Hispanic areas warning illegals that this is a trap Obama is setting for Hispanics.<<
Why not? You know the Dems would run an ad if the shoe were on the other foot, even if it were a complete falsehood. (See Medicare ads for examples.)
And this one has the added element that it could even be true. It could be a trap. Would any thinking person give their name to the federal government as an illegal, without a guarantee of citizenship? This is just a deferred deportment, emphasis on “deferred,” with an even bigger emphasis on “DEPORTMENT.”
Romney, himself, or Ryan, could cut an ad warning Hispanic families here legally to advise the illegal youngsters among their numbers to not take a chance on the deferral working out. He could promise that he would, instead, call for a law to be passed when he’s elected, a law that would provide them a clear path to citizenship without having to risk deportment, something that Obama has blatantly failed to do during his term of office, even when he had clear majorities of both houses of Congress.
I honestly think there’s hay to be made here, and that this entire pandering exercise could backfire on Obama if it’s handled right by Romney, Ryan, and the GOP.
In the meantime, an unrelated SuperPac cut the warning ad. Can’t hurt. Might even help the GOP if it’s done right.

Hispandering backfiring? Popcorn and soda anyone?
I am saying that an anti-Obama independent group do this, The Republicans doing this could backfire on them.

I definitely don't like that idea.
Romney was the most anti-amnesty candidate in the primary, Him flipping that big now would keep many Republicans home on election day.
I still want some talking head to bring this up about Harry Reid!
Harry Reid: illegal aliens free loaders and scam artists
OH! THE IRONY!
...
Reid, now an impassioned champion of amnesty for 20 million illegal aliens in America, once called illegal aliens free loaders and scam artists which he proposed to deal with in his Immigration Stabilization Act in the United States Senate in 1993.
That proposed legislation was introduced to the floor of the US Senate with the following press release, in part, issued by Reids office on August 5, 1993.
In response to increased terrorism and abuse of social programs by aliens, (I) today introduced the first and only comprehensive immigration reform bill in Congress. Currently, an alien living illegally in the United States often pays no taxes but receives unemployment, welfare, free medical care, and other federal benefits. Recent terrorist acts, including the World Trade Center bombing, have underscored the need to keep violent criminals out of the country.

