A French Jewish mother at the centre of a high profile custody battle with a Saudi prince has died after falling from a fourth storey apartment, amid suspicions of foul play.
Police are still investigating what caused the death of Candice Cohen-Ahnine, 35, who fell from her Paris apartment window on Thursday night.
Investigators reportedly had been leaning towards an accident as cause of death, but by Sunday reports in the French media suggested Ms Cohen-Ahnine had slipped and fallen to her death "as if she was escaping something dangerous".
Police refused to confirm the reports when contacted by The Daily Telegraph.
Ms Cohen-Ahnine's lawyer, Laurence Tarquiny-Charpentier, said the death "seemed to be some sort of accident," and did not know whether foul play was involved. She said witnesses had been at the scene of the crime, and more information about the circumstances of the death is expected Monday.
"What I can tell you is that it wasn't a suicide," Ms Tarquiny-Charpentier said .

Doesn’t the surname “Cohen” mean that she was in the line of Aaron? Why would a Jewess of priestly line marry a Saudi prince?
I remember my social studies teacher in middle school showing this to the class. She saw it as a lesson on other cultures, including modern day suppression of women’s rights. While she was a liberal in many areas, “Not Without My Daughter” was one of her few class movies that was actually educational and a good thing to show kids.

Back in the 1990s I worked at IBM in the DFW area. One of the women who worked in the credit union had married a Jordanian Muslim in the late 1980s and had several children. Everything was hunky-dory while they were living in Texas, but then the husband took them all back to Jordan on the pretext of letting his parents meet their grandchildren. Once there, everything changed. He decided that they wouldn’t return to the US, and under Jordanian (Muslim) law the children belonged to the father. He moved the family in with his parents and he and his mother began mistreating the wife. She eventually left and returned to the US without the children. Somewhat later she returned with a plan and was able to smuggle the kids over into Israel and then back to the US where she filed for divorce and sole custody. She went through a very difficult and painful time that could all have been avoided had she chosen a mate more carefully.
Any girl foolish enough to marry a Muslim should take heed.
