Aiken is not too bright. He had this thing sewn up.
Are you insane? This election is not about abortion, women’s rights or anything else the liberals want it to be. Its about the economy, jobs, national security/identity. His opponent is one who has destroyed the economy. So NO!
A quick “I mispoke” will take care of it.
Just don’t let it be ‘Maccaca’d’ by the media.
What is the law on this in MO???
The last time this happened was in NJ, some years ago, when a Dem candidate got irreparably tarnished, and the Dem Party got the courts to set aside a state law so that they could substitue a ‘ringer’ (Lautenberg) to save the election...
But I doubt that Pubbies have that option/luxury....
did he mean rape-rape?
You’re an idiot. Jeez, sometimes I want to withdraw from life because of people like you. Put your big boy pants on and grow up.
Couldn’t agree more. not only was it an horrific comment, he now has handed the seat to the Dems. he is done.
Why on EARTH would the Mo Tea Party nominate someone this flat out stupid?? There are some wonderful, intelligent Tea Partiers in this nation and they picked him?
Even I’d vote for his opponent after this and I’ve never voted Dem in my life. This isn’t just bad, this is horrible. I prosecuted more rape cases than I can count. This fool has no place representing anyone for ANYTHING.
I suppose you are voting for Obama butt girl (the incumbent democRAT?)
I agree. If this is still exploding in the press a week from now and tarring the rest of the Republican Senate candidates and the national ticket, this guy has to go. The problem is he is the “legitimate” winner of the Republican primary and no one can force him to step down.Unless they quietly offer him a job in prospective Romney administration to get him out of there...
He should, but he won’t. His self interest will get the best of him. If he bows out, he admits his own stupidity and will never have a political career again. If he stays in the race, he has more of a chance to win than no chance.
Might as well support him, get beyond the gaffe an onto the issues. Or perhaps, someone can give him several millions and a villa in St. Bart’s and he might get out.
It might not help. Does the name Jack Ryan ring a bell?
He’s dead, Jim. I guess we just lost Arkansas!!! scratch one for the senate.
I’d agree it would be better if Aiken went away. Not sure at this point it will matter. McCaskill probably just got herself 6 more years and our goal of taking back the US Senate just became all the more difficult.
To remind folks, Akin did NOT say what Claytie Williams did in Texas. Williams said (albeit jokingly in comparing rape to inclement TX weather), “If it’s inevitable, just relax and enjoy it.”
If you want to fire this guy over a 38 second sound bite, you’re going to fire anyone over anything.
Not standing up for him would signal to the Demonrats that we are pansies who will fold like a cheap suit over any screaming accusation.
Dana Loesch, a woman, said it best when she said Akin failed a sound bite, whereas McCaskill failed us on the economy over six years. McCaskill’s actions are far, far worse.
We need to get a spine, not a noodly back.
That being said, only the media is concerned with Todd Aiken's view on abortion not the voters.
“What he said, in essence, when asked about abortion, was that a “legitimate rape” rarely causes pregnancy.”
Clearly what he was trying to say was “forcible rape”. There are different kinds of rape... Sex between an 18 Y.O. and a 17 Y.O. may very well be rape, but it’s most often not a crime of violence. And abortion is not the appropriate answer.
I don’t know if he can talk his way out of this or not though. Depends on how good a politician he is...
I would like to see him withdraw.
Missouri is a race we had in the bag until his stupid comment.
Missourians should have listened to Sarah.