“I dont see what it would have to do with the carnival, but I wonder if they plan to take applications for amnesty from our local immigrants, using the carnival weekend as a draw. Hmmmmmmmm.”
You’re likely correct. Here in So. Oregon, they use any event, excuse to drag out the bus that hands out Mexican Matricular cards.
And directly from there, using Motor Voter Laws, to being voters. (I know I didn’t have to mention that)
It's up to the Federal government to enforce RealID.
Documentation required before issuing a license or ID cardBefore a card can be issued, the applicant must provide the following documentation:[20]
A photo ID, or a non-photo ID that includes full legal name and birthdate.
Documentation of birth date.
Documentation of legal status and Social Security number
Documentation showing name and principal residence address.
Digital images of each identity document will be stored in each state DMV database
REAL ID Act
“And directly from there, using Motor Voter Laws, to being voters. (I know I didnt have to mention that)”
Keep mentioning it, sooner or later someone might listen!
“It’s up to the Federal government to enforce RealID.”
ROFLMBO!
>>I am saying that an anti-Obama independent group do this, The Republicans doing this could backfire on them.<<
That’s a reasonable suggestion, although the group doing so would likely be tagged as a aligned with the GOP anyway.
>>Romney was the most anti-amnesty candidate in the primary, Him flipping that big now would keep many Republicans home on election day.<<
I agree that this would be very risky, for the reason you state. And it’s probably not necessary pre-election. However, I do think the way to make inroads on the Hispanic vote is to find a reasonable compromise on how to deal with the long-term illegals, especially those brought here while very young, and to combine that compromise with the passing of a law that strictly enforces our national borders.
Obama failed to do that, as did Bush and everyone before him for that matter, but demographics argue that the GOP has to eventually make inroads into the Hispanic vote, or risk obsolescence as a party. A principled approach to a compromise might be a decent start.
” I am saying that an anti-Obama independent group do this, The Republicans doing this could backfire on them.”
Agreed.
yes and then let them vote with that ID
Thanks sickoflibs.
Those brought here illegally when young pose a serious challenge I agree with you 100%. On one hand it is almost impossible to convince people that it is their fault that they are here. But on the other hand allowing them to legally get taxpayer benefits and voting is a recipe for disaster.
Amnesty to the extent that it brings some voters to the GOP will be very short lived because those coming here illegally even as children are setup to vote for government benefits and regulations over tax cuts, and Democrats will always outbid Republicans on handouts.
Look at GWB policies. Sure he raised the Hispanic vote by maybe 20% but longer term those policies were a disaster and those Hispanics went overwhelmingly Democrat in 2006 and 2008.
Specifically I mean the Bush affordable housing programs that got Hispanics with bad credit Home loans but in the end they lost those homes and turned areas of FL, NV, AZ, NM into economic toxic areas.
How about Republicans propose a Federal law that makes it a Felony to bring a minor into this country illegally? That way the adult ilegals become the bad guy, not us. That is what GWB should have been doing instead of destroying his party with amnesty votes and affordable housing loans.
I don’t think the dummies have thought of the fact they are all registering their illegal status (and criminal histories) in the US under Obammy’s illegal scam.
Well, at least we will know who they are and where to find them if ever the rule of law returns to the Nation.
Several Republican reps in the California state house were saying they couldn’t remember a department head like the head of the DMV announcing state policy like this before.
Brown was in cricket mode, and all of a sudden you’ve go the DMV announcing a new policy.
The place stinks worse every damn day.
or require assimilation??? ooops that would require a history lesson taught in English...
Just in time to sign them up as Democrat voters.
Regarding those illegals who were brought here when very young, you agree that “it is almost impossible to convince people that it is their fault that they are here.” And there’s an excellent reason that it’s impossible; it simply wasn’t their fault.
Yet, at the end you propose a solution: “...a Federal law that makes it a Felony to bring a minor into this country illegally?”
While your solution might help with today’s border control, it doesn’t address the illegals who were brought here as children and have grown up here.
The GOP needs to do what Obama has tried, but failed, to do. Come up with a reasonable answer to this issue, but unlike Obama, we should put it into law and make it clear that we are doing so to protect that group from a subsequent change in policy by another President. Obama’s move just protects them temporarily, while getting their names on the federal books in the process.
Illegals signing up for his program should feel about it very much the same as we feel about a gun registry. It can come back to bite you in the butt someday.
If you’re sincere about your position that it’s impossible to assign them fault (politically impossible, not logically impossible) then the next step is to put a rational response together. The GOP needs to do that, and then contrast that response with Obama’s risky ad hoc solution.
My point remains. This move could backfire on Obama if the GOP handles it right.
It is one thing to not assign them personal guilt, it is another thing to demand ‘compassionate’ (sound familiar??) federal laws that are self destruction to this nation.
Do we continue to overwhelm this nation in debt by adding millions of illegals to the generous free stuff rolls?
Do we continue to turn this nation into a Democratic welfare ‘ Mommy runs our lives’ state by adding millions of illegals to the voting rolls to vote for ‘free stuff’?
How about high unemployment and adding new competition for jobs?
These are serious questions that the amnesty crowd never addressed and will not address. How about organizing your thoughts and writing a vanity under blogs on the subject that addresses these? seriously. I do that from time to time.
RE :”While your solution might help with todays border control, it doesnt address the illegals who were brought here as children and have grown up here.”
It does show how the amnesty wing of the Republican party was clueless and played right into Democrats hands.
Good. The more ways we can get them to self identify the easier it is to send em home. If they are that bright and promising, let them go home and clean up their own sewer. I have treated plenty of illegals in my hospital. They know they will never get a bill, but rather than being grateful they are some of the most entitled demanding folks you could meet. On family had over a million dollars of free care, yet had daily scheduled meetings with administration to go over their complaints. Never heard so much as a thank you though I personally gave tens of thousands of dollars of free care.....
